From watching Succop in practice with the Chiefs and for three years at South Carolina -- that's the team I covered before joining The Star to cover the Chiefs -- Succop has a nearly 60-yard range. Whether it goes straight or not, though, was a question throughout his final two college seasons, and that'll be something he has to address at Chiefs camp.

Which will win out: Stronger leg or more accurate leg?

It's amazing what a abdominal strain can do to a Kicker

Sort of like a Groin pull on a Porn Star IMO.
Hampers performance

I thought...

that they might keep both, and just have a kickoff specialist…
but getting down to 53 for the final roster may make it tough to “waste” a 2nd spot on a kicker.

my money is now on Succup. I think the new special teams coach will be pushing him, and making him better.

Pioli is a prideful guy

I can’t see him keeping one of Herm’s UDFA’s over his own draft choice. But as prideful as he may be, he’s not stupid and if Barth was truly the better kicker he would make the team

I know it isn't common

but we could keep them both,

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Doesn't seem like Haley's style

Does it?

I imagine he wants that extra body in there on ST and back up secondary, LB, WR, etc.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 23, 2009 8:29 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree that it's not ideal

and that it’s not Haley’s style, but he has emphasized how important special teams are – if carrying two kickers is what it takes to get kickoffs into the endzone and make FG’s, we might be forced to do it.

At least until

our ST coach can work on Succop’s accuracy. But it doesn’t sound like he’s been having trouble with that in OTAs so far. I thought he and Barth were about equal in numbers of attempts made. Of course, that could change at game-time (we’ve seen that before).

by Chiefs4Life on Jun 24, 2009 9:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Succop will have to beat Barth in training camp.

But I think he will and will prove that the 40 yards in a secure, with the added bonus of 40+ are more otten than not GOOOOOOOD. Janikowski came into the league and proved more than capable and he was a 2nd rd pick? We might have? shored up our next Stenerud or Lowery wit Mr. Irrelevant. I hope

I hope Succop makes a Pro Bowl

so we can have BOTH of the pro bowl irrelevants in NFL history

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
