Some Love for Thiggy
"Had the Chiefs not gone out and signed Cassel, I'd be fine with Thigpen as the club's starter. I don't know how much you win with him, but I do know he can make things happen"

Good read

My crystal ball says that the Chiefs will not be drafting Aaron Curry. Their record at the end of 2009 will be 10-6. After witnessing the 2009 draft, their record will be 8-8.
this should be a real strength for the 09 Chiefs
QB depth is hard to come by.
I’m glad that Thigpen is backing up Cassel. Let’s just hope both of them don’t get hurt!
That is a pretty good assessment IMO.
I hope Cassel doesn’t go down for any reason this year because I think he is our best option but, if he does, Thiggy can get it done.
The one issue I had with Thiggy was...
… who would play behind him that didn’t require a total scheme change? Answer: Cassel.
As soon as Cassel’s name came up, I started looking at his games, and saw this tough, mobile QB, who could pull it down and make the first with his feet, if he had to – and stay healthy!
I thought what a great fit! Whoever gets the #1 position, and most seem to think it’ll be Cassel, both players will be able to operate the same offense. To me, that’s huge. Cassel brings a better pure passer to the field, and Thigpen brings more shake-n-bake to the field, but their similarities are greater (imo) than their differences.
If the upgraded o-line continues to struggle this season, Thiggy STILL might be the better QB to keep plays alive move the chains, and avoid the sack.
Overall, Cassel’s had better ball placement, but he enjoyed more open receivers, too. One of the things Thiggy seems to do is play keep-away from the defender. The ball might be tough for the WR to catch, but Thiggy seemed to have a knack for at least giving his guy a chance, while keeping it away from the defender. Webb was notable in this regard, with his alligator-arm technique.
You touched on something I thought as well
They are NOT that different in the kind of offenses they did and can run. Cassel is more of a prototypical QB size-wise, but other than that they’re not too far apart. I think Thigpen is more mobile that Cassel, and that may be due to him being a bit smaller.
But when it boils down to it, Cassel played the same style offense in New England that Kansas City played last season.

Agreed but, there are a couple differences that really separate these two.
Yes, the NE system was very similar but, I have to go back to Cassels mechanics and accuracy, especially on the deeper patterns. Cassel has a huge advantage over Thigpen in that dept.
Thiggy has a great opportunity to learn how to become a great QB in this league but, to be honest, I hope Cassel really separates himself this season and stays healthy.
I look forward to seeing what Thiggy can do in the future but, hopefully not in the too near future.

Cassel threw a prettier ball last season.
Thigpen looked like he had Garcia upside more than Montana upside. Be nice to see Thigpen do somethin’ prettier with the extra time his feet buy him. With Cassel and Thigpen both on the roster, this should be a fun team to watch on offense. Cassel as #1 will likely be able to get more receivers involved.
