A Thought on Posting

Obviously, I have posted a few thoughts here before. I have come to realize a Post is like producing any other type of Entertainment. Production value counts as much or more so than the actual Idea to be presented. But, A bad idea is still a Bad Idea.

Foremost would be a Thought that is Unique, not necessarily new but different in perspective. Every single one of us looks at the World through different Eyes and Experiences. A bad Post is few comments, a worse Post is getting Slammed. A great Post is timely, accurate, and Humble. Every Post ever written here was because someone wanted to Entertain, Inform, and/or Be a part of the AP community. If I might add, Chris and Primetime07 realize that Chiefs first and then we all want to be GUYS and some girls sneak in to the HE-Man Raiders Haters Club.

Presentation is how you look to others when you Post, Some are very polished, yet lack something. Others are quite Raw and yet have that Uniqueness that we want to read. Others are just for fun and sometimes offend some readers. The second rule of Writing IMO, is to write to your reader. Don't belittle, or minimize any of the possible readers of your post! You have NO impact if they find a flaw in your arguement in the 2nd sentence. They won't
continue in most cases to read if you Step right in their Pet Peeve without stating why you hold a different OPINION. So as I have started to do, Write your Post in Notepad or Word, or Paper and Pencil. Do some research, find some links that you can tie your thoughts together with. Find a Picture and prep it with imageshack or something prior to hitting Create Post link. Then Preview and search for mistakes and obvious spelling errors and that this is really what you want to present as you. Above all don't give anyone a reason to think you came to a Gunfight with a slingshot.

If you Post, You assume to be the informed person. No Guppies lately :)

My last thought would be on how to respond to a BAD Post. Perspective again and a grain of salt. If I was posting my 1st, good Idea poor presentation or vice-versa be supportive. We all aren't Chris, Prime, and Connor and many others here. It's a whole new thing and we all learn a little each time. I still want oldchiefsfans flying Monkeys! and TheQ's charts and about 100% of the knowledge you all have that I don't know. I thought GenericBrand's Post the other day on TEAM, excellent Idea, well written, The Title. Eh GB.

Well it will soon be Independence Day, Be Independent in thought and faithfull in Action!

People take a lot of pride in what they write here because they spend the time to do the necessary research and take the time to formulate their thoughts and opinions.

On the flip side, and this is especially prudent when newbies (whether new Chiefs fans or fans of other teams from other sites), if someone new comes in…welcome them! Nothing turns somebody off like a bunch of cuss words or a “You’re an idiot”, no matter how much you may dislike their comment/thought.

The best way to filter out what you consider the “bad” FanPosts, is just not to comment. And, oh yeah, don’t feed the trolls :)

Is there a formatting guide post. I see more often then not the quote blocking messed up and whatnot and I’m guilty party #1 for that because it doesnt seem to work how I want it to.

Somewhere deep inside I still think this team is better than they are...

unfortunately they probably wont break out of their funk until August like last year.

And without starting a whole different rant on the merits of how well Trey does his job, its pretty hard to turn chicken shit into chicken salad… Regardless in the last 3 years the offense has gotten worse, despite GMDM bringing in “good players.” Daytons offensive players have definitely been offensive. And of course this wouldn’t be so bad if they were a team of Ozzie Smiths and Doug Mientkiewicz’ but their not, they are a shitty offensive team, and a shitty defensive team. You can have a good defensive team without good pitching, but you cant have a good pitching team without good defense, and since our defense is murdering our pitching, it looks like we dont even have that…

And look at that, I did what I said I wasn’t going to do.

honestly...

I dont think we are any worse at that than anyone else, but unfortunately for us its the straw that broke the camels back. I would also imagine that when you watch one team all year small things snowball into big things, and when you only see another team maybe 6 times, even a turd of a player can play mistake free ball in those 6 games, and then go back to being a turd the other 155 games.

Laying down the posting etiquette. Well done. I think it is cool how everyone adds to the conversation/discussion in some way, shape, or form. I think it is really interesting how there is a culture that has formed on AP, that is different even than other SBNation blogs. You gotta give extra props (I see you already did) to Chris and Primetime for cultivating that. I remember my first post. It was a babbling, stream-of-consciousness. Chris was kind enough to suggest I use “paragraphs”. Ha! And I owe a lot to all the great posters on AP. Quite frankly, it has made me a better FAN. sniff, sniff….

I agree with Q, I’m reasonably new to the site and have found myself checking in to AP pretty often now. I’m enjoying the different perspectives and banter even though some of the conversation is clearly over my head.
