Chiefs New Faces:Defense/Special Teams
Inroducing the New Chiefs defensive/special teams players
Mike Vrabel was acquired from the New England Patriots along with Matt Cassel. Vrabel spent his last 8 seasons in New England gathering 662 tackles and 55 sacks along with 11 interceptions in his career. The former Patriot will bring a lot of knowledge to the young KC defense and a winning attitude after being a three time Super Bowl champion. Vrabel has also been named to 1 Pro Bowl and was the first defensive player to register an offensive touchdown in the Super Bowl since William "Refrigerator" Perry in 1986. Vrabel may also be used in short yardage situations on offense with the Chiefs.
Interesting Fact:Vrabel wears the#50 because his favorite Nascar driver Danny Merando wore the number on his car for years.

Zach Thomas is a veterean linebacker that will bring all kinds of smarts to the Kansas City Chiefs defense and even at his age can play football. Thomas a 7x Pro Bowler has 1,733 tackles with 20.5 sacks and 17 interceptions. Zach was a mid round gem for the Dolphins drafted in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Thomas played his first 12 years in Miami and then played last year with the Dallas Cowboys. Zach Thomas opted to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs over the New York Jets to a 1 year $2 million dollar contract. The Chiefs will have some solid veterean linebackers between Vrabel and Thomas.
Travis Daniels is a cornerback that will add to the list of LSU alumni on the KC Chiefs roster. Daniels was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Travis was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a 7th round pick in 2008 and then was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on March 10, 2009. Daniels has 130 tackles and 3 interceptions in his career.

Monty Beisel is another linebacker that the Chiefs signed in the offseason. Monty was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 4th round of the 2001 NFL Draft. Beisel was signed by the New England Patriots in his first time in free agency while Scott Pioli was a member of the Patriots. Beisel then played for the Arizona Cardinals with Todd Haley last season and became the first player in NFL history to score a game-winning touchdown in overtime by returning a blocked punt. Beisel joins KC for the second time and says it feels like home and he looks to produce on special teams and defense this season. Monty has 234 tackles and 4.5 sacks with 2 interceptions in his career.
Corey Mays is a linebacker that also played for Pioli in New England as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Mays was cut by New England after one season and then signed with the Bengals. Mays played for the Bengals for 2 seasons and signed with the Chiefs this year as a non-tendered resticted free agent. Mays only has 41 career tackles but most of those have came on special teams. The Chiefs will look for Mays to be a special teams contributer.
