Reports: Chiefs Sign Matt Cassel to Six Year Deal with $36 Million Guaranteed
It's okay to buy the Matt Cassel jerseys now

Update: Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star and Peter King of Sports Illustrated are disputing this story.
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Matt Cassel to a six year contract with $36 million guaranteed according to the NFL Network and the National Football Post.
The Chiefs dealt a 2nd round pick to the New England Patriots for the right to land Cassel and his $14 million franchise tag. Since then we've gone back and forth on the advantages and disadvantages of getting him locked up in a long-term deal.
This news is breaking just an hour and a half away from the start of the NFL Draft. I would guess this was a fairly easy deal to get done then, maybe even having been completed weeks ago with the Chiefs' keeping in the secrecy theme preferring to wait until draft day to announce it. The Chiefs were actually in danger of not hitting the salary cap floor but depending on the payout of this deal, they probably don't have to worry about that anymore.
The last six year contract signed by a quarterback with this much money guaranteed was Matthew Stafford ($41.7 million) yesterday and Matt Ryan ($34.75 million) last year.

Stability for 6 years @ QB!
Yayyyyyyyyyyy!
I'm currently reading "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and it feels like we got ourselves a McMurphy on our hands....wheelin' and dealin'
I've always liked Lombardi
He’s one of the more level headed media guys. Usually does a solid job.

Hope this works out
I would have prefered to see half a season before a long term contract myself, just to make sure it is not a one year wonder type of thing. I am not totally convinced he will be that good away from NE but I hope I am wrong.
Think aout it this way....
If I was Detroit I would trade Stafford for Cassel in heartbeat….but we saved how many million?
just keep matriculating the ball down the field !
What i'm goin to say is Ridiculous
I’m not even a fan of this. Or believe it’s possible. But why not wonder. We have a QB in Cassel but what if. We just signed him to get a cheap contract so he’s easier to trade. Broncos really wanted Cassel. They have two first rounders. We could draft Sanchez send Cassel to Denver for what ever.
Possible? Yes But will it happen hopefully not.
Mark Sanchez...Just say NO!
The evil that you know…..
just keep matriculating the ball down the field !
right on with the thoughts
I was thinking about the same on this. And, probably hopeful as well, as Cassel wanted to go to the Broncos anyway. This guarantees a deal just like the Pioli deal while at NE to franchise him and then used him to make him look good when he got here. Yes, I think something is up.
Damnit

Might want to make that a Broncos jersey
Could be a like deal Pioli did in NE with Cassel before he brought him to KC, knowing Cassel is bait for Denver. The deal is not done yet.
we wont send cassel to denver.
wont happen in a millon years. if we do we’ll be the laughing stocks of the nfl not denver. it makes absolutely no since to send him there. by doing that we no longer have a soild QB. and don’t say sanchez because that’s just retarded. no one in there right mind would trade a QB that has proven himself to at least be able to compete well in the NFL, even if only for a year, for one that started only one year in college. i’m not saying sanchez will be a bust but it’s too risky of a move. if that happened myself and meny other chiefs fans would be calling for pioli’s head to be placed next to peterson’s.

Posting on si.com that two sources tell me there is no new deal between the Chiefs and Matt Cassel.
