"The biggest adjustment for me has been learning the protection schemes, knowing when I have to block, who I have to block and understanding what situation we're in,'' Williams said. "At Tennessee State it was a lot more simple."

UCRAWFORD weren't you claiming a couple months back
that LJ would be cut? Whatever happened to that..
And now your here telling us that Larry Johnson may get replaced by a rookie running back from Tenn. State? Get real..
It’s obvious that your complete distaste for LJ has led to some completely ignorant comments and statements..Get over it, LJ is gonna kick ass in 2009 and run for 1500 yards..Sorry

1500 yards might be a bit optimistic...
but I also think LJ will have a good year and honestly our offense this year will sink or swim depending on what LJ does.

Past history
He’s using the basis of past history for his comments. It is very, very rare for a running back past the age of 30 and someone with the workload LJ has had to come back and play well. Plus, things like injury and the possibility of a pass heavy offense don’t bode well for him.

Season Hasn't Started Yet
I’m still predicting he’ll be cut, before the season kicks in and his contract gets reinstated…which is what I’ve said all along, that he won’t play another meaningful game for the Chiefs.
It’s obvious that your complete distaste for LJ has led to some completely ignorant comments and statements..
If you take issue with my prediction that’s fine. But watch the personal attacks or you and I are going to have a problem.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.

Also
There’s not a chance in hell he gets 1500 yards. He would have to get 300 carries at 5 yards per carry to pull that off and he hasn’t gotten close to 300 carries since his 2006 season, and he only got over 4 yards per carry in four games last year out of 12 he played in (only one of them coming against a good defense). With the schedule the Chiefs have in 2009, even if he got 300 carries (which he won’t because Haley runs a pass-heavy offense and Johnson’s getting cut before the season starts) there’s no way he’s averaging 5 yards per against the Ds he’s facing.

I didn't personally attack you..I stated that your distaste
was perhaps leading to some ignorant statements..I tend to agree with what you post, but I just don’t see Larry being cut since he’s now our best offensive player (imo), has been a cut above the rest during the offseason (according to cassell), and our offense would be terrible without him..Losing Tony and Larry in one season would be suicide for the offense..Just don’t see that happening. I agree with the post above - Larry’s performance will have a huge influence on our success next year..
And this guy from Tenn. State may not even unseat Kolby Smith..The odds are 1 and 100 he upseats larry..
Whether Larry runs for 1500 yards or not I don’t know..Sure it seems optimistic but he had a terrible season last year and really wasn’t even utilized and he almost ran for 1000..He isn’t 30 yet either..He’s got 2 more elite years left in him..I guess we shall see what happens..
Obviously you are one of many chiefs fans who dislike Larry personally..But he’s easily one of the top backs in the league this upcoming season and I hope he proves it..This is a make or break season for him

It's Only Suicide If You're Operating Under The Premise That Johnson Is Still An Elite Player
He isn’t. The guy had only four games last year where he got 4 ypc. He has to come out on passing downs because his blocking is so poor. Jamaal Charles outperformed him on a per-carry basis by a significant amount, playing behind the same offensive line Johnson did. And he hasn’t been able to produce 300 carries since they overused him in 2006…even prorated for his suspension time last year.

Here we go again UC...
Seriously, you have said on many occasions that LJ wouldn’t be here since before the draft and the after the draft. The fact is, he IS still here AND he WILL be a Chief. The team needs him in a big way and the word out of camp is that he has been the most impressive player on the whole team.
I would not say that he will get 1500 yards but, he should do quite well. he will get a lot of screens and passes in the flat along with Charles. We should see some great performances from our backfield this year including both players but, without LJ, Charles would not be able to do anything.
Charles is a fine player but, he is a complimentary back, not a go-to guy.
You and I as Chiefs fans need to root on our offensive backfield (including LJ) because, our receivers/TEs can not get it done on their own.

He averaged over 4.5 yards last year...Which places him among the best rb's last year per carry.
Regardless, I guess we’ll see what happens this year..
I’d bet everything I own that not only does Johnson remain a chief, but he remains the starter..I wish vegas had that bet since it would be a sure thing.

