New Uniforms

I love the Chiefs uniforms but it drives me nuts that there is no gold on the helmet.  I would love to see the "KC" inside the arrowhead outlined with gold, and maybe modernize the jersey/ pants with some new piping or stripes.  But you gotta keep the red road trousers!  Another thing I would like to see is some updating to Arrowhead, I would love to see the green padding replaced with red and paint the concrete red.  I also think it would look great if the numbersof those players with retired jerseys on the ring of honor were gold plated .

Okay, two things

1) They aren’t “new” – they’re throwbacks.
2) We’re only wearing them for what, four games? And the only time you’ll see a noticeable difference during those games is on close-up shots of players.

I love the throwbacks, I love honoring the history of the AFL, and it isn’t a big deal anyway.

by Seth_C on Apr 30, 2009 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Totally agree

with the love of the throwbacks, the Chargers powder blues are almost as cool as the Royals powder blues. I just hate that damn TX on the helmet.

by sandpro on Apr 30, 2009 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Whats wrong with TX

I love that helmet. And you also wouldn’t see a gold outline on the helmet except for close ups.

by TXroyal on Apr 30, 2009 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

What's wrong with Texas?

Well, lets start with the fact that 95 out of 100 of “those guys” walking around in dumb ass womens party hats, high healed boots, and giant stupid tin fake rodeo belt buckles have never seen, been on, worked at, or were raised on a ranch. The vast majority of them are middle to upper class middle suburbia posers and wanna be cowboys.

Big womens party hats curled up on the sides, high heals, and fake gold jewelry belt bling leads me to the same conclusion that Ghallager was led to. The center of sexual confusion in the US is not San Francisco, its Dallas.

This fashion:

is just as representative of truth in advertising as this one:

the top part anyways. I bet more people dress like the guy in the FUBU shirt then any of the other pictures.

take away the 2 guys in the forground with the stupid looking hats...

the 4 guys in the background are a dime a dozen everywhere I go. And I’d bet that for every 100 of them I come across 95 of them have never been on a horse, went to a ranch, or had any more contact with a cow than flipping burgers at Mickey D’s

Good point

I don’t know where Texas Chief is hanging out but I want no part of it. I guess farther south the posers die off.

This has been discussed ad nauseum

Most don’t want the throwbacks as has been polled. Secondly, I’m well aware theya re throwbacks, but the fact is that they’re still being used, ergo they will be “new” uniforms consdering they’ve never been worn at Arrowhead.

One more thing

It might not be “a big deal” to you per say, Seth, but to many taxpayers as well as Chiefs fans, they are.

#1 sign anyone is wrong in any debate: using "the taxpayers" or "the children"

Do you think substantively more of your tax dollars go to:

A) Larry Johnson’s pocket
B) Parking and facilities for Johnson Co. residents that don’t drop a single dollar in Missouri to use them
C) Vendors serving “Oklahoma Joe’s” BBQ
D) Anything that says “Kansas” City or "K"C in general causing every Jackson Co. resident who ever ventures beyond the 435 betway to constantly explain they never lived in Kansas.
E) Some helmet logos that create a geographic dissonance rendering the above joke unfunny?

Lamar Hunt is why the Chiefs are here. Lamar Hunt was from Texas. Does it feel good? Not necessarily. But will everyone with half a brain realize that it represents the Kansas City Chiefs tradition and not Texas’s? Yes. Will they still think tax payers in Kansas and not Missouri are paying for it, and that the game they are watching is in Kansas? Yes.

Or speaking in 3rd person :) ‘Course that’s a debate for another board not sports related but perhaps related to B.O. or “W”. I really like referring to him as “B.O.”. I didn’t like “W”, course I called him JR or would call him -DUB-YAAAAA to make it drawl out. Bill I referred to as Bubba.

Do you think substantively more of your tax dollars go to:

A) Larry Johnson’s pocket -Seems to me that’s out of Clark’s pocket, unless there’s a Parade in his pocket jingling the spare change…couple a million for Clark, that he carries to light cigars with. :)

B) Parking and facilities for Johnson Co. residents that don’t drop a single dollar in Missouri to use them -Seems to me they do drop it on Parking and tickets and taxes for JC. Course I believe they tend to car pool with Mo. drivers so they don’t have their Ferrari dinged :)

C) Vendors serving "Oklahoma Joe’s" BBQ I hate that place…bleeech. It’s the McDonald’s or Sonic of BBQ.

D) Anything that says "Kansas" City or "K"C in general causing every Jackson Co. resident who ever ventures beyond the 435 betway to constantly explain they never lived in Kansas.
No. no. If you have “JO” on your Kansas plate, that signifies lack of driving knowledge. It’s there on purpose to warn other drivers ;)

E) Some helmet logos that create a geographic dissonance rendering the above joke unfunny? It’s only funny if I say it :)

Lamar Hunt is why the Chiefs are here. Lamar Hunt was from Texas. Does it feel good? Not necessarily.

