"He knows how hard it is for a free-agent running back to make it in the NFL. It’s also hard on me because I’m small and a lot of times small guys in the league don’t last long. Small guys have to work harder and show you want the job."

He Doesn't Need To Worry About Being Small

He needs to worry about that 2.1 yards per carry he posted last season. That’ll kill any running back no matter how big or small they are.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.

Correction

3.5 yards per carry, which actually isn’t horrible for a rookie (I looked at his punt return average by mistake) but still isn’t good for an NFL RB. He needs to improve on that. But at least he was better than Kolby Smith last year.

He Also Needs To Worry About Jamal Charles

They are competing for essentially the same spot—the change of pace running back. I like the guy, but I don’t envy his position.

A person in good health in a Western liberal democracy is, in terms of his objective circumstances, one of the most fortunate human beings ever to have walked the surface of the earth.

His Situation Looks A Lot Brighter

If Larry Johnson gets cut. I think Savage could beat Kolby Smith for the #2 job if Johnson’s out of here.

Kolby Smith needs to break out this year.

Otherwise there is a strong chance he will be cut. I can’t wait to get a chance to see Javarius Williams move with the ball.

I don't think we can keep Johnson, Battle, Kolby, and Williams.

They are all power runners. I think Kolby is gone… another Herm draft pick that had potential but didn’t quite work out. I don’t think we will keep more than 3 RBs since we are dedicating a few spots to special teams. Whoever is best on special teams between Battle, Williams, and Savage will be the 3rd RB behind Johnson and Charles.

I think here's the most interesting thing in the article
"Practice went real good," Savage said. "We’re doing a lot of different things, a lot of new things. Running backs are catching the ball more out of the backfield. We’re lining up as a receiver, a slot receiver, and we’re going in motion. Last year, we didn’t do that much at all, so I think I have the skills to help out."

A small look into the new/modified offense. Should be exciting.
