As much as I detest the Broncos

Part of me feels intense pity for them. We are watching in a single offseason the complete and total dismantling of what could have been a competitive and fun-to-watch football team. The broncos fanbase has seemed to take all of this offseason implosion in stride, are they just too dense to understand the implications of this offseason? They’ve traded away a young franchise QB, they’re making a switch to a 3-4 without any emphasis on drafting or otherwise acquiring personnel capable of the transition, they bombed the draft, their new HC makes Herm look desireable.

I cannot recall any team completely falling apart and making such amazingly counterproductive moves in such a short period of time. This is legendary mismangement, so much so that I am wondering how long it is before the Federales assume ownership of the once mighty franchise only to further botch the whole mess.

After lurking over at MHR, I think a lot of them are in “La-la land” but at least they recognize that.

No matter what else happened, after they got rid of Cutler it was all down hill. It did not matter what they got in return for Cutler because he’s about as good as it gets. You can’t replace him.

But from a purely malicious viewpoint, the only way this offseason would have been better is if the Chiefs had been succesful in hiring Mike Shanahan.

Not from a “yay! the Chiefs have Shanny as a coach!” viewpoint, but just from the viewpoint of watching the Broncos fans spontaneously combust with that, Cutler being traded, the bad draft and now Marshall possibly leaving.

Even if Cassel pulls a Todd Blackledge, he was WORTH a 2nd round pick for what has happened to the Broncos because of it.
