The Return of Larry Johnson

Another awesome video from Mr. Wendler at Warpaint Illustrated. It's definitely worth the watch.

simply put

Larry is one of the most fun backs in the NFL to watch when motivated. Crossing my fingers this works out. I got chills watching this.

idk..i just feel he worn out his welcome…wat pisses me off is…end of the year he was hell bent on leavin..ok..then all of a sudden he lost some money on his contract and seeing that no other team will pay him for his immature shit..except the chiefs..he shut his mouth and started being a team player…why??…cause thats the only way he can make money and still roll with jay-z!!..

by kcchiefsfan56 on May 10, 2009 6:28 PM CDT reply actions

completely agree

just considering on the field performance. Loss of money may be his motivation – weak it may be.

well idk about the jaz-z part lol

Just wait...

If we lose our first two or three, LJ will remind us all why we don’t want him anymore.

by GonzosDirtyTrailer on May 10, 2009 6:32 PM CDT reply actions

He our best option now...

But I cringe every time I see him make that stupid Jay-Z sign after a big play/touchdown.

by Scaryclouds on May 10, 2009 6:34 PM CDT reply actions

Are you kidding?

That’s what he represents. Larry Johnson is part of that krew. Everyone has their touchdown celebration. And that’s LJ’s. LT has the “teardrop”, AP has those hard steps, Steven Jackson shoots the ball, LJ throws up the ROC. I love it… LJ also does the “ROC Boys Salute.” With D-Bowe.

I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

I always thought he was just making his initials with his hands.

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

actually makes me remember good things about LJ

I’m not his biggest fan by any means, but I would dearly love to see him rip off 1500 yds or more this year. Lets run his legs off!!

by Zodeman on May 10, 2009 6:41 PM CDT reply actions

still got juice

hes still got what it takes his first couple he played behind priest and last couple he was injured and suspended but he still almost rushed for a 1000 yrds with a poor offense so i know with know doubt that hehas juice left

by apachepride on May 10, 2009 7:11 PM CDT reply actions

Thumbs down. I’d really prefer to never see him in a KC uniform again.

by burntorangehorn on May 10, 2009 7:19 PM CDT reply actions

It still does....

“Just a few days before the start of training camp in 2006, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson strolled into the team’s practice facility and stared at a surprising sight. There was his Pro Bowl running back, Larry Johnson, lifting weights alone. It was a scene that made Peterson smile proudly. While other players were enjoying their remaining time off, his star was preparing for his first full season as the foundation of the Chiefs’ offense.”

He looks soft even on the good runs he had

It’s all about money with him. You can see they were running out of film (they kept repeating over and over). For the entire year he only had 15-16 good runs and 3-4 memorable ones. He never blocks…And we just got a franchise QB. No thank you. There are 20 RBs in line to have the chances he has had.

by ALR on May 10, 2009 7:28 PM CDT reply actions

Those 15-16 good runs and 3-4 memorable ones....

plus all the other “garbage” runs and he STILL had a 4.5 yards per carry. 4.5 yards per carry behind arguably one of the WORST O-lines in the NFL and what did LT average…….3.8 yards per carry. LaDainian SUCKED in compairison

I want all the people who knock this guys to carry the rock 416 times in a year (Larry did that in the 2006-07 season, and just in case you don’t know… that is the record number of carries for any running back EVER) then see how well YOU DO the next season (FYI – Every running back that has set the record for numbers of carries in a single season got hurt the next year…ALL of them…100%). 416 is more carries than Walter Payton, Jim Brown, Berry Sanders or any other RB you can name. For this reason you HAVE to cut the man a little slack for the 2007-08 season.

Now 2008-09 season he made a LOT of bad decisions that bit him (and our team) in the butt, but compared to others (Leonard Little: Killed someone while drinking and driving then got ANOTHER DUI shortly after. – OR – Ray Lewis: Another killer. – OR – Michael Vick: How many dogs did that man kill?) Larry is relatively harmless.

Lets not forget how Larry was treated by Dick Vermeil who wanted NOTHING to do with him and treated him like a bastard step child for YEARS. If you were treated like that you would have a piss poor attitude too.

I think that with all his bad press he could rush for 4K yards and 40 touchdowns this year and there will STILL be people on this site that says is looks soft. Bottom line, the man can ball, REALLY BALL. We are LUCKY to have him on our team.

by KCChiefs on May 12, 2009 11:10 AM CDT up reply actions

I do want to make one other thing clear.

The way Mr. Johnson has treated some of the women in KC is some serious bull-stuff. I don’t care how famous a person is, how much money they make, or what their level of power is in this world there is some things “Men” don’t do, and Ol’Larry need a lesson from someone that he TRULY respects in this world.

I don’t know if that person is his father, Carl Peterson, or Jay-Z but someone that Larry respects needs to give that kid (the way he has been acting toward women IS childish at best) a good old fashion passionate ass whippin and informed that the crap he has been pulling is NOT acceptable.

Check it

If Parcells chose to keep and deal with my main man Sticky Ricky, you gotta believe Mini Parcells is gonna give LJ a fair shot. Make sure your #27 jersey’s are clean for Week 1 folks because my homeboy is going be busting thru holes bulldozed by Big Boy Brown. Believe it.

Thanks Shuffle...

UC has done everything to try to convince everyone on that LJ is going to be gone yet, here he is, still a Chief. Although some of what he says makes some sense, he takes it as though his word is the last. For every argument against LJ, I can think of 5 arguments why we should keep him.
The thing is, we will just have to wait and see. I for one think he will still be a Chief next year.

