Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

The Texans signed FB Boomer Grigsby, formerly of the Vikings.

Out of football most of last season, Grigsby, 27, will focus on covering kicks if he makes the roster. Vonta Leach is Houston's starting lead blocker.

If you're looking for a guy to cover kicks

Boomer is your guy. Looking for him to be the next Lorenzo Neal might have been a stretch, but there are few who are better on special teams than Boomer.

We could have used him last year

special teams was horrid. We got retarded with our fullbacks under Herm, throwing in anyone who wanted a chance to start. One of Herm’s biggest mistake was having Carl cut Richardson. Our running game could have used him as could our locker room. Wish that fool would have retired a Chief

But alas, he’s probably glad he’s out of KC

Amen, T Rich still has it.

T-Rich is one of my favorite Chiefs of all time.

I remember the season he got hurt and Coach Vermiel said he had to cut the playbook in half w/o Richardson. He is probably the most unsung hero of the Vermiel era team. Our offense (especially the running game) went downhill fast when he left.

you can say that twice and mean it.

I was shocked when T-Rich was cut as his effort and production as lead blocker hadn’t declined at all and Herm was still going to feature our running game. Alas, off he went and so did the productivity of our running game. But wait you say, LJ had his record carry season in 06 after T-Rich left. True, but his Y/A actually went down, 5.2 —> 4.3, as did his touchdowns (20 —>17). Here’s where I got the stats. Where as you look at Priest in 02 and 03 and the man was a beast.

Now that may be comparing apples to oranges, different runners, styles, abilities, etc. But I fully believe T-Rich was a big part of that and after losing him, our running game just was never quite the same.

I am so tired of this guy

Let him run downfield and make tackles on special teams or whatever. Just never expect anything from him other than that. Grigsby and Sippio are both one dimensional and should be thankful for any day they spend in the league. I’ve never understood how having an interesting (matter of opinion) personality somehow compensates for lack of ability. He can’t be happier to be out of KC than I am to see him gone.

Lack of ability??? I don't think you know a damn thing about Boomer.

Boomer is not only a great guy, he one HELL of a football player. You dont get drafted when your 5’11" and from a small school because you have a “personality”. You get drafted cause you can fucking play ball. Its not his fault Herm is a colossal dunce when it comes to player management in addition to playing favorites. Boomer was NEVER given an opportunity to play HIS position, LB. Herm’s excuse was that in his Tampon 2 boomer lacked the speed and drop skills, so why the FUCK did you draft him Herm? You don’t go making 400 some tackles in college (at any level) without a ton of training and game prep and some natural ability/instinct. So you call that lack of ability??? Especially at Boomer’s size, 5’11" 240. He is basically a Zach Thomas type of guy (small, avg speed, try hard, instinctive) and just never got a chance to play, except special teams which he excels at. Maybe if we put him in on some regular downs he would have made some tackles that pieces of shit like Pat Thomas and Weston Dacus didn’t. People around here, and kansas city, liked Boomer cause he is a hard working midwest kid who has a chip on shoulder and plays every down like its his last.

So don’t say he lacks ability, cause he sure as hell has some.

Special teams guys are good for just that

I’m not saying he’s not a great guy. The rosters of each team is littered with them. I’d rather have a jackass that can do multiple things instead of a good guy that can do one thing. Drafting him was a mistake. If he can make a career like Steve Tasker doing nothing but special teams then more power to him. Sooner or later he will be working construction.

Ok stram.I can see your point. However I would rather have 53 Grigsbies than 53 LJs

You know who he reminds me of? Mike Maslowski…The last true linebacker we had. Linebacker with heart, attitude and work ethic. Don’t get me wrong DJ is ok but he is a “finess player” not a true backer. You want a true backer you throw in a Grigsby or a Foote. Those are your true backers – a littel slow, a little short, a little goofy…but lots and lots of heart, attitude and work ethic. We won 2 games last season….TWO GAMES. How much worse could it have been having Boomer on the team? Or maybe you want more of Siavi? That’s a good pick for you. You never diss heart stram, never.

Maslowski

I still wear his jersey. I remember him and Greg Manusky being referred to as the Polish Infantry. Those were the days…

always enjoy him

probably because of hard knocks, but glad to see he caught on somewhere. Good look Boomer!

My biggest Boomer Grigsby memory is when he was being interviewed by some chic on kcchiefs.com he kept hitting on her the whole time and she was lovin’ every second of it. So every time I see his name I think of that vid and it cracks me up a bit.
