Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Sets Assist High In Easy Win Over Sacramento

But I just don't see many good pass rushers here. Tamba Hali did a nice job opposite Jared Allen, but by no means is he a top option. Plus, he is changing positions in the new scheme, even though he is best suited as a 4-3 defensive end. Hali managed only three sacks last year -- and I see him as the Chiefs' best pass-rusher.

Chiefs' weakness: Edge pass rush - AFC West - ESPN

Wow...I know this might be the case but it's crazy to think that Tamba Hali might be our best pass rush option in '09.

But I think

he could be our “predator” guy on obvious rushing downs and i could see him flushing the QB out a forcing a bad throw or getting the sack.

Here's to...

Drafting Sergio Kindle next year

I'm counting on Dorsey to step up

If we have him playing a 3-tech, which I suspect he will, we might see some real production out of him.

No one slap me for this

but what exactly does it mean to play 3-tech, 2-tech or whatever.

I have seen at least one variation on this...

but I follow the technique numbering system developed by Bear Bryant.

In this picture, the circles are O-Linemen and the numbers tell a D-Lineman where to be positioned before the play starts. So, a 3-technique puts Dorsey on the outside shoulder of a guard.

As a side note, Hali had a lot of success lined up in 9-tech at Penn State, which is where he will be lined up in our 3-4, and why I think he will have a breakout season (assuming he can control most TEs and shows a modicum of ability in pass coverage.

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

ah well

We’ve kind of gone over this ad nauseum and there is no telling until they step on the field against live opponents but it just seems like the front 7 will be a better unit this year. I’m not nearly as concerned about sack count as run stoppage. One follows the other. But I have to agree with him that next years draft is likely to be heavy on linebackers.

Agree…I’d be much more concerned with what the author thinks is Denver’s weakness (the front seven).

Hopefully, this year our defense will be able to actually force the other team to pass (sometimes I get the feeling that people don’t think our absolutely horrendous run defense impacted our stunning 10-sack performance last season.)

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Just getting rid of Herm improved this team

Players now know they have to work hard to keep their job, they know the coach isn’t going to tell them good try when they mess up on a play. We don’t seem to have any stand out pass rushers but I think the sacks will come from all over the field (or at least I hope so).

Maybe the front office an coaching staff knows something no one else knows?

Coming into this offseason it wouldnt take a genius to figure out our biggest weakness because we put ourselves in the record book for it. We hire Pioli, whos comes in with the most hype surrounding a GM that the league has seen in ages and maybe for good reason, I guess we’ll find out. But Pioli has done very little about it. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he must somewhat know what he’s doing and like I said it wouldnt take the smartest GM to see what we needed to upgrade. But the question is why didn’t he do anything? I highly doubt he is just neglecting it or saying “oh well we’ll fill those holes next year”. I know there were alot of holes to fill but they didnt even draft a pass rusher with any pick. So this front office and coaching staff are either clueless or they know something that the rest of us dont. I’m going to guess its the latter.

This is what I was saying

going into the draft. Apparently the powers that be felt that getting true 3-4 DEs was a bigger need. I’m guessing that they feel that stopping the run is step one to fixing the defense and the pass rush is step two. I’ll trust their judgement for now, but the pass rush is the biggest ? on this team in my opinion.

Ten sacks in a season! For crying out loud that's what I used to average per game using DT in Tecmo Bowl!

For what it's worth

Tamba has a good motor and mobility and playing twenty pound lighter, not getting worn down wrestling bigger linemen will help him. I think he will be quicker and I think he will do well as a LB. I have a bit of concern about coverage but he won’t he in that often I think. I think the formation will help.
