I think it's completely messed up that the Chiefs have to wear these things when they play the Cowboys. The team from Kansas City will be wearing helmets celebrating the location of the team they're playing against. As if Cowboys fans don't think they're superior enough, now the NFL is making the opposition honor them.

How many times must I say

this ISN’T celebrating the city of Dallas! And guess what? It isn’t celebating Kansas City. It is celebrating the old AFL teams. The Chiefs used to be the Texans. It is where the team came from. They are honoring Lamar! Do you not want them to honor Lamar? His team? His team just became the KC Chiefs. It isn’t a knock on Kansas City!!! The CAME to Kansas City. They LEFT Dallas.

This is such a foolish thing to be upset about. If it wasnt for the Dallas Texans there wouldn’t BE a Kansas city Chiefs for you to root for. Think about that.

they were the texans

for a whole 2 YEARS, thats it, why celebrate that?

They are celebrating the AFL

No texans, no Chiefs. No Lamar possibly no AFL. They are honoroing our organization and its roots.

And in doing so

We are consequently forced to wear helmets that rep the home state of our opponents. Opponents who just happen to think they’re better than the rest of the world for nothing more than being from Texas. They labeled themselves “America’s Team,” their Governor has threatened to secede from the Union because they’re just that special, and we get to play them AT Arrowhead wearing helmets with Texas on the side.

How does that notseem wrong to everyone? I wouldn’t even be quite as opposed to wearing them for pretty much any other non-divisional game, the fact that we’re wearing them when we play Dallas is my biggest problem with the whole thing. I loved Lamar just as much as anyone else that knew how much he meant to the game and the Chiefs but I’ll be damned if I’m going to support a shot of steroids to the already-bloated ego of all Dallas’ fans. I’ll be at that game and I’m not going to pout over it but I have a feeling it’s going to be very awkward and not incredibly pleasant seeing the Kansas City Chiefs take the field in helmets that are an unavoidable, if unintended, celebration of the state of Texas.

Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...

I know...

When we play the SuperBowl in London, in a few years, lets slap the Union Jack on all the helments to honor our roots as a British Colony.

Pfft. This is going to be a debochle…mark my words. I predict this game sets off a true rivalry between Chiefs and Cowboys fans. Nice reasoning though.

I think you hit it right on the head. I’m completely flummoxed as to why everyone here seems to have their panties in such a wad over these helmets. It’s not going to be a regular thing, it’s honoring Lamar Hunt, and it’s completely off-the-wall. As long as we don’t bust them out as often as those awful New York Titans unis, I think it’ll look pretty cool. Plus, nobody gives a crap about our team. At least this might draw a little attention.

Also, these helmets aren’t any worse than the New England throwbacks.

by stag on May 7, 2009 1:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Patty!?

I can’t remember if that’s the patriots name but those helmets are by far the worst.

That guy looked like he was about to get it up the A$$!

It is a new Era at Arrowhead. I do not yet know if it is one of greatness or one of ineptitude. I am excited to see which way it goes, and will support my team until the end, bitter or sweet!

This is a complete

Embarrasment for the organization. We should be coming up with new uniforms for the future not going back to the old crappy ones. Why is everyone so obsessed with history?

by Grand Master A on May 7, 2009 12:50 PM CDT reply actions

What if we whip their asses?

How about that. I have said this before. The Chiefs should put on those helets and be proud and kick the shit out of Dallas, show them that the city would have been better off if Lamar and his boys stayed in town!

No I don't want new uniforms

The Chiefs uniforms are great. I don’t want them to come up with some crappy dark red uniform or something… I’d be pissed.

by Vince D on May 7, 2009 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Only change in the uniforms that i would like

is if they wore all red. I think it would look awesome if they werar red pants with red tops and then when they wear whites, they wear wear white pants and white tops and a white helmet.

Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.

by paratrooper on May 8, 2009 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions

What?

New uniforms? KC has one of the best looking, simplest and timeless uniforms in the league. Only the Steelers, Browns, Colts and Bears compare. You want KC to adopt the cartoonish trend that seems to be overtaking the league? If you want modern uniforms with silly graphics and bizzare lines, start supporting the Panthers or Texans or one of the myriad Arena teams.

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

Damn crying shame.

I have my ticket stub from the first preseason game from 2007 on my wall here at work. On it it has the logos from the 8 origional AFL teams and reads “The Foolish Club.” This travesty of a Texans logo is no where to be found, instead we have the Arrowhead as we know it today.

Homers anyone?

I may be the minority, but I agree that honoring history, especially the AFL with the Chiefs wearing their franchise inaugural uniforms is really exciting. Maybe it is because our uniforms have never been modified at all over the last 40 years (adding red pants doesn’t count), for the Chiefs to get any kind of extra attention I am all for it. Why don’t we embrace it, analyzing that the helmet has a different state on it, and crying a river, and getting a petition makes no sense, remember we arent putting Iraq on the helmet, let the players be excited about taking part in some history in the game they play and love. I am driving up from Austin, TX to see the Chiefs beat the Cowboys, the throwback uniforms only add more excitement.

