''He says he'd take care of me if he was younger?'' Crowder said. ``I'd have beat the hell out of that big old joker. Or if he really wants to get retro, my daddy or my uncle could have handled him. Don't get big. Win with preparation? Start watching some tape and learn who your rival is. Come on now.''

Miami Dolphins' Channing Crowder to Jets coach: `Learn who your rival is' - Breaking News - Sports - MiamiHerald.com

Reason #1 I am glad our head coach rarely speaks to the media. Talk about polar opposites....

That is fairly retarted

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Okay, Im going to go out on a limb here.

You have to think that coach Ryan knows better than to talk smack about a rival player. I mean…Seriously.
I am also going to agree about the AFC EAST. Miami won the division and until someone unseats them, they are the division champs and the road to the East does go through Miami.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Jun 10, 2009 11:38 AM CDT reply actions

Untill Miami...

gets some consistancy they can’t be taken seriously. Yes they made a HUGE turnaround in 1 year.

Being that New England has consistantly had winning teams over the past decade and Tom Brady is back this year… The road to the East does go through New England… they are the team to beat in the East.

by ravenhawk on Jun 10, 2009 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

You don’t take the best quarterback this decade out of the equation when considering the East.

by Joel Thorman on Jun 10, 2009 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree completely.

Thats like saying that the Steelers aren’t actually the best team in football even though they just won the SB.
Just like the Steelers are the Champs until someone unseats them, The phins own the East until that title is taken from them. Think about this: What if the Chiefs won the division and someone said that the road to the West goes through San diego just because they have been the most consistent team this decade. That would seriously piss off us as fans and everyone else involved in the Chiefs organization.
Things change in the NFL otherwise we could just sit here and name next years champions right now and they could just not play next season. That is why they play the game.
I am definitely NOT saying the Dolphins will win the division this year because I don’t think they will but, they ARE the AFC East Champs until that title is taken from them and for right now, the road to the East DOES go through Miami.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Jun 10, 2009 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions

You can say the Dolphins are the team to beat in the East if you want.

But with Brady back, I’m willing to bet the reality will be that the Pats are the team to beat in that division.

by RedNose on Jun 10, 2009 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

I didnt say they were the team to beat...

I said they are the division champs and… they are.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Jun 10, 2009 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe you are right...

Rex Ryan should lower the standard and go for the Dolphins.

by ravenhawk on Jun 10, 2009 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions

I think its hilarious...

I’m glad that we have something like this to talk about in June. Don’t think for a second that Ryan doesn’t know who Crowder is…that was just a big sign of disrespect…God I love smack talk!

Miami will NOT make the playoffs

They had the softest of softball opponents last year. They may be in the running early but they will get pounded late.

@ Atlanta 1:00 PM

I say the lose this game. (0-1) Atlanta is better and at home. Tony G will eat them up.

2 Mon, Sep 21 Indianapolis Fail. (0-2)

3 Sun, Sep 27 @ San Diego Toss up. They’ll be desperate. (1-2)

4 Sun, Oct 4 Buffalo 4:05 PM B-Lo is worse than the Dolphins. (2-2)

5 Mon, Oct 12 NY Jets 8:30 They will probably split with NY. (3-2)

6 BYE WEEK Fins will be feeling pretty good at the bye. They are about to get bitch slapped.

7 Sun, Oct 25 New Orleans Drew Brees is sick. (3-3)

8 Sun, Nov 1 @ NY Jets 1:00 Like I said, a split. (3-4)

9 Sun, Nov 8 @ New England 1:00 Brady. No wild cat games this year. (3-5)

10 Sun, Nov 15 Tampa Bay TB is rebuilding. (4-5)

11 Thu, Nov 19 @ Carolina No contest. (4-6)

12 Sun, Nov 29 @ Buffalo B-Lo still sucks. (5-6)

13 Sun, Dec 6 New England Nope. (5-7)

14 Sun, Dec 13 @ Jacksonville Toss up. On the road so no. (5-8)

15 Sun, Dec 20 @ Tennessee Road. Tenn. No win. (5-9)

16 Sun, Dec 27 Houston They will be eliminated but are at home. (6-9)

17 Sun, Jan 3 Pittsburgh Steeler reserves kick their ass. (6-10)

That my friends is what happens when a shitty team improves, gets an easy schedule, gets cocky and then gets a hard dose of reality. There are some tougher calls on here but I am printing this out and keeping it to compare at the end of the season. I think they finish no better than 8-8.

It happens all the time

teams have a surprising season and then drop to 6-8 wins the following season.

I don’t think Miami is a bad, I think they are good for about 6 or 7 wins. I don’t think they are better than the Pats, Colts, Titans, Steelers, Saints or Falcons. I think they will lose those games and lose to the Pats twice.

Paddy

by Patrick Allen on Jun 10, 2009 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

Also

Crediting them for 6 wins is pretty good, I also mentioned I think they can win at most 9. To say they can win 9 or 10 means I think they are a playoff team, and with their schedule I just don’t think that. I could be wrong. If they make the playoffs this year I will think they are for real.

