Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

"I know Scott, I know how he's wired, I know how he thinks. I consider him a friend," Smith said. "He'll take that place, assess it, and they will rock and roll from top to bottom.

"I believe he's going to make them a winner. How quickly does that take place? Personally and professionally speaking, I hope it takes him a while."

That's awesome...

Hopefully he is not just trying to cover his tail in case we start beating them…Building Pioli up and whatnot…

Well

DUH! ;)

My crystal ball says that the Chiefs will not be drafting Aaron Curry. Their record at the end of 2009 will be 10-6. After witnessing the 2009 draft, their record will be 8-8.

From that same article

on page 3 or 4 (can’t remember which now)

Dwayne Bowe, a former first-round draft choice entering his third NFL season, showed up to offseason workouts overweight and was told to lose 20-25 pounds. He reportedly has worked hard to do so

Pokin' my nose back in...

Yeah, he’s doing a little CYA, IMO. Doesn’t mean we’re contenders, but there’s cause to hope.

Off-hand comment: If the Chiefs don’t come out /blazin’/ outa the gate, expect a few blackouts. The CP regime damaged the franchise that badly, IMO, by pretending that we were contenders and jacking up the prices accordingly. Told it to the dead-site years ago, and see no reason to retract. Hope Scotty pulls a miracle of engineering out of his hat, and saves the day, but the NFL ain’t Star Trek, either.

On a personal note, if anyone cares: she’s entering Phase 2 of the chemo, which involves a (purportedly) less detrimental poison, but at a higher rate. That being weekly, rather than every-other. Anyone who GAD is invited to send goodthoughts, and such are appreciated.

Y’all be well

Cassel vs. Thigpen in Camp should improve the play of both.
Next on the need list: linebacker, and both lines

Goodthoughts, BRG.

I think blackouts are a dumb way to react to problems selling tickets. Hope the Chiefs head off your prediction by winning.

Smith’s comments were very general, and generally disarming, as one would expect. Definitely a whiff of CYA in the air.

I personally think trying to fix the pass rush just by bringing in pass rushers is like treating a broken bone with an ice pack. Yeah, there’s swelling, but you really need to set the bone. I was more worried about San Diego making a splash in d-line, which I thought was the big problem their LBs were having. When they went straight after symptoms, without going after cures, their stock went down in my book.

Thanks, HM

Something to be said for your anology. Whether or not the 3-4 is inherently “superior” to the 4-3, changing the scheme that radically has the potential to make an institutional change, which is a rather more difficult thing than making a personnel change.

One may hope.

And good thoughts are being sent your way

As far as black outs, I’m not sure what to make of it, but playing all those NFC East teams (two of them) at home will likely be a good draw. I don’t see us not selling those out.

I think it’s the game against a nobody in December when we’re 2-12 we gotta worry about.

~ 2 - 12 ~

Wow, PT~ already sold on a non-winning season? I, am not with ya on that yet, I can see improvements in a team that lost 7 games by 7 points or less last year! The el numero uno thing I see that makes me think we can pull this off is simply CONDITIONING~ How many of those 7 games we lost by 7 or fewer could we of pulled out in the 4th quarter by hanging onto a lead or making the plays in the end to win it?

I just see a lot better of a Defense and our Offense could be a very well liked surprise~

I cant sell out yet with a 2-12 record and black outs! lol
just cant see it! maybe its the red I see that blinds me

Oh, I'm not predicting that

I was just saying that’s the only way we would blackout this year IMO.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 14, 2009 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What was our pathetic record last season

when it came time to play the Dolphins in the 2009 Price Chopper Freeze-your-nuts-off Bowl?

If we didn’t have a blackout that Sunday, I can’t imagine us having one in 2009.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

The league

really needs to take the current economic situation into consideration for this season in terms of blackouts. i’m sure there would be nothing but sellouts in KC if tickets, parking, and concessions were priced at a level all could afford, but right now, that’s not possible.

by thejesuslizard on Jun 14, 2009 10:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would disagree

I don’t have any stats to back this up, but if the Chiefs were winning then Arrowhead would be rocking again no questions asked.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 14, 2009 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

but if they weren't

doesn’t mean the diehards would go away, just the JoCo elitie who use their tickets mainly for status.

a lot of people who live and die with this team have lost their jobs. they go, win or lose, but now don’t have the resources to spend 200-1000 bucks to see a football game. so, why should they (and other teams in the league under the same economic climate) punish the fans?

it’s not like the oweners haven’t been making profit, hand over fist, for the past decade, getting new stadiums (with taxpayer money), etc.

i’m just saying, throw the fans a bone.

Thanks, PT

Maybe I’m overstatin’ the case, but we’ve takne a beating, and ticket sales appear to have weakened over the past 5 years or so. IMO, they could take a serious drop if we stumble coming out of the gate, and with a poor economy, sales to businesses could be problematic, too. No sellout = blackout.

I hope I’m wrong.

As a personal update, the chemo schedule steps up to weekly, so if I vanish again, y’all know why. Things are just now quiet enough for me to indulge in a little sports-talk, ya know?

Some things are more important. At the same time, sometimes stepping away from reality is needed at times.

News Flash: Pioli is one of the best football men in the NFL: He’s a four-time winner of NFL Executive of the Year honors from national media outlets. Pioli is taking a brain-dead organization (thank you, Herm) and is bringing it back to life. CP was not the worst thing to happen to this organization, although he over stayed his welcome by about 10 years. Herm was the nail in the coffin. Pioli has brought in a coach who was arguably the best offensive coordinator in the league. Together, these guys will make steady progress and won’t quit. These guys are relentless, smart and have the pedigree.

The Chargers are nervous because they aren’t stupid. If Pioli/Haley had taken over the Broncos we’d be dead. It’s like MU passing on Bill Self—- one of the dumbest moves in the history of college basketball.

The Chiefs are in good hands.

by ChiefConcern on Jun 14, 2009 8:57 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think we're in a different boat having Pioli.

I know its easy to say all these other teams have adopted the “Patriot Way” with their coaches being former Pat coaches but I dont see it. No coach has left the Patriot system and succeeded and frakly no coach has left the Pats system and conducted themselves in th “Patriot Way”. Until a coach leaves that system and has success or conducts themselves in the same way they will always be just a cheap knock off.

Pioli on the other hand was BB right hand man. He’s not a coach but was a main cog in the Patriots system and so far has conducted himself in that fashion and instilled it in his coaches. Just compare how Pioli/Haley have run things in comparison to the circus McDaniels has gone through and you will see the obvious difference.

Not saying I like the Patriot way of doing things but if this is something that will make our team successful then I’m all for it. But I think people are misinformed to compare what we have in Pioli to anything anyone else has in a coach.

nick saban

wasn’t he a patriot guy? He didn’t do much with Miami but in college ranks he seems quite good.

Kinda, sorta

he was BB’s DC in Cleveland.