Sheesh...

fThe guy was getting run down from behind on every breakout run.

I do feel that he may be our best option. Kolby Smith has better vision I think, better hands, and is better at blocking, but LJ is the better pure runner. I just worry that we may not have the push up front necessary to get Larry going. He’s not very shifty in the backfield, and often gets tackled on first contact when our O-Line is playing the part of the Matedor waivin MFers through.

I’d like to think that LJ’s got some juice left, though if the Chief’s find an opportunity to offload him I think they should.

I could get more sacks with my sack

by ArrowSpread on May 10, 2009 7:40 PM CDT reply actions

L.J.....

Was spoiled by our o-line, when he had huge holes to run thru, and frankly we were too! Without all the good blocking up front L.J showed his true colors, if you watch him run he goes down most of the time with the first contact even by cornerbacks! L.J as big as he is should run thru those tackles, but as soon as he is touched he goes down with ease! Can L.J change, i hope he can,but i really wish he would take his drama to another team!

by CPT.Caveman on May 11, 2009 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

How do you guy's know...

that he hasn’t changed? How do you guy’s know that after 3 games, if we lose, that he will go back to his old ways? How do you guy’s know that Larry doesn’t have juice left?
Just wait and see before you judge…

by Wrestler189s on May 10, 2009 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

We know that

because Pioli & Haley are no nonsense and have zero tolerance for bullshit. LJ was always Carl’s baby boy and without Papa Peterson around LJ is no different or better than Javarris Williams or Dantrell Savage. If he’s as shallow as y’all make him to out to be – he’s all about the money and no team will pay Larry more in the next two seasons than the Chiefs.

For you Canadians, as Officer Lahey would say: Larry is at the end of his shit rope

by bfett81 on May 10, 2009 8:16 PM CDT reply actions

BTW

The only run that got repeated was the 65-yarder. I wanted every angle of that in there. Epic, career-long run.

by bfett81 on May 10, 2009 8:17 PM CDT reply actions

And as for the "getting run down" comment...

Larry has never broken runs all the way. He’s always been caught from behind. He had a couple of 40-yard TD runs in 2004. Ever since then, all of his runs over 30 yards, he’s been tackled before the end zone.

He doesn’t have the long speed. What he has is elite acceleration. He doesn’t have the juice to outrun 4.3 DBs and really never has, even in his best years (05 and 06).

So step off, punks. lol

LARRY HAD SOME GOOD RUNS THERE BUT THAT WAS ALSO WITH A GOOD LINE BEHING HIM. IF YOU WATCH THE VIDEO THE ONLY TIMES HE GETS A GOOD RUN IS WHEN HE IS NOT TOUCHED. AS SOON AS HES TOUCHED OL LARRY FALLS DOWN AND GOES BOOM BOOM LOL!!! HES DONE AND I HOPE NO ONE IS COUNTING ON HIM AS A 1000 YARD BACK THIS YEAR CAUSE I JUST DONT SEE IT

A few of those runs were in the last two years...

And I think that we all agree that we haven’t had the best line in the last two years. He also did make some moves after being touched, like dragging guys for ten yards or so. Don’t think LJ is quite as good as he once was (2005/2006) but I do think that he’s our best back and that it’s not even close.

LJ

I honestly think LJ preformed damn good last year givin the circumstances. he rushed for nearly 1k yards and he missed how many games? had a poor Line. Our offense was good last year, could have been better with a line. sure LJ’s off the field issues are an eye sore and not good for KC, but he is still an elite back. still a top 5 imo. i can honestly see LJ ripping 1500 yards and 15+ td’s. only 15 cuz i think with haley we’ll be passing alot more.

and i really hope thigpen wins the qb battle :D. sorry had to add that in there.

LJ is a prick but, I hope they decide to keep him. Dude is a player. That highlight reel makes him look pretty kick ass.

Why can't I quit you, Larry?!

Being a man I am not allowed to cry unless my dog/ horse dies or the Chiefs shank another field goal in the playoffs (damn you Lin Elliot!), but that was a beautiful video and reminds me of why I have a totally non-homosexual man-crush on Larry Johnson. I think if anyone can, Todd Haley can get him to focus on football, and if he can do that he can become one of the greatest running backs of all time. Sure he has had a few legal issues, but if you think about it almost all of our sports heroes did. Mohammed Ali, Wilt Chamberlain, Mike Tyson (I had to throw him in there purely for comedic value), Jack Johnson, Babe Ruth, the list goes on and on. Hopefully Haley can tell Johnson “Look, I know you are all hardcore and straight up gangsta, with the pants hanging on down and the shoes unties, so sloppy… but in 30 years, people could remember that Larry Johnson was one of the greats. They could remember that even pushing 30 he was still a formidable force to be reckoned with, and left the league a respected and accomplished hall-of-famer. Or you can smack the hoes up and fall down the drain into the huge pile of woulda-coulda-shouldas. It’s up to you.” Then someone could start one of those really slow claps that starts the inspirational music… great times

it's truly amazing

People now want to credit Damion McIntosh, Adrian Jones and Rudy Niswanger for Larry’s success.

Is that not just the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard?

I dont think

Larry had amazing speed, but he had that amazing burst and acceleration running through the holes, granted we had an amazing O line his first 2 – 3 years!
