I remember reading a blurb

that scouts were concerned about Cushing’s supplement use. Guess it was more than supplements.

Me too...

But I hadn’t heard anything on Matthews. That’s what surprised me.

Whoa - I was just reading this yesterday....

…. and something didn’t smell right:

Solomon Chapman, Chicago,IL 03:22 PM ET:

Is it true that you were 180lbs going into college? If so what did you do to get to the size you are now?

 Clay Matthews Jr., LB, USC

My weight going into college was around 220 pounds, but somehow it gets exaggerated to make a better sotry. I was a late-bloomer physically, and then with getting into the weight room so much during college, I got to where I am today.

Matthews weighed in at 240

i know drug use is out there but

going from 180lbs to 240lbs is not hard to do, especially at the age when hormones are at their peak in young men. eat a lot and lift a lot of weights.

yep

but something just seemed kind of funny about his response – like he wanted to downplay how much he had put on or somethin- just kind of ironic timing for this story on nfl.com

Top Defenders

It seems like every other player on Defense is testing positive for a banned substance or is scoring really low on the mental side. As long as Curry is not on any of the bad lists he really starts to look amazing by comparison.

I was for trading down and picking up a second teir LB or DE but I am starting to think that as long as no flags show up for Curry that he should be the pick. His game really has no holes and he seems to just love football. Curry has Pioli guy writen all over him.

Disagree...

lateer rounder guy has Pioli written all over it.

We're getting Jesus?!

He should make our team an instant contender for sure! ;)

Is it the 'old' fire and brimstone Jesus, or the new Kevin Smith inspired 'thumbs up' Jesus?

Cause if isn’t the old fire and brimstone version I don’t want him on our defense. He needs that ‘killer’ instinct.

Who are you considering?

I like Rey but I am not sure about some of the others.

by tevans96 on Apr 3, 2009 9:15 AM CDT up reply actions

I've wanted Rey from day 1, just not at #3.

Rey + pretty much anyone; Eben Britton, Maybin, Everette Brown, hell even another WR.

But he was never hurt at SC.

I’m not worried about him once he’s on the field.

It's a testiment to Rey's character

that both his teammates were on roids and he passed on them.

the ones I knew ate better, didn’t drink as much, none smoked cigs, just overall more conscious about what went in them.

you cant be serious guy

this kid has no character. just because he didnt take roids when the other two were doesnt say anything about character, rey didnt need steroids to make him an awesome football player, unlike the other 2. Rey’s freshman year at USC he got arrested for battery and declared that he “Owns the cops”. how about that move he pulled coming up on erin andrews grinding on her? yea lets keep praising this kids character…….

....

when an 18 year old kid who is one of the best players on one of the most high profile teams is arrested for battery…yes, stop the presses, because that is very news worthy…..that kinda stuff might fly in Raytown…but in most civilized communities, its not okay to go around assaulting people. call me crazy

hes a great player

i just see a real problem with someone praising this kid’s character

PT

It seems to me, most year’s there is a rumor of maybe one guy testing positive.

This was a pretty big bomb dropped on the 1st round, you’re talking about 4 guys that were locks testing positive for the juice, and another positive for green.

I’m guessing MSM are waiting to have some of this confirmed before blowing the story up, but it seems like a really big one. Something that could have a big impact on the draft.

percy harvin

he was already on the bubble this isnt good right after he was trying to prove the scouts wrong about his size now he smoking weed with raji and vontae davis. what a dousche

Steroids are a very broad term

Chances are they were taking some supplement that has some banned substance in it. The media reports it as “steroids” because that is a hot button. I doubt these guys injecting each other with testosterone or anything like that. Probably an over the counter supplement with something that triggers the drug test. Really not a big deal in my eyes.

Most NFL players use supplements along with diet to look as freakish as they do. These teo guys are buddies, they probably started taking some new supp together and it ended up having a banned substance in it. Many times these supplements will have things in them that aren’t listed in the ingredients and that’s what can get you in trouble.

Good point.

Could also be a substance banned by the NFL but not the NCAA.

by HIV 2 Elway on Apr 3, 2009 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions

The report says Steroids...

Not a ‘banned substance.’

Granted, its just one report, so we’ll have to wait and see what comes of it, but as of now, there’s no reason to believe otherwise, or that it was some lesser substance.

They either aren’t that bright, or got some really bad advice…or both.

by kcsno56 on Apr 3, 2009 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Do you guys think because the game is moving so much to speed . For example

these guys cannot hit no one anymore . That they are taking steroids to keep up and stay in better shape ?Or are they just under achievers that are not the normal size and need to bulk up to keep up?

FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.

by sexassassin on Apr 3, 2009 10:12 AM CDT reply actions

For guys like Cushing and Matthews

I think they were smaller guys needing to bulk up.

Matthews dad played in the NFL so he had a lot of advantages because of that experience. The knock on him even before we found out about the steroids was that he wasn’t the most physically gifted player, but was a smart player. What would he have been like if he hadn’t been on the juice?

by ChiefDJ on Apr 3, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

ya both guys are like on the border line of gifted athletes

man i was not sold on cushing and i was not sold on raji and i wasnt sold on mathiews man . the only guy im sold on is monroe and curry thats it and mack thats it.

What a bunch of Retarts.

Theses guys have cost themselves several million dollars between them.

by saskwatch on Apr 3, 2009 10:56 AM CDT reply actions

The irony is

They likely wouldn’t have been in a position to make several million dollars at the top of the draft if they weren’t juicing.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 3, 2009 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't know that it bothers NFL coaches that much

Obviously coaches don’t want players using while they’re on their team, but steroids in the NFL is viewed completely different than steroids in baseball. These guys will still be 1st round draft picks.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 3, 2009 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it hurts cushing more because his 40 isnt the greatist

and he is like to me a backup line backer in the nfl . in my opinion.

Wouldnt they

want to be more aware of what they are putting in there body if it has the possibility of not passing an NFL drug screening, I know I would want to be aware of the pass/fail criteria before I went to the combine

by DT58forever on Apr 3, 2009 11:55 AM CDT reply actions

no one should be suprised by this

it has been no secret that cushing has been on them since high school.
