Lions Pick Up Another Former Chief

Brian_johnston_medium Eric_hicks_medium Will_franklin_medium

The Kansas City Chiefs waived 2008 draft pick LB/DE Brian Johnston on Wednesday.  He didn't make it far on the waiver list as the Detroit Lions claimed him yesterday.  He was drafted under the Gunther Cunningham defensive regime so it makes sense that that the Lions defensive coordinator is going with what he's familiar with.

This marks the second 2008 draft pick Cunningham and the Lions have picked up from the Chiefs on the waiver wire.

On April 13th, the Chiefs released 2008 4th round pick WR Will Franklin. Just one day later, the Lions picked him up, only to then release him a month later.

Cunningham also raided a former Chief when he opted to pick up defensive Eric Hicks on May 4th.  Hicks played for the Chiefs from 1998-2006.

Who will be the next ex-Chief to become a Lion?

Oh

I just realized you were answering my question at the end of the post :)

Not a bad guess.

lol

Yeah…I just wouldn’t put it past Gun, even though they have some pretty good LB’s. It was either him or I was going to say Dale Carter…haha

I was going to say... Andre Rison

You can’t have enough talented wide recievers on a team.

Wow, the 09 Lions are turning into the 08 Chiefs...

…and sadly that would be a step in the RIGHT direction for them. ;)

they have a pretty difficult schedule.

If they go 2-14 then I will say that they had a successful season.

Sloppy Seonds

Gunther likes our sloppy seconds! HA HA HA

It’s even sadder than watching all the Jets sloppy seconds KC had the past few years, or Rams before that. Seriously, some of these guys were weak links on a really weak team last year, and Gunther wants them? Bah.

Curtis Gatewood

Don’t forget they also picked up Curtis Gatewood back in April.

As to the next Chief they sign I’ll say Patrick Surtain. I’m really kind of surprised he hasn’t been picked up by at team yet.

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