No. It was because of Lamar Hunt and “The Chief” a.k.a. Mayor Bartle’s forward thinking that leased the old facility to Lamar for…get this…. $1. Furthermore, if the fans never filled the stadiums and never paid for the improvements, this wouldn’t even be a discussion since someone else would be talking about the “Salt Lake City Chiefs” or the “Los Angeles Chiefs”…or whatever. He might have owned the team, but any businessman is only successful if he can sell the product. He has, and we’ve reciprocated in giving him profits….which is fine. We pay for the entertainment, so he deserves to make money. It goes both ways. Are many OK with the retro look…No. but what do you expect from owners that live in Dallas full time.

But will everyone with half a brain realize that it represents the Kansas City Chiefs tradition and not Texas’s? Yes.

Sure, but that’s not the point. That’s Kietz.’ lame point. Like someone is going to get confused? Kietz should have let that one go.

Will they still think tax payers in Kansas and not Missouri are paying for it, and that the game they are watching is in Kansas? Yes.

Not my problem that people outside of the city aren’t geographically knowledgeable and understand there actually is a K.C.MO.
Then again, I’ve seen KA. used as Kansas instead of KS. by some lame-o from the west coast. At least they don’t screw up MO into MI or to MS…wait, uuuuugh the fools :)

Perhaps our point was not clear

Paying taxes does not make throwback uniforms a serious issue. We pretty sure the mayor is enough of an idiot that this point is not debatable.

Moving on, the fans are different than the taxpayers.

If you’re arguing from a fans perspective then consider the Buffalo, the Toronto Bills. The Hunts have been hugely loyal by ownership standards to the Kansas City Area. If there’s no Lamar Hunt, not only is there no LA or SLC Chiefs, there’s probably no AFL. There also is no KC Wizards and we’d say that $1 for Municipal stadium was a pretty good deal considering what the Hunts have sunk into the Truman Sports Complex over the years.

We can’t really get into the talk radio elements, but we saw the link to the petition and thought it was silly.

Last, we may not agree with what you say sir but we will defend your right to say it to the death. Unless you’re talking about Oklahoma Joe’s in which case we have no problem using the capricious powers of an ombudsman to ban you from life, or better put, from living (as in not like the blog, like hunt you for sport like the movie Turkey Shoot).

Seriously, you don’t like Oklahoma Joe’s???

It's OK

I started eating BBQ more at mom and pop shops the last few years. Seriously, all of you should try it and get different menu items and share…it’s quite an experience.
There’s one out on Parallel in KCK (who’s anme escapes me),as well as Brodie’s up in Smithville. These are excellent BBQ joints family owned. Amazing stuff. You see the cooker driving up to the place.
About the closest I get to the “name brand” BBQ stuff anymore is Jack Stack.

Dunno, Truth’s become jaded and he decided to expand his tastebuds to see if there’s anything better out there. He feels that the smaller places (due to smaller business) can really server up the BBQ, while sometimes the larger ones’ BBQ (on a rare occassion) isn’t as tender.

I'll pass on throwbacks

I can handle some minor updates to the uniforms just to modernize them a little bit but nothing major. I like the way our helmets look currently but I think it’d be sweet if our Home unis were almost totally red (would be pretty epic if we took notes from Boise St. and made our whole field Chiefs Red too but that sadly is most likely waaaay outside the realm of possibility) with white/gold accents and have our Away unis be all white with red/gold accents (I hate UT but Texas’ all-whites are pretty sick imo).

That said, I’m content with our current setup. Sure, there are a few things they could do to make Chiefs gear more wearable outside Arrowhead. That’s really my only complaint, I just want to be able to find a Chiefs hat or tshirt ONE TIME that doesn’t look like I should be wearing freaking Zubaz pants to complete the ensemble.

Cassel vs. Thigpen in Camp should improve the play of both.
Next on the need list: linebacker, and both lines

I would love to see the Chiefs

uniforms modernized a bit. Not too much to take things away from their long history, but those uni’s have barely changed since they came to KC.

I think now would be a great time to do so – new coach, GM, owner, stadium renovations, etc. The Chiefs of old are no more.

Wow, this conversation is tedious once again.

The reason we have to go clear back to the old Texan’s uniform is because our uniforms have been basically the same since the inception of the team. There have been only minor changes. Personally, I think that is cool. The Texan’s old uniforms for throwbacks is no big deal. It is part of our heritage and history. Personally, I think that is cool, too. I can’t believe anyone is blowing a gasket over this.

I would like to see new uniforms as well.

I thought the new Pats and Donkeys unis looked horrible when they first switched to them, but once you get used to them and look at the previous ones, the old ones look really horrible. I know people fondly remember the minuteman in the 3 point stance, but come on, it’s ludicrous looking.

I don’t think the Chiefs need to drastically re-invent the wheel, just spruce things up and modernize them. Get a graphic designer using modern CG equipment to bring the arrowhead logo into the 20th century.

Also, did the Chiefs change their lettering when Carl arrived? They went to an all caps “CHIEFS” form the all lowercase “chiefs…”