Again
Most of that came in just four games, 3 of them against really terrible defenses. He was pretty much terrible the rest of the time he played. Go look at his stat lines. Or at the piece that was done here at Arrowhead Pride this offseason showing how Johnson’s abilities have declined significantly over the last two years.
I’d bet everything I own that not only does Johnson remain a chief, but he remains the starter..I wish vegas had that bet since it would be a sure thing.

L.J.'s history tells us...
One more alcohol incident and the NFL will suspend him. Seen drinking in K.C. at all violates his probation thus gets him suspended. Not getting his way or enough carry’s make him cry to Twitlock. I’m not the H.C. so I can’t tell you if he makes it to the opening day roster, but if he does make it there’s no way I’ll bet anything that he will finish the season with the team or even in the NFL. His history tells us that he likes to drink and will smack around any woman that does not show him what he thinks is the proper respect. For that alone I have no respect for him at all. I want whats best for the Chiefs period and today L.J. might be the best RB we can have, but can we count on him all season long, will he be here or sitting at home when the end of the season comes. And Most important Will he be a player we can build the team upon, because thats what we are trying to do Build a winning team and I don’t see him helping us.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

I will split the road and say
that LJ stays, but is nowhere near 1500 yds rushing.
I think the most telling stat is the Cardinal’s offense last year. 32nd in overall rushing with a total of 1180 rushing yards. It took 4 different players to combine for that total (Anquan Boldin being the 4th best rusher on the team). And you think LJ will single handedly get 1500? He might be able to do this as the feature back in a run heavy offense, but not part of a two back system (Johnson and Charles) in a pass heavy offense. LJ will have a role next season, but he will not be leading the league in rushing yards.
Here is another fun statistic. In Haley’s career as a wide recievers coach/offensive coordinator going back to 2001 with the Bears, He only had 2 years without a 1000+ yard receiver. That was 2003 and 2004. We all know that there were 3 1000+ yard recievers at Arizona last year under his tutelage. Bottom line – get ready to see some passing, and not so much running. Go Chiefs!
by Fourstrike89 on Jun 29, 2009 9:20 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Haley will use the talent he has and base the offense on that.
You can throw out the idea that we’ll be the Arizona Cardinals or anywhere close to that because we wont. The offense there was like that because of the players he had to work with and we dont have those players or anywhere near those players. So to say that LJ wont get carries based on that is inaccurate. Haley has also said numerous times that we likely won’t be a team that throws as much as they did in Arizona and that we will be a very good running team.
by GenericBrand on Jun 29, 2009 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Never said we would be close to the Cardinals
I just thinks its obvious as to what kind of ball Haley likes to play. Haley likes to get the ball to the recievers. That will be his number one priority, not running the ball. James and Hightower are both quality running backs, but neither one had over 550 yards last year. I do think he will include LJ in this years game plan, but no way he hits 1500 yards. Plus, I didn’t say he wouldn’t get that many carries only because of the wide recievers. I said he won’t get those many carries because of wide recievers and sharing the duties with another running back.
Predictions for 2009
1) Chiefs will go 6-10, and still be in the hunt for the AFC West title come December.
2)Bobby Engram approaches 1000 yards receiving
3)Tyler Thigpen is used in ways that the NFL has never thought of/seen before

For some reason I see the Chiefs
being alot more balanced on Offense for Haleys first or second year…I think the O-line will play alot better together this year thus allowing the Chiefs to run the ball a little more than last year. I just dont think they will put Cassel out there like that. This is not the Patriots O, nor is it Arizonas O….we traded Cassel’s best target, now it truely is the
D-Bowe show which im sure he will be recieving alot more attention from opposing Ds. After that WR get thin. Will bradley stay healthy to make an impact? What about Engram?? Jeff Webb??? Theres alot of ? after D-Bowe who comes with some of his own..
Zack Greinke for Cy Young!!!!!

LJ and Charles will catch a lot of passes out of the backfield...
Also, what I saw from D Savage earlier is saying that they are lining up the RBs wide in some cases at practice.
Haley will make sure that he gets the ball to his playmakers and right now, LJ and Charles are two of the best playmakers on the team. Screens, wheel routes, passes into the flat and play action. These are the types of things we should expect from this offense. That can be a very effective game plan too. It is very difficult for opposing defenses to know what is going to happen.
To try to make this team a high flying offense like Az has would be the same as trying to fit square pegs into a round hole. We are not ready for that yet and, that may not be how this team gets built.
