Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley Talks About Getting Glenn Dorsey Up to Speed at OTAs
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley spoke with the media following today's OTAs. Here are some notes from this short Q&A:
- Started practicing outside earlier this week. Went inside when the storms hit in KC. Practicing both inside and outside is good for this team.
- Worked on the 2-minute drill. Had a good run after practice.
- Made good progress on Tuesday. The team took a step back today.
On the 2-minute drill and football IQ:
So many of these games come down to the last two minutes. We want to be a situationaly smart team. The 2-minute drill is a telling drill to me. Teaching a lot of things in a short time. It's a great drill.
On getting full speed reps for Glenn Dorsey:
Dorsey is learning a new system. Still working on getting him in shape. Dorsey has been working really hard, chomping at the bit to get into the action.
On meshing with Chan Gailey:
This is a learning experience for the coaches as well. Going through all of these plays for the first time together. Wants to work together as a complete staff. Crucial time for the staff to mesh. Watch tapes with both sides of the ball in the room.

I liked what he said.
Rehab field is a lot less fun than the regular practice field, and they want it that way. Heh. Dorsey’s been champin’ at the bit to get on the other field. Sounds like maybe he’s a bit behind on the regular conditioning. Eager to hear he’s making his presence felt.
Also liked the comments about a united staff, and how they all watch the film together and talk about offense and defense at the same time. Pretty cool. Hope that approach is successful. Might only be for this first year, with the new staff?
