The Great Joe Montana And The Kansas City Chiefs (via geepez)

There is so much great footage in this video that you have to watch it before the NFL pulls it down. That 1993 Chiefs-Oilers playoff game is one of my favorite Chiefs' games of all-time.

What is so amazing

about that last pass he throws to beat the Donkeys is that he had NO TIME to do it. if you watch, as soon as he sees Davis he just throws the ball and throws it perfectly. If he waits even half a second that window closes. The guy was a stud.

After watching that

I’m thinking about taking back my claim that I wouldn’t re-do the Montana trade. What a player.

REGRETS TO GEORGE BRETT BUT THERE'S NEVER, EVER BEEN A WINNER IN THIS TOWN LIKE JOE MONTANA

Thanks Chris for coverage of the Chiefs best years in the modern era.

Just playing the devils advocate,

the Royals got a championship with Brett, no trophy from the Montana years, sorry.

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

I was in college, 2 buddies and I drove to Buffalo for the AFC championship that year.

What a horrible day that was. Cold!

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

What I would give to have a team that stacked again

three hall of famers on the same team… ugh

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Yeah!

They called me the White Thunder. I was a safety.

It cool though cause my Marcus allen jersey I have had since junior high never goes out of style.

Actually

come to think of it in 93 I was 10 years old. Damn. That means Joe is 53. You guys still think he can play?

Paddy

by Patrick Allen on May 7, 2009 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't forget about

the guys like Alt, Grunhard, N.Smith, Anders, Carter and Shields that are legends to anyone that was a KC fan during the 90’s. Part of the reason Allen was so great for us was that he had Anders lead-blocking.

That whole team was stacked with talent.

Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...

Whats up fellas!

I have been away a while have I missed much? Joe cool, he had so much poise in the pocket, he did not get rattled too much.

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

I Still Get Chills

watching that 1994 Denver/KC Chiefs Game. That is the best game I have ever seen in my life. I remember thinking that when I saw it and I still believe it now.

Beat the Donkeys!!

I'm so there with you.

We were such a balanced team back them. Montana, Allen, Grunhard, Alt, Shields, Willie Davis, Kimble Anders, JJ Birden, N. Smith, Saleamua, D. Thomas, my god that list goes on and on and on. Those were awesome seasons to watch. The Chiefs were talented players with so much heart that were all about the team.

That line that Madden says where Montana was so good that he knew they were going to do it, the team knew, the players on the side lines knew, the fans knew and then the opposing team knew. Damn. That just brings it home.

I want a return to that form. New players, but that caliber. As Derick put it, I want to Believe. Or was that Fox Moulder?

Those old orange uniforms make me furious.

Sometimes I forget just how many players from Denver that I hate with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns.

by NCChiefs on May 7, 2009 2:31 PM CDT reply actions

Same here

I never really realized it until watching that video for the 4th time while stuck at work, those orange unis just really piss me off at the mere sight of them, regardless of the player/person wearing them at the time.

I'm not sure

if I hate Elway or Romanowski more. Thinking about either of those two gets me fired up.

by JComp11 on May 7, 2009 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Gotta be Elway

There are some pretty intense feelings about ol’ Romo but Horseface takes the cake, hands down. I don’t even think I could be paid enough money just to eat dinner with John Elway.

There's a little trick...

to download videos like this through Mozilla.

There is so much great footage in this video that you have to watch it before the NFL pulls it down.

Search for “Cache Viewer” on google and download the app from Mozilla. Clear you cache and refresh the page. When the video finishes loading you should be able to click “CacheViewer” in the tools. For videos it’s generally the largest file (sort by size). Click “Save As.” To watch, download VLC Player.

by JComp11 on May 7, 2009 2:41 PM CDT reply actions

Thanks

I use the downthemall extension too for that stuff.

by Chris Thorman on May 7, 2009 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Sweet.

Never heard of that one. I use cache viewer mainly for music. Works for MySpace and Playlist but not Pandora.

TRADE JOE MONTANA
was on a bill board during his first season with KC. I remember going home to visit my folks and on the way thru KC I see that bill board and was puzzled. When I arrived at my parents house I asked my brother about it and he said it was intended as a take off on trading cards, in other words trade your 49ers Montana for a Chiefs Montana. I have no idea if that was correct but it seamed pretty catchy.

Can I just say with this Farve thing and the Vikings I am sick and tired of the Farve/Jets highlight with KC (I prefer the highlight KC vs GB interception of Farve in OT).

by BCRavenJHawkfan on May 7, 2009 4:24 PM CDT reply actions

I hope Cassel can bring

the same hope to KC that Montana did. Deep down in my gut I think he has.

Buddy Ryan and DT

One thing I remember was Buddy Ryan saying Joe would probably get carried off the field and Derrick Thomas saying they’d carry Warren Moon off right behind him.

by FrankPitts on May 7, 2009 5:07 PM CDT reply actions

How many times was Moon sacked in that game?

7? 9?

by Rev. Slappy on May 7, 2009 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Sacked 9 times

Montana threw for 299 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs.

Here’s the box score.

by Joel Thorman on May 7, 2009 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

So many thoughts on that video

One, should we have taken a lesson out of that and taken one of the OT’s with our first pick to protect our new quarterback? Two, did you see Thomas blow the hell out of that double team like it was nothing in that Oilers game? Three, I wish I was older when Montana came along so that I really understood what I was getting to watch. Four, Willie Davis is still one of my favorite Chiefs players ever. And lastly, don’t you miss the glory days? Whew. I hope we can get back there soon. And lastly, I have never been on the “Bring Marty back” bandwagon, but that video makes you want him to come back.

Great Time!

I was at the Pittsburgh game. Super cold day, both the weather and the Chefs…Montana too. They pulled him at the end of the 1st half and Dave Kreig threw a bomb to put us on the board. The thing I remember about the Houston game was Keith Cash spiking the ball on the Buddy Ryan banner. That was sweet…sure sucked getiing creamed by the Bills the next week though.

by Kane on May 7, 2009 9:05 PM CDT reply actions

that Bills game

If we hadn’t lost some of our starters we could have won that game and went to the SB. Can’t remember who all we lost but i know Montana and Dale Carter a game or 2 before
