Doin' Work: More Random Thoughts

Ok here are more of my random thoughts:

*Brett Favre is pathetic. We all know that he only wants to play for Minnesota to get back at Green Bay. What I don't understand is how a guy who is almost 40 is still obsessing over something like this. Is this guy going to hold a grudge forever? That guy has more drama on him alone than the entire cast of The Hills. Seriously - why the hell would he ever want to play again? I've got two words for ya Brett: Deanna Favre. That'd be reason enough for me to not play football again. Yum a dum dum!

*I listened to today's RedZone podcast and I kinda winced when listening to Brian Waters. He sounded very defensive. A little too defensive, in my opinion. Makes you wonder....

*I'm one of the few people who actually enjoy reading Whitlock's articles but his last one flat out sucked. He was griping about Pioli and how he has kept everything quiet from the media. I like that Pioli has been keeping everything under wraps. Suck on it Whitlock.

*Again, I'll say it just for the hell of it: Deanna Favre.

*I think the Rams or the Raiders will finish with the worst record in the league next season. Anyone else disagree?

Okay that's all for today...

I agree with this

I listened to today’s RedZone podcast and I kinda winced when listening to Brian Waters. He sounded very defensive. A little too defensive, in my opinion. Makes you wonder….
Why wouldn’t he return reporter’s calls? When you avoid everyone and say you’re never at offseason workouts, when you were there last offseason, it sounds like something is wrong.

Oh, and technically, this is Jason Whitlock’s last column. It’s an interesting read.

Whoops

Meant to block quote those first two lines.

I have to agree with you on the favre

I mean at this point the only thing he is doing and tarnishing his legacy he has a super bowl ring what does he have to prove go home face your wife face your family and work on sunday mornings as an announcer. Now that madden and tony kornhaizer is gone i would say he is ready for the both if those guys are outs. Im tired of brett move on already. and as far as brian waters he did sound pretty much like a dousch i guess thats what happens when you become your own agent you become a snake.

agreed

Something definitely going on there. He tweaked the reporters and took a jab at team communications. Everything he missed is voluntary and he cannot be condemned for it. I just hope he comes in and has another pro bowl year this year….we really need him.

I kinda felt like it was a poke-in-the-eye for Whitlock.

But I do know what you mean about the wincing part. But whose pain were you feeling at that moment? I’d say it was Whitlock’s.

I agree about Whitlock...

His last article seemed very much like a desperate attempt to gain access through slander in a way. He tried to differentiate between teams building through talent or building through secrecy….they can and are both present in the same system. You build through talent under secrecy….to avoid dramatic distractions like him…

Brett Favre is pathetic?

I hate all this hating on Brett Favre. Just because the NFL has become a 12 month season, talking heads keep reporting on non-news and therefore making Brett look like a drama queen. In the past week there has been deadlines imposed and denied, hotel rooms booked, supposed surgeries yada yada yada.

Since he retired he has said nothing and done nothing…everyone else has done all the talking. If he wants to come play football, he has that right. A guy like Brett doesn’t want to end his career with an torn bicep plagued interceptionfest….Vikings are ready to win now and if he is healthy, this will be a win-win situation for both parties.

I'd pretty much agree with that....

…but…
You cannot blame the media entirely for the fiasco that is the Brett Farve saga. Brett IS, after all, the one that has come out in media interviews announcing his intentions the last 2 years and then promptly flip-flopped on them later.

Green Bay did not push Brett out. They got on a plane and flew out to Brett’s house to ask him specifically if he wanted to play the next year. They gave him a month to think about it, but also let him know that they needed plan their draft accordingly. Farve took that month after the initial meeting and then decided he was going to retire.
The Packers drafted 2 QB’s and promoted Aaron Rodgers to starter. They began building their game plan around Rodgers, and moved on as an orginization for the greatness that was the Farve years.
Then Farve decided he wanted to play again. He had been given ample time to make a decision. He assured the team that he wanted to retire. He had held a press conference tearfully announcing his retirement. The team went through the impossible task of replacing a legend and moving forward. THEN Farve announces he wants to come back.

