"Coach said he’s going to have me doing all these ball drills and I probably won’t have one drop all season," said Bowe. "There are going to be a lot of new drills this year, the same drills he used with Larry Fitzgerald."

Well Praise God....

Same drills as Fitz…that is encouraging.

This automatically makes him a superstar!

We do the same drills! Yes! Hopefully it works.

I think there is more to it than that...

Like…that its the same coach working with the guy…

Misplaced sarcasm is less appealing.

Are drops important?

Gretz has a table with the players with the most drops. In order….

Braylon Edwards
Dwayne Bowe
Brandon Marshall
Terrell Owens
Calvin Johnson

All those guys had pretty good seasons. Some had down years, but still solid.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 8, 2009 4:45 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That is what I was thinking...

Despite drops, all those had some great seasons…

by woodman212 on Jun 8, 2009 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

But

how many of those guys played on playoff teams. How many did you see last year drop a ball that could have changed the outcome of the game.

by Nelly on Jun 8, 2009 4:47 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And

The answer is zero.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 8, 2009 4:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just remember

Bowe dropping passes that could have sustained drives and T.O. dropping passes that could have gone for touchdowns. Most on that list by catching a pass or two more could have perhaps helped seal a win or two.

by Nelly on Jun 8, 2009 4:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not to mention dropped balls

to win or tie games and dropped kickoffs to lose games. My count was 4 total but honestly 6-10 isnt a whole lot better then 2-14 its still pretty bad.

Braylon Edwards

Killed the Browns early and killed Derrik Anderson.

Paddy

Jamal Lewis not being able to run the ball..

killed Derrik Anderson, and the Browns.

Yeah

but you never know. Winning a game here and there could have created momemtum. Didn’t Bowe drop a pass in that NE game that could have tied it. Maybe Herm goes for 2 and we win it. a win like that does wonders toward confidence. Instead losing a game with Brady out deflates a team.

Not just passes...

…don’t forget the onside kick he dropped that most certainly lost us the San Diego game. That game was otherwise over. At least it got Carl fired. ;)

by jbj8609 on Jun 8, 2009 5:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And don't forget

-Kept the Donkeys out of the playoffs
-Which in turn loses Shanny his job
-Which down the line ships Cutler out of town

Nice work Bowe!

TOUCHDOWN! KAN-SAH-CITY!!!

by TheScootness on Jun 8, 2009 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

we should all be glad that Bowe dropped that onside kick

Cutler absolutely tore us up…now he’s the Vikings’ problem

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Jun 9, 2009 7:01 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

but you also need to be good enough to get throws. which means you are good enough to get open. a good wide receiver will probably always lead the league in drops. I haven’t checked though.

Beat the Donkeys!!

I like Bowe

and I hope his “serious” approach this year along with Haley’s guidance can take him to the next level. It is ambitious to say that he will have no drops but if he shoots high, he could still decrease his drops. I think he will learn how to be a proffesional this year.

by Nelly on Jun 8, 2009 4:48 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Good news

I hope that Bowe can benefit from this, seems like it worked for Fitz.

"I can only imagine what it is going to be like in that town if we are fortunate to build a winner. You win there, you can sense that it would be something really special." - Todd Haley

I mentioned this yesterday...

If you look at Bowe vs Fitz, there are a lot of similarities in build, speed, jumping ability etc. There is no reason Bowe cannot become the next Larry Fitzgerald. Other than Larry’s ability to concentrate on the ball, I see NO difference in talent.
It also doesnt hurt that Kurt Warner can throw downfield with more accuracy than just about anyone.

True – but a lot of Fitz’s catches are within 10 yards of the LOS, and he takes it from there. I hope Bowe can do the same kind of thing.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Jun 9, 2009 9:08 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

True..

When it is a deep ball it seems like he is also in heavy coverage and just goes up and fights for the ball…Oh he almost always catches it BTW.
We all know that Bowe can fight for the ball the same way. Now we have a QB who can actually get it to him. BREAKOUT YEAR FOR D-BOWE!!!

I actually think that after dropping a little weight

that Bowe will be better at jump balls than Fitz…from what I’ve seen, Bowe has better timing – Fitz gets a lot of those balls because of athleticism, but many times he isn’t at the peak of his jump when the ball hits his hands.

If Bowe and Cassel can get that timing down, especially on the fade in the endzone, look out =)

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

I would like to see where they rank on drop per pass attempt.

All these guys would be high on the list of times targetted per game. Now there are some guys who catch lots of balls not on the list (Fitz) but it makes sense that the guys thrown to the most drop the most balls.

by saskwatch on Jun 8, 2009 5:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I've went over this exact thing

I think TO was ranked worst, followed by Bowe at #3? I can’t recall exactly, but it’s close to something like that. The stats I found only listed the top 15 worst…. Tony G wasn’t on the list(s) anywhere.

My crystal ball says that the Chiefs will not be drafting Aaron Curry. Their record at the end of 2009 will be 10-6. After witnessing the 2009 draft, their record will be 8-8.

is it because they get more balls thrown to them?