Once again, it was Lamar Hunt who started the AFL.

It was Lamar Hunt who started the Dallas Texans in HIS hometown of Dallas. It was Lamar’s league, Lamar’s team, and Lamar had the foresight to move the franchise to Kansas City. What bigger compliment could Lamar Hunt have paid Kansas City? It was his team, he did not have to move it to Kansas City. I don’t understand why anyone would have a problem with this. Geeez get a life.

I'm so sick of hearing about this.

It’s really pathetic, there is no disgrace in honoring the past. We simply aren’t honoring the Cowboys or Texas. We are honoring the past of this organization and the AFL. Seriously, get over it.

With us having started in Texas. That’s what happened. Wear the stupid texas helmet. That’s what we wore. I’ve never seen so many people get so worked up about throwback uniforms.

by NCChiefs on May 7, 2009 2:36 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, but...

It will be a great experience to see KC wearing the texas state logo on their helmets when they crush the Cowboys.

by KChiefs on May 7, 2009 3:08 PM CDT reply actions

The Hunts are from Texas-----

and the Hunts own the team so the Hunts are getting their way. Old uniforms are cool, it’s just too bad they had to include the state shape, and with that blasted star besides. I wonder what loser artist (???) designed that logo anyway. Oh well—-they aren’t going to change their minds. Have the first year KC uniforms been used yet?

by route 66 on May 7, 2009 6:28 PM CDT reply actions

Sometimes a helmet is just a helmet

All the other NFL teams have done their throwback uniforms including the first KC team. Personally I’m Proud of My Chiefs! I’m very glad Mr. Hunt Chose to bring his team out of Dallas and into Kansas City. Forget the looks of things, celebrate the fact that it is your Chiefs that are the focus of the 50th of the AFL Personally I think it’s great to look back on the teams history, I have in my collection a few but honored AFL championship things my team won. To get upset of the look of the old helmet for a one game thing is just suck an “Al Davis move” get over it and support the team.

is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

by KC Fanatic on May 7, 2009 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

What can we do about this?

Obviously many people are upset, so let’s take action! I hate Texas, but love the Chiefs. If we want to honor a league, put a patch on, but it appears we want to give visual shout-outs to Dallas! Is Clark trying to move the team back to Texas? San Antonio Chiefs? Why not honor our ONLY championship team, and as far as the talk about if there was not the AFL and the Dallas Texans, we would not have the Chiefs. Take a look at Dallas, Miami, Minnesota, Atlanta, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Carolina, Baltimore, and Houston! All NFL expansion teams. KC would definately have recieved a team! Let’s tell the Chiefs, the Hunts, and Pioli and the gang that we are behind them, BUT we will not stand for this slap in the face. Start the petition, hang the posters, WHERE DO I SIGN?

by Baldock1 on May 8, 2009 7:51 AM CDT reply actions

First off, don't lose sight of the fact that wearing the throwbacks is an honor.

It is an honor to be the first team of the AFL, and eventually AFC, regardless of where that team originated or what the helmets looked like at the time. The NFL as we know it, as well as the resulting NFC vs. AFC championship system, exists only because one man had the dream to start a competing league to the NFL. This is really about honoring that one man’s dream. However, it must be viewed as more than that as no single aspect of the birth is isolated. It is really about honoring the league, the team, and the man that started it all. That means above all others, the 50th anniversary honors the AFL, the Dallas Texans and Lamar Hunt.

As far as honoring the AFL goes, you are right that can be done with a patch. Honoring the Dallas Texans requires a little more. What better way to honor them than to have the modern-day team wear the original uniforms? Honoring the Man is accomplished by fulfilling his wish to have to have his Texans play the Cowboys. He really wished for this matchup and was neglected on the grounds that it would validate the “spin-off league.” This is an apology of sorts by league vindicating Hunt for his efforts half a century ago.

KC would definately have recieved a team!

They may have, but the team that would have landed here would not be so intricately tied to the history of the NFL and would not carry the significance it does. Further, do you suppose that the name “Chiefs” was selected, in part, because of the antithetical relationship to the name “Cowboys,” the name of the team that the NFL used to essentially muscle Lamar out of Dallas?

I hope you can agree with the above, so perhaps your only qualm is the state of Texas on the helmet. To which I would ask: What good does it serve to deny your history? Wouldn’t we come off looking like revisionisists? arrogant?

Here is a picture from the classic photo contest of Lamar and his son (probably Lamar Jr.). How can you deny the honesty and significance of the helmets?

p.s. Don’t Forget to Vote for This.

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
