May 2009 Todd Haley Approval Rating
When you bring on a general manager like Scott Pioli, it's easy to overlook a first time coach like Todd Haley. Pioli is the veteran executive who has a specific plan in place for success. It's easy to let a guy like Haley fall to the side a bit, as we assume Pioli is making all of the final decisions.
And right now, Pioli probably is making all of the final decisions. I'm sure there is some cooperation going on but Todd Haley, as a first time head coach, is more than likely deferring a lot to Pioli in the Kansas City Chiefs' decision making. At least for right now.
Regardless, here are some stories over the last month involving Todd Haley:
- Anquan Boldin said he wouldn't mind playing for Haley
- Pioli and Haley sat down before the draft and talked about their game plan
- Talked about the team's first mini-camp of the off season
- Talked about the Tony Gonzalez trade
Let's hear it Chiefs fans. Do you approve of the job Todd Haley is doing as head coach?
April 2009: 69%

I put unsure
From all the interviewsI have seen pioli has done most of the talking. And the only thing I have noticed from hailey is he looks like a skinny younger version of homer simpson . who hasnt slept in about 12 days woke up on a pile of coke and got dressed to go to a press conference. Only to sit there and let pioli talk and once in a great while the camera turns in his direction he looks up from his bong and says ." Ya that sounds about right ". Im not to impressed with his talking skills but who knows maybe he is more action then talking . Either way I dont give a fuck as long as he keeps his bong and coke away from the players im all for this guy as long as we win.

“And the only thing I have noticed from hailey is he looks like a skinny younger version of homer simpson who hasnt slept in about 12 days woke up on a pile of coke and got dressed to go to a press conference”

he is for sure but maybe he knows his shit im praying that he does
I can remember the cards against the eagles in the playoffs his first half offense game plan was so on point . It really made me believe in this guy . Even when the shouting match was going off i couldent help but think does boldin even see what this guy is calling for the team to run they are dominating shut the fuck up let the guy call the game. hailey knows what the fuck he is doing when it comes from the x and the o . But my concern is can he keep this team together.

He'll be alright
Maybe the thing I like most about Haley and Pioli is that they’ve both had some of the best mentors in the game teaching them the nuts and bolts of how to lead teams to super bowls. You can’t ask for much more than that.

Need to see on-field product
Before I pass judgment on Haley, I need to see the on-field product. I am a little nervous that he doesn’t seem to know much about defense (saying Jackson was going to play a 5-technique on the weak side in a 3-4 defense). Pioli has been working on getting him the personnel, b ut I have to see if Haley can put a game plan together (and win games) before I approve or disapprove of him as a head coach.

If LJ is why you go to chiefs games...
You won’t be a chiefs fan much longer

Always be a Chiefs fan.
LJ wont make or brake me being a fan.. But I figure I spend almost 8,000$ a year in tickets / hotel/gas, (not the easiest for a 23 year old to come up w/ each year) and 8 hours, 900+ Miles per trip, Its hard to do all of that just to see them loose week in and week out. You cant deny, LJ’s problems aside, he puts fans in the stands, and gives us a better chance to win.. Last year was a tough time to be a season ticket holder. The difference of attitude in the stands between every other game, vs. the Denver game (only one we won at arrowhead last year) was amazing. Who won that game for us? Gonzo? Thigpen? , I forget who it was that had 2 TD’s and almost 200 yds that game… Oh ! it was LJ. Thats right. Vintage LJ, the one I’m sure NO ONE was badmouthing on this site in 2006.

Heh…I was badmouthing LJ before KC even drafted him, not that it’s important right now.

I hope Pioli/Haley
have learned from the people that taught them but some people don’t learn no matter how much you try. I know NE wouldn’t trade a guy like Tony without having someone to replace him with, and so far we have nobody. And before anyone says Engram he has only 1 season with over 1000yds. I will have Pioli pride till he shows me I shouldn’t.

Like Chiefs4Life,
I can’t really judge Haley until I see the on-field product.

I said yes...
but that may change with the start of the season. I can only evaluate what he’s done up until now. The dumping of Will Franklin really broadened my respect for Haley. He’s an asshole of the grandest kind. His players will probably hate him but desperately seek his respect.
I just Brian Waters would return and be the professional man we all know him to be. He can return with a chip on his shoulder and play his ass off to prove himself to Pioli/Haley—that’s the best decision he could make right now.

I don’t think it’s realistic to give him any grade or evaluation except “incomplete.” I mean, seriously, the only thing he has coached so far has been a little bit of minicamp. Those who approve or disapprove are probably basing off their initial approval of the hiring.
