Googling Red & Gold
Research/boredom/curiousity/unemployment/dweebness has led me to some interesting findings.
You don't have to click on every link, it's only there to prove what I wrote.
Google "Kansas City Chiefs" you find this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Kansas+City+Chiefs&btnG=Search
The first page doesn't have a direct link to AP. It does show the most recent blogs, which we of course are there most of the time, but If someone wants to come to our site to learn about the Chiefs, say our 2009 roster, we would be missed.
AP is found on the second page here:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Kansas+City+Chiefs&hl=en&start=10&sa=N
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google "Chiefs Kansas City" it changes slightly, but still AP is on the second page.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Chiefs+Kansas+City&btnG=Search
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google "Chiefs" and you won't find AP until PAGE 12.
These 19 Chiefs sites are ahead of us. This is an outrage.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Chiefs&btnG=Search - Page 12
www.orlandosentinel.com - with Chiefs news and photos.
kan.scout.com - Home of Warpaint Illustrated I think
www.nfl.com - never heard of it
www.fanhouse.com/category/kansas-city-chiefs/
www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/ - KC Star
www.sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/kan
www.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/chiefs/
www.msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/kansas-city-chiefs
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google "kc chiefs" and AP is 7th on the first page! Woohoo!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google "Chiefs blog" and AP is, you guessed it, #1 on the list. Great job to all those responsible!
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=chiefs+blog&btnG=Search
Dr. Evil even agrees we could take over the world with AP.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Google "Football Blog" and where is AP?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=football+blog&btnG=Search
www.kcchiefsfootball.com is on page 17
There are many NFL team blog sites throughout this search, mostly NE sites and Steeler's sites. There are also tons of college football blog sites as well, although some are most likely soccer sites.
I ran into this site: http://sports.gay.com/ and thought some of you may be interested. Note this came up in the search, and as for AP....well read on.
I also ran into this: femalefan.com, and just thought I would share it with you. Yes, I did it, I joined as i_wuv_my_vagina. All joking aside, this site was in front of AP on this search as well.
After fifty pages it kept repeating itself with the same results, none showcasing AP. How can AP not show up in a "football blog" search?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After starting this I realized there are a lot of different ways to Google Chiefs football. I do believe there are ways to cheat the system and get AP up there higher on all the searches, thus reaching more people. I just don't know how. This is where we come in.
One guess I have would be to change what comes up in Google. Tweak it a tad. Add the word "football". Add "kc". Add "NFL". You get the point.
This is what comes up now:
Arrowhead Pride - An Unofficial Kansas City Chiefs blog
Welcome to SB Nation's Kansas City Chiefs blog! Start posting about the Chiefs "
. Join SB Nation and dive into communities focused on all your favorite ...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my two cents on the subject of maximizing Google's use. I really think it could bring a lot more traffic AP's direction.
So if you're trying to impress friends/family with this obsession of yours. Tell them to Google "Chiefs Blog", and they will see that AP is right there on top - Above ESPN, above SI, and above the Star. They then should understand your obsession as a contributor to a higher cause.
Also, if you've never tried Googling words like this and going through the pages, you can find some entertaining stuff. Although, I assure you, none quite as entertaining as AP. Remember that.Next, Yahoo-ing Red & Gold. Just kidding. Although I'm curious how different it would be.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Allot of that
has to do with with content and external links.
Try kansas city red and gold and you see you are on the first page, and in fact it links to this post.
Meta tags and content on the page also have an effect on the search rating.
so this means simply more content on AP with the words “football, kc, and NFL” will yield higher Googling status? Sweet!

Google does not use meta-tags
I read it online, it must be true

Add w
To maximize google hits the header (which currently reads “[name of fanpost] – Arrowhead Pride”) should read “[name of fanpost] – Arrowhead Pride – An Unofficial Kansas City Chiefs blog”. This simple step should really help. I run a couple of websites and adding terms to my headers bumped me up 10-15 spots on google with the same searches than before. Adding “football” in front of blog might help even more.
Dude, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

It really does make a difference
It explains why there are 19 Chiefs sites ahead of arrowheadpride. I doubt any of the blogs have more traffic than here, but they probably have better/more specific terms in their headers.
+1

That's what I was about to say
Unless I’m wrong, Google works to provide the most popular sites clicked on from searching keywords. All we gotta do is all do our searches and click away :)
If this was the case
Everyone with a website would have sweat shop-like places set up with people clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking and clicking………

That's similar
But people used to pay to put like 5 links to their website on someone else’s site. This way the more links you have on other’s pages the higher your Google Page Rank would be and you would be higher on the list when you searched for certain terms in Google.
Within the last year, Google has revamped their page rank algorithm so that these pages don’t get so much credit.
ehow says
Use keywords often in your content, but not to the point where it becomes spam. The Google-bots will know exactly what you’re doing! Forget about trying to trick them. Just use great content, and high ranking will follow.
Watch out for the Google-bots!

sorry, don’t know why?

Google "Arrowhead" were on page 2
Google “Pride” were on page 9.
(heavy sigh)
Dammit. I need a job.

You guys may not notice
But Chris and I do a lot of little things like this. SEO…Search Engine Optimization. While the content is always aimed at making our point about the Chiefs, the titles and tags are about google.
Search Engine Optimization
Sounds like a piece of software my Dad would buy to try and speed up his computer.
I understand the titles and tags completely. Do you think changing this, or adding other words into this might help?

This may work
I figured out the title can hold 65 to 70 characters for a Google search headline. This is right around 70.
Title says: Arrowhead Pride – NFL Unofficial Chiefs blog – Kansas City Football
It incorporates NFL and Football, which I think are two of the most important. It’s not showing ownership of the NFL, as much as calling us a Chiefs blog doesn’t show ownership to the Chiefs.
IMO this would immediately put us ahead of most of those 19 we are behind.

IMO AP is a site that really needs to be searched for
The 2000 + of us are getting more like an Arkansas family everyday and we will grow as AP grows.
We have no need to bring in all the Riff Raff that the internet provides.
Sorry Chris and Prime but you may get more people and at some point you start losing the foundation.

Sorry
What do the New York and other large pop sites have to do to accomodate so many numbers?
I think that the site would have to increase bandwidth costs and personnel to manage.
Let it grow naturally and the ads and such will offset cost so you can keep your Beer money :)

I tend to agree, Steve-O
The last thing we need is a “Keep up the great work, Coach Edwards” type crowd…
