Time to Show Off Your Football Nerd Skills
From the FanPosts. -Chris
I figured since a lot of you really know your stuff around here we should give you a chance to strut it in short.
Those that are humongo fans, but could learn a thing or two (like myself), depend on you football nerds day in and day out to understand the who's, what's, when's, where's and why's.
So in fifty words or less, teach everyone something they may not know about football, the Chiefs, or AP. After reading this we should all become smarter football minds for it.
Here's mine......if you didn't already know:
Rules 2009-10 Season
No overtime change. Brady rule states if on ground you can't pursue player below waste whether in possession of ball or not. Replay now can be used to determine if a loose ball hit the sideline and on loose balls that could be either a fumble or an incomplete pass.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Free Kick Rule
After a fair catch, an NFL team has the right to take a free kick from the line of scrimmage on the next play. If the kick goes through the uprights, the kicking team scores 3 points. It is also known as a “free kick field goal.”
free kick
in a remotely related item… what is the deal with the free kick after a safety?
teams always seem to punt, why wouldn’t they kick off?
Teams Punt becasue of the additional hang time
since they are kicking from poor field position, it is more beneficial to have the hang time to give the coverage team more time to get down and cover the play.
You took my geek
The free kick rule was the first thing that entered my mind when I seen this post on the front page. I click on the link to browse thru the existing posts on this topic, and there it is, first comment. Way to steal my thunder Nelly. By the way I like your music.

AP went over one million page views in April 2009 for the first time ever with 1,073,126. A quick search shows the next closes was Mile High Report with 714,000 and Bleeding Green Nation (Eagles) with 613,000.

So you're saying we are the most rabid fan base
even after winning only 6 games in 2 years. Talk about dedication.
NFL Players are Just Kids, Even When They Are Old Enough to Retire
I always hear people that expect professional athletes to act like adults. I think that is funny. Especially since there has been no call to act responsibly in a nature that most common people (like myself) would understand. They were kids, then they got paid and got to still be kids and now have no financial concerns, like most of us do. Their lives are lived in a vaccum where people throw themselves at you and everyone wants desperately to be your friend, chances are that they grew up one of the cool kids in school and now they still get to live like it and everyone else plays along. So it is always interesting to me when we try to put them in a box with a perspective that they have never been or seen before.
When I was in Middle school...
I did a report on the Nigerian Nightmare Christian Okoye. He came to football from a track and field background and had no idea how the game was played so someone put an arrow on the field so he would know which way the play was run. Not sure how many people know that… Also his favorite singer is/was Tracy Chapmen.

And either right click and “copy image location” or click on the picture itself and get the URL (should end in .jpg or something like that). Then in the comment box above, press the green tree looking thing and paste the URL in there and then post.

You must be using IE
There are two ways how you can do it.
1. Right click on image, click on properties and use the URL from the properties.
2. You can right click and if you see an option of ‘Copy shortcut’ then click on that and then paste here in the comments.
where is the image? Copy the URL in a post for us

Things get tougher then
I could go through on how to “save image as” to your computer, then upload it to image shack or something like that but it’s not really worth it.
Click on picture (if you can, not all of them are like that) and see if it pops up in its own page. Then grab the URL and paste it.

During Gary Stills' stint in Kansas City
He lived right across the cul de sac from my Mom’s house.. Pretty cool dude for the most part. I let him borrow my tool kit to fix his lawnmower (I think). Which is hilarious, because his grass never really grew in. Anyway, that fool never returned my shit!
Can’t say that makes anyone reading smarter, but hopefully you enjoyed it.
I could get more sacks with my sack
It is possible to have final score be 1-0
If a team forfeits the final box score is 1-0
Conversion Safety...
On an extra point, if the defense somehow ends up with the ball and gets tackled with it in their own end zone, the kicking team gets a 1-point safety.
That could never happen.

