Chad Johnson Responds to New Chief, Former Bengal Ghiaciuc
Back on June 1st, Bob Gretz had an article on the Mothership titled "Odds and Ends", which included a section on former Cincinnati Bengals center and current Kansas City Chiefs center Eric Ghiaciuc. When asked about the distractions looming around Cincinnati last season, namely Chad Johnson's "Will-he or won't-he" attendance at the Bengals offseason program, Ghiaciuc said:
"As much as you try to focus on football with your day-to-day routine of meetings, lifting, walkthroughs, practices, games, you can focus but it’s still there," Ghiaciuc said of the distractions. "It’s like when you turn your head, it’s still behind you. I think we were doing our best to focus on what needed to be focused on in our profession, but it was there and it was a bit of a problem."
Now, you didn't expect someone to indirectly criticize Ochocinco without a comeback, did you? Per Mr. Ochocino when asked about Ghiaciuc:
"Ghiaciuc's play was a distraction. Of all people to call me that."
I'm not going to defend our new center because by plenty of accounts he's not a future Pro Bowler. But, really, Ochocinco? Since the NFL is a 'What have you done for me lately?' kinda league, let's see how you've been doing:
- 53 receptions
- 540 yards
- 4 touchdowns
- 10 games started
On the Chiefs, those numbers would be good enough to pit you in a heated training camp battle with Mark Bradley for the #2 receiver spot. What a joke.

Both players ...
were asked questions by the media and both replied honestly… and I think BOTH are correct. Chad IS a distraction and Ghiaciuc IS probably average at best. If I am Ghiaciuc I answer that way. If I am Chad, I am wondering who this clown is speaking on behalf of the team?

Here's an easy response for Ghiaciuc, Palmer, et al...
“You changed. Your name. To Ochocinco.”

Way to distort the reality.
Whoever put up those stats has no clue about the bengals. Those stats come from Ocho’s worst year, where the O-line was in shambles and the bengals had lost their franchise QB. Before then, Chad was a 5 time Pro-bowler. Gaycheck? Not even average. He has no room to call out Ocho, because, in all honesty, his play was more of a cancer than Ocho ever supposedly was.
by Ermundo on Jun 12, 2009 10:53 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
He didn't call him out.
He was asked if it was a distraction. He answered the right way. If he wanted to call out OCHOCINCO he could’ve.
And way to get “gay” into his name, HILARIOUS!!!!!

I disagree ....
Ghiaciuc can’t call out Chad Johnson .. Actually he COULD .. but who would REALLY care? If anybody should be callin out Chad it is Carson Palmer. THEN you have a story. This is a non story because it started with a non factors opinion. Is it an accurate opinion? Hell yah … but does what he thinks of Chad hold ANY weight?? NOPE. Had he not been signed by the Chiefs I wouldn’t know who he was and would quickly turn the page on the story. As Chad has done with his reply to him. Chad isn’t the FIRST dude to call a bum a bum and not care what bums think … Chads worst season could make him a starter on the our squad. Ghiaciuc is fighting for a spot on our shotty line. So REALLY .. he is in NO position to call out Chad. (my opinion)

I got ya.
I meant he was physically able. Not that he SHOULD. Ghiaciuc had the perfect opportunity to call Johnson out and he didn’t. All he did was answer the question.

Except
Most decent hardworking people WOULDN’T put themselves in his position, then not perform, and still spout off about it. The problem with wanting to be a media sensation, when it blows up in your face, you should take it like a man, say “No comment”, work your ass off, and let your performance do the talking (i.e. Andre Agassi).
And yes, I used a tennis pro as an example.
by thejesuslizard on Jun 12, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
lol ... i LOVE the example ...
I am not defending Chad as a person … I just see no problem with him brushing off the comments of a bum center that didn’t even make calls on the line for the Bengals .. lol How many centers don’t call out assignments?? Maybe HE should focus on getting HIS job right before he makes comments about others ….

Chad's play wasn't questioned
it was the “Will-he or won’t-he” attending being a distraction. Was it? The reply was “…yeah, it was a bit of a problem”.
to me, Ocho’s response shows the he KNOWS he was distractionaciuc. Ocho may have replied “well, you’re mom is fat.”
He was a distraction, Ghiaciuc isn’t the only one to admit that.
When did WR become the position of morons? Ochocinco, TO, Plax, Brandon Marshall, Boldin (to a lesser degree).