I have enjoyed loved watching Brett play through the years. Yes he is the all time picks leader, but that is to be expected from the all time passing / passing yards / touchdown leader isn’t it? He has been exciting and fun, but most of all when you watch him on the sidelines he seems to really have a lot of fun playing the game. He actually enjoys himself and the game, and that kind of joy and optimism is infectious to the rest of the team.

I’d love to see him come back for another year and make a run for a SB. After all the joy he has brought me as a football fan over the years, I’d love to see him go out a champion (I just wish Jarred Allen didn’t get to come along for the ride).

BUT…. the retired/not retired saga has been a media circus BECAUSE of Farve’s actions, not in spite of them.

Hit it on the head.

The media has been increasingly been wrong about player related issues. They strive for ratings and not objectivity. We viewers being drama hungry, eat up eveything they say not because its true but because its more interesting. Bret Farve loves to play football; whether he can or not, and to say “We all know that he only wants to play for Minnesota to get back at Green Bay.” is wrong. We do not “Know” this. We do not come remotley close to what would be concidered “Knowing” something.

by fishhooks on Jun 11, 2009 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes I do think Brett is pathetic

If I remember he was pretty quiet for a while last year. Then all of a sudden we kept hearing about him throwing the ball around, trying to get some reps in, then he wanted to automatically take over the starting job. It was like the same thing last year. If Brett really doesn’t want to play, then he should jsut come out and say it: “Seriously I’m done with football. I’m not playing football. I don’t want to play anymore.” But he doesn’t say that. You know why? Because he loves the attention. Brett needs to just face the facts: his time is over. He needs to move on.

That's great if you like him - I have no problem with that

But I do believe that he is just doing this for the attention. He still holds a grudge against Green Bay and he needs to let it go. The only reason that he wants to play for Minnesota is to get back at the Packers. I think it’s just sad.

In my opinion

Does he hold a grudge against the Packers? No
Will he enjoy beating them more than any other team? You bet!

The truth noone knows whats going on inside his head. The point I was making is I get tired of people poo-pooing his good name, simply because they are sick of him.

Craig, I see where you are coming from and I respect your opinion

There is no doubt in my mind that he’s a great QB. One of the greatest to ever play the game. But I disagree with you on the point about people tarnishing his good name. He had plenty of time after the 07 season to decide on his future. When he announced his retirement, the coaches/manager had begged him to come back. He said no. Then they went on with their plans. But then he came back and said he wanted to play. GB told him they had moved on and then he threw a fit. He kept bad mouthing the organization and that’s when I think he tarnished his legacy.

It somewhat reminds me of when Joe Montana joined the Chiefs after he’d been told that Steve Young would start in SF after Joe had been injured.

The difference is that Joe was classy about it, and didn’t make a big spectacle of it, and joined a team in a different conference, kicking SF’s tail quietly and without all the fanfare. He’s still a legend in SF, I can’t say that will be the case for Brett in GB after it’s all said and done. I still enjoy watching Brett though.

You can't compare Joe to Brett

This is the internet age and the age of the 12 month football season. Trust me, the same made up stories and half truths would have been said about Joe that are being said about Brett now. If people want to gripe about last off season, I get it. He did flip flop – last year. This year he has said nothing. There is speculation because of the surgery and whatnot, but alot of this “Favreapalooza” is a media creation.

You are right - you can't compare Joe and Brett

Joe never held the 49ers hostage becasue of that situation. He was pretty quiet about it and he took it like a man. Brett pouted his way out of it. He acted like a child. Nevermind the internet age – Joe was a class act for any age.

It is different entirely...

Brett retired, that was his choice…The team moved on. Joe was no longer dependable to the 49ers and they traded him…there is no comparison whatsoever.

I've felt the need, myself, to take a step back from personal/professional situations.

You can get to the point where you know things aren’t on the up-tick, and know that SOMEthing needs to change. And a New York Minute after you take that step back, you start to missin’ what you took that step back FROM. Trouble is, there are some things you take a step back from that require others to make other plans (Aaron Rodgers), and you can’t expect folks to keep a spot open for you. Doesn’t mean you won’t take it hard when you aren’t exactly invited back. Human nature to feel that way, even though it ain’t realistic to expect the world to change on account of how you feel about things.