A-11 offense banned / outlawed
For those that liked the A-11 offense that made such a fuss in HS football last year it is over.
Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJOm-IJcbg0
Announcement:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/highschool/02/15/A11.banned/
This is an offense where you have only have a center and 2 gaurds on O-line (Maybe add a TE / Tackle) But you line up in a punt formation. At the last minute before the snap your other guys step up to the LOS. This is intended to confuse the defense because they don’t have time to read the formation and determine who is or is not an eligible receiver. Also center can direct snap to 2 different people in the backfield or a man in motion. All based on stretching the rules and a system I consider extremely weak from the coaching standpoint. Don’t get me wrong it is a brilliant interpretation of the old rules, but not the right way to compensate for poor coaching on technique and game planning. It’s like the football version of guessing which bowl the ping-pong ball is under on a street corner.
I'm not a smart man
oops!
Forgot to mention that you have to have 7 men on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. This is how they confuse people, only know about 3-4 men on LOS until just before the ball is snapped when the other 3-4 step up and get set.
I'm not a smart man
Looks almost like what Mizzou would throw at other teams...
…twice a game the last few years vs. non-con opponents or weaker Big 12 teams.

Len Dawson = one of the Greatest QBs in History.
I know it is extremely homerish of someone on here to post but everything I am about to say is actually stuff I just read in Sal Paolantonios book The Paolantonio Report. He opts to compare Len to someone who is widely considered one of the greatest in Joe Montana….Here are the comparisons:
- Len led the league in passer rating 4 times to Montana’s 2
- Len led the league in completion percentage 8 times to Joe’s 5
- Averaged 7.7 yds/pass to Joe’s 7.5
- Led the league in TD passes 4 times to Joe’s 2
- Each had 6 seasons with 20 or more TDs
- Won 3 championships vs. Montana’s 4.
Maybe people will show some more respect to old Leonard….
Skewed Stats
Look at the career totals…Lenny played in four more seasons than Montana. Though I admit I haven’t taken a look, I would guess there was more competition in Montana’s era (at least when you’re talking numbers). Four years after Montana, three HOFers were drafted in the first round.
Career Passing Yards
Dawson – 28,711
Montana – 40,551
Career Completion %
Dawson – 57.1
Montana – 63.7
I mean I’m all for propping up Lenny but there’s a reason he’s not compared to Montana. Plus, Montana’s got two extra SB rings.
by Joel Thorman on May 12, 2009 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Still man...
Efficient and very effective in an era when it was much harder to pass effectively….And Lenny was on the bench for a while in Pittsburgh so the length of career is a little skewed too, but…yea…
Im glad we dont have to worry about Lenny getting in the HOF, cuz he is thurrrrrrr
I learned something on this post....yeah!!!!

Sweet. What kinda rig did you build?

Which board?
video processor(s)? SLI?
opperating system (32 or 64 bit) ?
how many watts on the power supply?
overclocked and liquid cooled or just maxing out the standard settings and air cooled?
I never ever ever buy a computer in a box for any “high end” machine. If all you want is a mid-tier machine you can save cash on a box system, but for a real screamer you can get twice the machine for the money if you build it yourself. I like to see what people combine and how they go about their builds.
Just don’t tell me if you spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a a modified tower case with neon lights and led wiring and day glow fans, light up keyboards, etc etc. I’ll end up laughing at you for increasing the heat, wasting the power, and throwing away money =P

Oh my god, you're killin me
I don’t know what was funnier, the picture, or Texas’ full on computer geekdom response. Classic.
I'm not a Star Wars fan. I didn't cream myself over Lord of the Rings....
I don’t give a rat’s ass about Star Trek (movies or T.V.). I don’t speak Klingon. I don’t spend my days trying to make a leaderboard playing Halo or Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty etc…
I have 3 passions in life.
1) Football
2) Computer Building
3) Cooking (Alton Brown is my own personal Lord and Savior)
So yes, I admit to being a computer hardware nerd as well as an X’s and O’s defensive nerd =P

No worries Tex, it was just all in the timing.
You’re the person I’ll come to when I’m ready to build mine. Just promise me you won’t post any more of those self-portraits.
I told you it was a Venus Flytrap post

Actually it is Nuclear powered
That’s why he didn’t want to ruin his clothes while building it :)
