I enjoyed watching the highlights, but I had to do it on mute.

Seriously, who in the hell put that craptastic music on it?

The glory of the computer...

mute the player (click on the image of the speaker to the immediate left of the volume slider, or turn slide the volume down) and play your own music through another player.

I have no problem with Queen, but the second time through – yes I watched it twice – I put on some music of my own… scanned my library for a 6:37 long song like a true nerd.

Honestly

That is the most Cassel highlights I’ve seen at once. The thing that sticks out to me is that a lot of the time the receivers are covered pretty well and he has to make really good throws to get it in there. When the receivers aren’t covered, he seems to hit them in stride a lot so they can cut loose and run. I think he will make our receivers look better this year.

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

by Zodeman on Jul 14, 2009 7:34 PM CDT reply actions

I've always liked how his throws appear as extended handoffs.

They also seem natural mechanically, as though the precision is intentional, yet not forced.

Yes

He shows a lot of touch in putting the ball where it needs to be and catch able too. Too many guys just fire it all the time. I’m more impressed with him now. And that touch bodes well for running backs to get those extended handoffs and make some nice gains. OMG…is it gametime yet?

The thing that stuck out to me was...

Matt Cassell had plenty of time to throw the ball because his offensive line knows how to block. I also noticed that he was pretty durable breaking a few tackles, and taking it on into the endzone(not afraid to take the hit to score).

I also noticed that he had decent passes… some of them weren’t the best, but they were catchable.

by ravenhawk on Jul 14, 2009 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually, the Pats O-Line was pretty bad last year

Cassel was sacked 47 times.

Bones was sacked 26 times.

Cassel isn’t that much worse at scrambling than Bones, but the Pats O-Line was a season long replay of their Super Bowl XLII performance.

by DThomasReigns on Jul 14, 2009 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually

Those numbers dont prove who had the best o-line, they prove who the best scrambler was, and that’s Bones. M.Cassel got sacked that many times because he hold’s onto the ball to long. T.Thigpen got sacked that many time’s because he had no one open and the o-line sucked. Bones is by far the better scrambler of the two. If Cassel had been the Chiefs QB last year his sack numbers would have been alot higher than 47 sacks.

by CPT.Caveman on Jul 15, 2009 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions

He had time on some plays

And on some plays he was hurried and scrambled and still made a good pass. And he can run if necessary.

by Zodeman on Jul 14, 2009 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions

More Importantly, he knows when to run

Instead of tucking it at the first sign of his #1 option being covered, he runs through the progression THEN takes off if there is nothing there.

Not only that, but he has pretty good footwork in the pocket, often sliding in the pocket to avoid pressure.

I could get more sacks with my sack

I'm not a classic rock guy, but even if I were, I have a hard time envisioning myself choosing that for the reel.

True.

I am not trying to knock classic rock (even though I don’t like it), but if I had to choose a classic rock song it definitely would not have been the one in the vid.

I'm sorry

But I just have to say this. It is what it is and at the end of the day you either like it or you don’t. (And I said BOTH, so don’t ban me:-)

Yeeeefuckinghaaaaaw

Man is a play-maker FO SHO! Any stats on how many times he scrambled for a first down? How about how many times he plowed into the D instead of sliding (please slide dude, please)?

This is an awesome way to start the day, Queen or no. Thank you Chris!

Thanks for not posting a youtube video btw as it is still blocked along with facebook in china…. (dicks)

too bad Moss and Welker were not coming along with him

That highlight reel wont look nearly sooo good throwing to Bowe and Engram. Also agree that this music blows

by bonesjackson on Jul 14, 2009 9:07 PM CDT reply actions

Moss & Welker

…are part of a good system. I believe that Chan and Haley will install an offensive system that makes our guys look like studs too.

Let us not forget that the vaunted Randy Moss did jack !@#$ in Oakland. The only reason he shines is because he’s well coached, and New England has won often enough to keep him from torching the locker room.

by GonzosDirtyTrailer on Jul 14, 2009 9:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe not quite as good but still...

Bowe will be much different from here out with Cassel throwing the ball and Haley as our coach. Engram wont be here for long but, Mark Bradley has never been part of an offense like we are getting ready to have either. Cassel, Haley, and Gailey will make Bradley look like a stud.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Jul 14, 2009 9:25 PM CDT reply actions

Looks like we paid for...

Niftiness in the pocket.
The ability to scramble when necessary – and often find the yellow line.
Passer who looks comfortable.
Ability to throw in the snow.
A good slide.
I would say accuracy, but we are just watching the “highlights.”
Receivers that helped his stats with good YAC.
Colquitt’s back-up.

