Crowded front seven?
So obviously everyone here knows about Tyson Jackson and Im praying pioli has seen enough good things in him to take him at three but thats not what Im here to dicuss.
If we list off all of the chiefs potential projected starters for the front seven we'd come up with something like this:
- Tank Tyler (essentially was openly guarunteed that nose tackle spot)
- Tyson Jackson
- Tamba Hali
- Glenn Dorsey
- Derrick Johnson
- Mike Vrabel
- Zach Thomas
And if you want, you can include names like:
- Turk McBride
- Alfonso Boone
- Monty Beisel
Now if you were trying to fit these guys into a starting lineup, there would be some difficulty (assuming that we dont trade any of these guys). Obviously we want Jackson to be starting immediately and we cant have the 5th overall pick (dorsey) from last year on the bench. so if we include Tank we have a front 3. But we cant forget about Tamba Hali. There were rumors about him moving to that standup OLB spot but i seriously doubt if he could flourish there. So if we were to include all those names above into the equation, we have a solid group to derive some starters from on the line.
Going into the third round in the draft tomorrow there are still some good talent at I believe would be the 4-3 DE spot in Micheal Johnson and Gilbert (but I have heard that some people think he has good scheme versatility). They both have arguably round one talent so one of these guys may go to the Lions or Rams. So Don Pioli now has some decision making to do. I want to hear your take on some of the moves he needs to make in the next month or so. And if I have completely got one of my facts wrong then feel free to let me know so that im up to date on everything chiefs. Cheers from the Canadian Prairies.

We can't afford to draft more for defense and ignore the...
… offensive line.
We have one long term solution in Albert and one short term in Waters (assuming he isn’t traded tomorrow). Our offensive line was so bad last year we went multiple games early in the season where we didn’t score a single touchdown. We also lost two quarterbacks to injury and watched our coaching staff desperately turn to an offensive scheme meant to move the QB as far from the line of scrimmage as possible to protect him from an undeterred pass rush every weekend.
Pioli has pinned this franchise’s future success and hope onto Cassel’s breast. He’d be foolish not to protect his golden child more than what we all witnessed last year. Cassel’s confidence and physical well being are at stake.
Meanwhile Scott “the Don” Pioli has invested a powerful draft pick and multiple free agent acquisitions into improving the play of the “D”. He needs to now shift his attention to an offensive line that ranks among the worst in the league.
You think the old age LB's that he got is going to make our D enough to start the season?!?!?!
That is a joke!! It has to be!! I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be rude, Big Red but…wow, yeah, we have to pick up a RT and we have Geoff and Waters (if he’s not traded) long enough to pick up a couple next year but we have NO PASS RUSH!!!
That was what made our D so bad last year and with the addition of Tyson Jackson all that does for us is help the run defense. A few sacks, at best, but no more than maybe 3. That’s not a pass rusher. WE NEED A PASS RUSHER and defense wins championships.
Pioli has said it countless times. He believes it and it’s his fault that he dropped the ball on getting us back in the 2nd round. I LOVE the trade of Cassel and Vrable (who we can’t count on all game long so we need someone to fill in and eventually take over for) for our round 2 pick, but Pioli is the so-called “master of draft picks” and he’s done “jack” and “shite” on getting us draft picks THIS year.
The extra round 2 pick next year is great. But it’s not doing us any good at all sitting a year away when we need our pass rusher now. Thomas has his half game replacement in Beisel. Who does Vrabel have? DJ should be in the “Predator” position to take over for Vrabel and then we have DeMario Williams and Tamba Hali. Do you think they can do it based on last year? You think they’ll change much this year?
We do need a RT. I’ve excepted the fact that Niswanger is a “Pioli” type guy that is football smart and Pioli seems to like it if he’s re-signed with us. A RT is important and we can pick up one but we can’t devote the rest of the draft to just our O if we still haven’t picked up our impact player. Tyson Jackson, unless he can sack the QB 10 times this upcoming season, is NOT an impact player that we desperately need for our D.
There's no hope with dope...