I agree he is a distraction but nobody cares if Ghiaciuc thinks so …
is all I am saying. It would matter more to me if Carson were to come out and say it straight up. How would Chad reply had it been Carson that said it?? If he brushed off a Carson statement in the fashion he did Ghiacuic … Since when doesn Ghiacuic represent the Bengals?? lol

I said one comment in support of Ocho, and five hours later there’s 10 plus replies. Either way, Ocho’s not a distraction for changing his name. People do it all the time, and in either case it’s nobody’s business. Why the hell are u guys dissing Ocho over a name change. It’s his life-not yours, and shouldn’t be one bit of a distraction. Calling Ochocinco
a cancer is insulting cancer. lung cancer, breast cancer, ball cancer, liver cancer, skin cancer, hell, ALL are better teamates than Chad “Grace Jones” Ochocinco.
Here’s a guy who wants to be traded, demands it, makes a media shit storm out of nothing, shows up, doesn’t perform AT ALL, while T. J. Houshmandzadeh still pulls down 92 behind the same O-line that was in shambles and backup QB.

I know you're not asking me...
but I do. I think he’ll have a hard time staying healthy being the focus of the Bengal offense. Without Housh on the other side (Coles is decent, he just won’t put up the numbers Housh does), no real running game (maybe Andre Smith can fix that, we’ll see) and having to face two of the best, hardest hitting d’s in the NFL 4 times a year, and being a p.o.s. teammate, yeah, he’s done putting up the numbers of old.
by thejesuslizard on Jun 12, 2009 11:26 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Chad's 31 years old
In a position where he relies on his speed. Those things don’t usually get better with age. I think his 2008 numbers are more indicative of where he’s headed the next couple years than his 2007 numbers.
by Joel Thorman on Jun 12, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
fair enough ...
but what made chad as good as he was is a combination of speed and excellent route running. Yes he has lost a step, but a solid route runner has some pretty good shelf life …

2008 numbers?
Obviously you don’t have a clue. It wasn’t chad’s fault that he played poorly. He was double covered most times, and even then he managed to get open. But unfortunately, Gaycheck and the O-line sucked plus Palmer was gone. No reciever could play their a-game in those conditions, so don’t spout out this BS that one bad year makes him a declining lazy ass. That shows exactly how little you know.
by Ermundo on Jun 12, 2009 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Housh was double more than Ocho
and he still performed…how many bukakes have you taken from Ocho?
by thejesuslizard on Jun 12, 2009 10:37 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Housh was never doubled more than Ocho. Try again.
by Ermundo on Jun 13, 2009 8:55 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
If everything around him was so bad
Then how did Housh have 70 more receptions than him? You’re arguing against yourself.
by Joel Thorman on Jun 13, 2009 11:40 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
What are you talking about? I mean exactly as I say. Ocho was double covered almost all the time, leaving room for Housh to always go over the middle and catch the slant pass. That’s how he got all his stats, because Chad was there to draw coverage. The only thing Housh is good at is posession-he catches the quick pass and holds onto it. And he can only do that if he has a number one receiver paired opposite him-a guy named Chad.
by Ermundo on Jun 13, 2009 12:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I love your argument.
The best WR on our team last year actually sucks and its Ocho who is actually awesome.
Hopefully Ryan Clark will break his jaw next year so he will STFU. Might end up playing better.

And this sounds familiar
Whoever put up those stats has no clue about the bengals. Those stats come from Ocho’s worst year, where the O-line was in shambles and the bengals had lost their franchise QB.
Let’s compare that to Dwayne Bowe….
No oline? Check.
No franchise QB? Check.
3rd string QB? Check.
86 rec, 1,022 yards and 7 TDs.

Chad didn’t kill the Bengals, all he ever did was score TD’s and celebrate in the endzone until Palmer and Lewis threw him under the bus. That turned him. He wasn’t the one getting arrested every other week. And the Bengals could have had 2 first picks from him last year so screw them.

Human Inverse Pancake Tacking Dummy
I don’t know how many Chiefs fans followed what occurred with the Bengal’s center position the last two years. Chad is exactly correct. As a Bengal follower, I only hope that Ghiuchic doesn’t cause a major injury to Matt Cassell. All Ghiaciuc did in Cincy was get knocked back on the ground game after game by D- tackles. I bet Carson Palmer still has happy-happy feet thinking of Inverse Pancake Tackling Dummy flying back ass-first into his knees.

Chad's numbers
Before ridiculing a 500 yard season, remember that Chad led the AFC in receiving yards four straight years, which ties an NFL record. He was recovering from ankle surgery when the 2008 season began, and his shoulder was dislocated. He’s in excellent form this year and will be Carson Palmer’s best friend.

And don’t forget. There is no Chad Johnson on your team anymore. It’s OchoCinco. ; ] Probably fitting because Ocho will never put up the numbers that Chad Johnson did. Best to just consider them 2 different players.
