"I remember coming in as a rookie and thinking, ‘Man, these workouts, they’re putting emphasis on you doing it yourself.’ But this year, they’re making sure we don’t have a chance to slack or take any days off.

As a math teacher, I’d LOVE to leave students to their OWN learning methods, and I have, to the extent possible. That being said, it’s still critical that you insist on EVERYone doing certain things. It’s easy to pinpoint the kinds of things successful players/students do OUTside of the classroom, but you want EVERYbody doing those kinds of things, and most students/players need (and appreciate) clearly structured must-do’s. It’s not enough to preach it. You have to insist on it and give constant feedback.
