Turk McBride Interviewed On Red Zone
From the FanPosts -Primetime

I haven't seen anyone talk about Turk's interview yesterday. I just went through it today on podcast and made a few notes on what was discussed. I don't know if there is anything groundbreaking except for one thing he said. When asked who has lost the most weight in the conditioning program his answer was D-Mac. Wow...I hadn't heard anyone mention McIntosh in that light yet. If he has gotten into great shape and lost weight, maybe the knee troubles he was having last year won't be an issue and he'll be able to move better. Who knows, maybe RT isn't going to be an issue for us this year (just a crazy thought!).
But anyway...here are the notes I made.
Notes on Redzone Interview with Turk McBride:
He was a receiver in high school, so he believes he has the footwork and athleticism to be able to do the drops. The main thing now is just learning to read the formations and movement.
Says this scheme should be much more able to put pressure on the quarterback. Made a comment about there being conflict in the team last year in working the scheme. He says this years scheme is less complicated and easier to understand, less thinking and more reacting.
Haley has a lot of fire and intensity, but he's not really a yeller. An "I said it so get it done" kind of guy.
Across the board guys are in better shape. Says he didn't know he even had a problem with conditioning, but things are different now.
Training camp is going to be a lot more physical and more running. There is a whole different look in peoples eyes..much more focused.
Says D-Mac has lost the most weight on the team.
OK, that's all I know!

Woohoo!
And a good one at that. I’ve been putting off doing this all day. Big thanks for your time and rec’d!

Thank you and you are welcome!
And thank you for dressing it up a little with the pic too!

Thank you!
That was a great first fanpost. Now I don’t have to listen to the podcast.

You still oughta listen to the 'cast, Q.
But towards the end, when Soren gets out his statistician’s visor and talks about history, you might not be as interested. But I really think you want to hear what McBride says, in his own words and voice.

Thanks Mills
I am rooting for the guy, I definitely need to hear what he has to say.

D-Mac lost the most weight?
Chiefs had him listed at 328 last year. If he lost more than Albert, that would put him under 300 lbs…

That does seem a little strange.
Maybe he ballooned up like Albert did, but we just didn’t hear about it.

I'm sure he gained weight in the offseason
what offensive lineman doesn’t?
A person in good health in a Western liberal democracy is, in terms of his objective circumstances, one of the most fortunate human beings ever to have walked the surface of the earth.

That's true
Didn’t think of that.

maybe they're only counting fat loss?
If they calculate lean body mass and track progress with skin fold calipers, then they’ll know that the players aren’t losing muscle… I mean, losing weight is only good if you don’t get weaker in the process. At least that’s the case for a lineman, right?

Good points.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they got DEEPLY into the body fat index stuff. Another thing about strength training is you tend to lose inches, but not necessarily lose weight.
Saw my nephew married yesterday. At 6’4’’ and 260 lbs, he just doesn’t LOOK that big. Just a tremendous amount of muscle mass. He’d probably sink like a rock in a swimming pool.

Good point
I think there is a little difference in philosophy compared to last season as well. I think they are looking for quicker, more mobile pass blockers compared to a bigger, zone blocking scheme they were trying to build last year.

Did sound odd
And Petro questioned him about it and he confirmed. Perhaps it wasn’t just that he lost weight but changed the shape more than most. He did say everybody across the board is looking better. Petro asked him if anyone was going to be making special trips to the beach to show off and he said Tank was (laughing when he said it)

Correction
LT (as in left tackle) was never a problem for us since drafting Albert. RT (right tackle), which McIntosh plays, is what you meant to say

oops
LOL…seems like when I typed that it just didn’t look right to me. And it wasn’t!

If all these other boners
overlooked it, it couldn’t have been that bad

If Haley wanted Albert at 305, I'm sure he also wanted D-Mac around 305.
I think it’ll be good for D-Mac. He won’t get tired very easily. With Waters and Goff holding down the guard positions, we might actually have a decent (maybe even good) offensive line this year.

D-Mac has much better feet than he typically showed.
You could see it when he was running the field, but his kick-step in pass-protection wasn’t all that great.

I still think his first step was a bit slow
due to him having to keep his left eye on Asshat Jones at RG
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Remember JORDAN BLACK was here before D-Mac!
D-Mac was hurt and didn’t play well last year, but he is still 10 times better than JORDAN BLACK. Maybe with a hard working coach D-Mac will be forced to step his game up? If Waters gets his head out of his ass & comes to play they have a chance to be a very solid O-Line! It all depends on how Waters feels, cuz his feewings were hurted.

Comments on the paraphrases
He was a receiver in high school, so he believes he has the footwork and athleticism to be able to do the drops. The main thing now is just learning to read the formations and movement.
I think he actually said “getting the RIGHT drop” is what’s requiring the most work. But yeah, no mobility issues. Just getting the proper drops.
Says this scheme should be much more able to put pressure on the quarterback. Made a comment about there being conflict in the team last year in working the scheme. He says this years scheme is less complicated and easier to understand, less thinking and more reacting.
This is crucial, to me. What was said was that last year they relied on the front 4 to get pressure and the back 7 guys to help cover, which has been said over and over by me, for one. When Petro said the D might look a lot more like a 5-2, McBride said the OLB spot WAS a lot like an upright DE, with 5 guys crashing the backfield (this last phrase he might’ve just lifted from Petro’s lengthy question).
Haley has a lot of fire and intensity, but he’s not really a yeller. An “I said it so get it done” kind of guy.
This is ALSO big for me. There’s a HUGE difference between being blunt and insisting on “I said it, so you do it,” and just ranting at people. Rants are about stroking the ranter’s ego, and NOT about getting the job done. That drill sergeant shit only goes so far. And it’s punishment enough to hand the player an honest eval that’s full of negatives. It doesn’t do any good to pile a bunch of bitching on top of it, which is part of why I’m glad to see Gun gone.
It might seem “new age” or “politically correct,” but there’s a distinct difference between tough leadership and verbal abuse. Reminds me of that Jimmy Johnson commercial where this TE comes off the field “That was pretty good, wasn’t it coach?” Jimmy smiles and puts an arm around the guy. “Sure was.” The guy says “Does that mean I’m making the team?” Jimmy continues smiling and says “No,” with a chuckle.