I never really believe a team is solid until they can make the playoffs in consecutive years. Especially when two years ago that team only won 1 game.

If the Dolfins CAN'T win twice against the Patriots...

then the road to the East would most definitely have to go through the Patriots

by ravenhawk on Jun 10, 2009 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Their win over the Pats last year

was a fluke itself. They won because Cassel was getting his legs under him and because they unveiled the Wild Cat.

I credit them, it was a brilliant move and when you have to play a team like the Pats twice a year you need to do some tricky shit.

What happened the next time they played? When Cassel was sitting comfy at the helm?

48-28 Pats.

I like the Dolphins

They have a tough division that got a lot tougher in the offseason and I also agree they need to show they are solid. However there is no need to knock them as a fluke just yet. Saying the road goes through NE is insulting. If we win the division next year because we made progress and everyone just shakes it off as a fluke, I’d be pissed, and I’m just a fan, not one of the players working to turn things around. The way I see it is NE has been on top for a long time and when you are on top, there’s only one way to go. The AFC East will be fun to watch this year. I love the smack talk.

There's always next week,,, and when we run out of weeks, there's always next year!

I think the BIG difference betwee the Dolfins and Chiefs(if they won the AFC WEST)

Is the fact that New England has been a dynasty over the past decade. In this time they have not really regressed… It is expected that a 16-0 team will go 11-5 the following year. Look at the AFC West,11-5 would have won the division… and11-5 wins the division half of the time last year. There is no signs of waning from this team as they are solid. If the Dolphins win this year then that could be a change.

The Chargers have been the team to beat for many years now… each year the team has dropped more and more games. This team is in a major decline. If the Chiefs turn it around this year and WIN the division, that shows that a changing of the guards occured.

There is no changing of the guards.. YET

(this coming from someone that was ridiculed… saying the Dolphins were going to the playoffs before Pennington was signed)

Note: I hate NE and Tom Brady…y

Guess How Many

Teams with winning records the Dolphins beat last year?

2.

The Pats. And the Jets.

And the Jet’s only had a winning record because they played the same crap teams Miami played.

The teams that the Dolphins beat last year had a combined record of 63-97.

Take away the Pats and the Jets? 43-85!

So other than the Jets and the Pats, who were playing the same crappy teams, the only team with a winning record that Miami even PLAYED was the Ravens. And the Ravens beat them in the regular season and in the playoffs.

Not to mention New England won as many games as the Dolphins did last year. So the road DOES go through New England. Climbing out of the cellar to finishes with the same record as the team that has been dominating your division for years, and to get into the playoffs on a lame, tiebreaker technicality, does not make you the team to beat. It at most, makes you a worth challenger to the Patriots.

I don’t blame them for being confidant but they better be careful. Winning is fleeting in the NFL and it takes seriously polished organizations; see the Steelers and Pats, to win consistently.

The only thing the Dolphins have proved is that they can win the games they are supposed to win and that they can’t really compete with real Super Bowl contenders like the Ravens. If they come out whipping ass and prove me wrong this season, I will be a believer.

Until then I am very skeptical.

Let me also add, I am pulling for them. I hate the Pats and if the Dolphins can pull it off, it will make me feel better about the Chiefs.

I think the ball lies in Ronnie Browns hands...

if he can run the ball and get the running game going like he did last year(with out injuries) they should do well. This will help out Chad Pennington tremendously.

The problem… I don’t think Ronnie Brown has much left in the tank.

by ravenhawk on Jun 10, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

The Ravens

The Ravens shut the Fins down twice last year. don’t think every defensive coordinator that plays them this year isn’t studying those games in their sleep.

If the Fins intend to keep running the WC they are going to need a lot of new wrinkles.

I don't disagree with you about the quality of the Phins team...

All I am saying is that the division Champ is still the division champ until that title is taken from them.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Jun 10, 2009 1:22 PM CDT reply actions

Same thing can be said about the Patriots

… untill the Dolphins take away the title of DYNASTY away from New England then the Dolphins can claim to be the team to beat.

Dynasty trumps division champ

It will be interesting

to watch what happens in NE as Brady starts to decline. They are so good about plugging their holes. I’m scared Bill will be their head coach till he dies.

I was a fan of Kevin O'Connell

I wanted us to draft him in the 5th…I think most people projected him to go in the 5th or 6th round. And guess what, the Patriots drafted in Round 3!

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

YES IT WILL

In the 90’s the Kansas CIty Chiefs were the team to beat(without a Super Bowl). They were the winningest team during this time, and now they have declined.

Hopefully we have hit rock bottom and it has appeared that we have.

i kinda like ryan..

..granted the dude has the biggest mouth and a game has yet to be played, but as soon as he became head coach he went after belichek. it’s like that movie ‘big stan’ where schneider beats up the craziest mofo in prison just get respect. again, a game has yet to be played and the old adage of ‘speak quietly and carry a big stick;’ but ryan believes his own hype as a defense guru e.g. ravens, forever, and believes he’s the king. i like it, adds some flavor to some rivalry. it seems like the west’s rivalries are all but dead. you know there’s gonna be some intense games played when the jets show up