Hey...wouldn't it be funny if....

some new safety on the Patriots put a freak hit on Cassel and just completely wrecked his career.

Oh...and on the Queen song...

I thought it was going to be “we are the champions” or something. I am getting pretty tired of that song associated with football. Its a great song but its been overplayed like six hundred gazilion times. Hell we even used to play it when I played for Rockhurst back in 87-91. That was a while ago.

But this was a different Queen song. Not oft played. I think it was a nice selection. Oh, and Queen is about 1000 times better than any of the craptastic bands you kids listen to today. Stick glow stick where the sun doesn’t shine. haha.

by MasterBlaster7 on Jul 14, 2009 11:16 PM CDT reply actions

I remember

When that Queen album came out while I was in college. We Will Rock You was so incredible. I loved the hell out of it for quite awhile. The first 10,000 times I heard it was great, but it’s been losing it’s luster for about 25 years now.

Rockhurst HS?

If so, you were part of one of the state teams, right? I went there during the great runs of the late 90s…

by Joel Thorman on Jul 15, 2009 7:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Hey Master..

you played ball for Rockhurst at the same time I played at Fort Osage. We probably faced each other on the gridiron a time or two.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

by kcchiefsfan72 on Jul 15, 2009 11:39 AM CDT up reply actions

what i don't like about this video....

…is that the wr’s are the ones that make a lot of these please.

What i do like, is those plays are made b/c the ball is only where the wr can get it. If he keeps the turnovers down to a minimum he can still be productive with our, so called, weak receiving corp.

by xfatdannx on Jul 15, 2009 1:25 AM CDT reply actions

worth every penny

I honestly didn’t watch hardly anything he did last year apart from the KC game. So I watched this mofo twice to try to take it all in.

1. He’s faster than I thought he was – he can skedaddle near Bones-speed I presume.
2. He has no problem chucking the long ball. His down-field precision looked pretty good too. Of course this is a highlight reel, we don’t see the duds.
3. His wind up/step is average but his release is effing quick. I can’t tell who it reminds me of though – I thought it was Favresque, but I scouted some of his highlights and it was inconclusive.
4. His arm strength is better than I thought… at least better than I thought was advertised.
5. Holy chodes, this guy is pretty damn good!

If we can afford him a modicum of protection I think he’s going to blow some minds this year – to the tune of a Pro Bowl appearance (or at least an alternate). Combine his ability with his apparent work ethic and character – I’m friggin giddy that we locked him up for 6. I don’t think we’ve overpaid. I think we’ve found Trent Green 2.0 without the injury history and several years younger… new and improved.

This off-season is going to haunt Denver for years… I say YEARS!

by Ochophosphate on Jul 15, 2009 2:27 AM CDT reply actions

Pretty exciting shit!!!

I have been stoked about the Cassel signing but, watching the reel does open my eyes a little.
He seems to have the cerebral quality of Tom Brady but looks much different playing the game. More physical maybe?
He seems to excel at buying time with his feet and finding guys downfield. His accuracy on the deep patterns is outstanding and he seems to have the killer instinct that it will take to win games at the end.
DAMN!!! IS IT FOOTBALL SEASON YET!!!

Wow.

That was simply beautiful. It brought back memories of me almost puking from nerves before Matt Cassel’s first start in New York. And of my offseason obsession of where he would land in 2009. And of me coming over to one of the greatest fan bases in all of fooball. :-)

Great to have you NE!!!

I have to say, I have enjoyed most of what you NE guys have had to say this offseason. I have a new appreciation for the Pats fanbase since our teams have become somewhat intertwined.
Next time we play you, it will be in an AFC Championship game. GO CHIEFS!!!

Beautiful Touch!

He has got a helluva touch pass. I love the way he passes the ball. His mechanics are remarkable and footwork looks spectacular. As you’ve all already pointed out, it’s a highlight reel, but I am stoked. Signing Cassel just put me over the top. I cannot wait for the damn season to hurry up and start and I literally feed off this website. You guys rock and this season is going to be the start of a new dominance in the AFC West. Go Chiefs!! By the way, nice punt too. That’s better than ones most of the punters in the league get paid to make on the daily…

That last game was in 60-70 mph winds (that's Buffalo there)

The outside pass to Welker was against the gusting wind. Welker had no one on him, because who the heck is going to throw into that? Um, Cassel. It was a great pick up.

The punt was with the wind at his back and they pinned them inside the 5. Buffalo never recovered from that.

Thanks for the highlights, bring on the games!

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.
