This rule needs to go
“Nobody is going to take the time to get up off the ground to hit a quarterback. So you'll have guys make the play, pay the fines, write it off on their taxes and move on. Whoever made that rule is crazy."
-- Eagles CB Sheldon Brown on Brady rule
this is a response to the "Brady Rule" in an atricle from Jeffri Chadiha. is a pretty interesting read.
Here's a prediction for the 2009 NFL season: The so-called "Tom Brady rule" won't change a thing about how defensive players attack the quarterback. It certainly will lead to more penalties. It might even produce more reprimands from the league office. What it won't do, however, is create the kind of impact the league was hoping for when its competition committee announced adoption of the measure during last week's league meetings.
i think this article is right on, and as Sheldon brown has said ( and many other feel the same way im sure) is that this rule isnt going to change anything as far as gameplay. instead we are going to see more flags on the field and players fined more frequently.
The reason the rule won't work is that it's attempting to control the kind of play that usually happens in a split second. When Pollard injured Brady, he was trying to make a big play in a key moment while Brady was stepping into a downfield throw. Unfortunately for Brady, Pollard's instinctive decision sidelined the Pro Bowl quarterback before he had played even a full quarter in 2008. Pollard -- who had been blocked to the turf but not into Brady -- was not flagged or fined for his play. Pollard would have faced penalties if this new policy was in place.
why is this even an issue? you know if you are going to play football, your going to get hit. thats just a fact. why destroy the integrity of the game because a star QB gets injured. i mean i felt sorry for the guy but it happens.
what do you guys think about this so called rule?

How many times does this really apply in a year?

hey shit happens in the nfl . Its part of the game
We have sufferd threw broken cryoyal every season the guy gets hurt every single play but you dont see us crying. Its just apart of the game. This rule though will have a huge impact on the game . As you know many guys get knocked down at the line either slipping getting trucked or falling over someone . But as you know since we were in pee wee sports our coaches have always preached to go hard every play if you fall get up crawl roll do what ever it takes to make a play. Also play until the whistle blows its just what was preached to us from day one. NEVER GIVE UP.
And say pollard never makes that play because he was affraid to get a flag or fined . What has the league done to improve the product on the field. Yes they might have a healthy face of the nfl tom brady. But you have made every defender helpless and hesitant to make a play on ever down. I Hope the players strike on this and I hope when they strike they get a few other rules out the wayas well. SO we can return to real football. not flag football.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
Simple solution
Since we have so much salary cap room left over the Chiefs should just write into defensive player’s contracts a clause like this:
Conditional Bonus: For every time that the player is fined for defying the “Brady Rule” said player shall receive a bonus equal to the dollar amount they are fined by the league.
Now go out there and play to the whislte.
