Restless NFL Draft Eve; Stafford Definitely the Number One Pick?
What a night.
I'm on my way to Lafayette, LA, and about an hour east of Houston, the 'ole car just went dead. While we were driving down I-10.
I'm not sure what is wrong the car quite yet. Possibly an alternator because the car was getting absolutely no electricity.
So, I'm currently in a La Quinta Inn (Nice people, these LaQuintas) in Baytown, TX, riding out what is the biggest storm I've seen since I was in India during monsoon season last year. Sideways rain even....
So, I'm blogging and checking out the stories tonight. Here is what's going on:
Matthew Stafford is apparently very close to becoming a Detroit Lion. Pride of Detroit has details as of about a half hour ago. Via NFL.com:
A source inside the Detroit Lions organization told NFL.com’s Thomas George that neither the team nor QB Matthew Stafford believe any differences in contract talks will stop the Georgia quarterback from becoming the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday’s draft.
That sounds pretty definite to me. Hash this one out in the comments while I get at least two beers in me.

Dead battery?
I'm currently reading "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and it feels like we got ourselves a McMurphy on our hands....wheelin' and dealin'
No, the battery is fine
It won’t hold a charge.

Or
The battery’s corroded. If so, pour some Coke over the battery. This worked for me once. That’s my extent on car knowledge.

Lafayette!!
Have some Boudin for me. WTF are doing spending draft day THERE? If you get sidetracked and end up in Shreveport let me know …
I doubt you wanna try to fix it in a storm anyway.
Hopefully this isn’t a bad sign before the draft.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
what exactly would this be a sign of?

oooo, it's been a while.
I’d put it in the $150 range, but that’s +/- $100.
Yep its the alternator
I had a car for 10 years, nothing ever went wrong on it in the entire 10 years except that I had to change the alternator 4 times.
Well acquainted with that problem.
If the car died because you lost power...
…and the lights dimmed before it died….
You pretty much have 4 options.
1) You have a battery with bad cells in it and it won’t hold a charge
2) You have a battery with posts so corroded that you are losing a large portion of the charge from the alternator
3) Your alternator is sending low volt or no volt back to the battery to rechage it
4) A combination of 1, 2, and 3
Don’t know what kinda car you drive, but if its not a corvette or a lexus or something like that then the alternator should be around $150 for the part. The battery can range from $50-$150 at Wal Mart prices. The labor should be no more than 2 hours unless you drive a late 80’s Toyota with a side mounted in line 4 cylander or a high end sports car.
That’s about all the advice I can offer.

Good chance if the alternator crapped out that it could have damaged the battery
Three out of four alternator changes I had to make I had to replace the battery as well.
Depends on what kind of car, and where you get it fixed
id guess $150 for the part + the labor.

$1,500 depending on the car

Not sure
If you check the national radar, there is this nasty little cell right over Houston. That’s what I’m in.

Over by 10:30
The local weather says it should be done by 10:30. My wife just took the dog out here in Seabrook, TX, so it must be getting better. Either that or I’m a terrible husband. Either way.
You Bet
Just another Texas toad floater. It freakin’ rains like this all the time down here. At least the tornadoes down here by the coast are pansies compared to the monsters I grew up around back in KC. It actually rained harder than this last Saturday. The flooding we are getting tonight is due to the ground saturation from last weekend.
That cell blew in from the west.
It was in SA in a much more mild form this morning/early afternoon. It’s picked up some steam as it moved tword the coast.

20% Chance
The forecast this morning was for 20% chance of rain. Sounds about as accurate as an NFL draft prediction I guess.
So
What’s everyone thinking about the Chiefs’ odds on trading this #3 pick? I don’t know if its going to happen.
I am resigned to the fact
that I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen regardless of whether or not we keep the pick.
The complete cone of silence from the Chiefs regarding Crabtree has me a bit concerned.

I'd be scared
but if Pioloi and WR coach Haley love him that much then I HAVE to be on board
I would do the same
But I just can’t get past his prima donna ego waiting to break out.

I don't know what I'd do if they picked crabtree.
Even if they traded down first.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
Let's say we take him at #3
And he turns out to be a superstar WR. He has TO and Ochocinco written all over him.
I don’t want any part of it, especially as it will suck Bowe into the same attitude.

I'm preparing for them picking up at 3
and hoping I’m wrong. Better than being disappointed.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
Depends on which teams are REALLY interested in Sanchez
Are the Seahawks and Browns REALLY looking to get him or are they just putting it out there in an effort to get teams to trade down?
Bucs, Jets, Broncos are all too far away to make the trade to #3, would be way too costly.
Browns are the best bet if they really want him.
my expectation / outcome ratio is
trade down —> giddy like a schoolgirl
curry —> pretty happy
j smith or e monroe —> satisfied
t jackson —> concerned, but in pioli we trust
anyone else —> confused, but proud of the stealthiness
You don't think crabtree is a bust?
I wouldn’t be stoked at all if we got him.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
How could you be disappointed with an immediate big improvement to our offense? Stressing on immediate.

easy...
Because our offense didn’t lose 14 games last year. Our defense did.

He won't live up to the hype
He was supposed to be the next Randy Moss. Then they found out he was about 3 inches shorter than advertised and couldn’t run the 40.
I don’t know if he will be an outright bust, but I don’t see him being a superstar.
not one bit. would surprise the hell outta me

They both said it wasn’t a big deal and that they would work together again.

I don't think for a second they'd have a problem working together
I think he’s too high priced for Pioli to go for =P

It's tough.
I’m not 100% that crabtree is a bust. You really have to give WR at least 2 years to evaluate them so I think it’d be nice to see improvement now with Anquan. But Anquan is worth a 2nd. Crabtree is not worth a first.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"

and to add.
Another reason I don’t think he will even be considered. Look at all the signings so far. They pretty much all have a connection. Do you really think Anquan goes down to a 2nd round pick and we don’t snatch him up?
We wanted a 2nd for TG!
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
Plus Bolden already said he wouldn't mind playing for Haley.

Heard the Cards were talking with the Titans
and looking at running backs. If we could get a second round pick this year we probably could get him for that #2 and LJ.
by WesternChief on Apr 24, 2009 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions
I was thinking.
AZ wanted Dorsey last year. Send Dorsey LJ and the 2010 2nd for Bouldin and AZs first. Send the first we get from them to Carolina for peppers (maybe a later round included on our side)
Then pick curry at 3
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
Seriously,
Why are Freeman and Cushing in NY? I know they invited 10, but why THOSE two guys — seems like they will go mid to low first round.
Maybe they figure
if they have two suckers fall down the board it will be less embarrassing