I always thought that Favre was BETTER than folks said, when he was a loose cannon in Atlanta, and I always thought his success in Green Bay was more about Brooks, Freeman, Chewie, and Reggie White than it was about him. He had the complete tool kit as a QB, but that counts for little in terms of championships without dominant play from the guys making the catches. He threw into a LOT of doubleteams, and a fair percentage of his HOF numbers are the result of great catches that 99.99997385% of the rest of the human species couldn’t have made.

And Favre still has as much of the toolkit as he needs. Still moves well, and understands the game. Time will tell on the long ball. Smellway pretty much lost the ability to make the insane run right throw deep left play, but his total grasp of the game was enough. But Favre’s a waste of time if you don’t have a dominant pair of wideouts who’ll let you get away with throwing at the doubleteam.

The Hills??

I can only assume you watch that show since you are comparing Favre’s drama to that of the show. I guess we all have that “side” to us that make us want to watch crap. Mine is American Idol. Anyone else?

The side effects of Viagra include:

Affects the way you see certain colors, most notably blues and greens. Brett is going to have trouble playing against the Packers this year, assuming he plays. Since the male performance drug makes the world around you appear blueish or purpleish, those Packers jersey’s are going to blend in with those of his teammates. This could easily explain why he leads the NFL in interceptions. Someone should point this out to Childress

What most are forgetting

Yeah, Farve wants to go to the Vikings so he can show GB up two games a season. He might even still have the skills to be a pro bowler I don’t know nor to I care. The problem is this, He seems so pissed at the GB organization that he forgot one very Major thing…What about all those Packer fans that supported him over all those years? From the football perspective Yes he was one hell of a QB, but why does he insist on pissing all over his supporters? They sat in that cold ass stadium on those wooden planks supporting him even when he was having an off game. It would be like TG going to Denver just so he could rub Chiefs fans nose in the shit. If he wants to play again that’s fine but go to a different division or something so the fans don’t suffer. I know many people here in Mississippi were packer fans because of him, last year they were jets fans, but that’s a home town thing Those loyal Packers fans are the ones that are getting screwed by all of this and most will never be a Farve fan again.

is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

I guess I didn't catch any of the "getting back at Green Bay" remarks by Favre.

I just see a guy who’s wishy-washy about retirement. What did I miss, KC Fanatic?

by hmills110 on Jun 14, 2009 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the argument is that if he just wanted to play

he could have done so in New York. He does seem to have an almost unhealthy desire to play for the Vikes (granted, he does know the offense, etc.) Seriously, who doesn’t think the guy should retire? He is exactly 5 days younger than me, and I am pretty sure I couldn’t still be slinging it in the NFL! :)

by TheQ on Jun 14, 2009 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was pretty clear he wasn't going very far in NY.

Besides, at his age, Mangini’s firing bodes ill for NYJ’s short-term chances, even if he SHOULD have been fired. I don’t see NYJ as a good situation for Favre after last year’s meltdown.

I thought he moved pretty well, and, if he gets the arm doing what it’s supposed to, QB looks like one of very few missing pieces for that MN team to make some noise. Not that I’m a Minnesota fan, especially since mullet-head went there. Only good thing about Minnesota is they weren’t good enough to beat the Chiefs in the SB.

by hmills110 on Jun 17, 2009 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

New York is a tough place to play

but I think his arm finally showed signs of “weakness” the last 6 games or so of last season. So why should we feel he can compete at a high level for a complete 16 game schedule this year? Platoon QB system? Favre would never go for that. I like Favre, but I see this as a last grab for glory, and a “tiny” bit of a vendetta against GB. The purple shirts are just not that cool!

by TheQ on Jun 19, 2009 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The arm was definitely a problem.

And if it’s the same injury as Elway’s, then it’ll take a little zip off his passes. Elway actually threw with better touch after he resolved the same injury. I think Favre definitely wants to retire on a winning note, and MN is his one remaining shot.
