Lions have reached terms with Curry if...
Stafford doesn't sign by Friday. It looks like the choice for the #1 pick is down to Curry or Stafford.
According to a league source, the Detroit Lions have completed contract terms with Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry and the team is now waiting to see if it can reach an agreement with their No. 1 target, Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford. The source said the Lions will not allow a decision to go beyond Friday and if a deal isn't done with Stafford by then, the team will sign Curry and take him with the first overall draft pick.

That said most people still think it will be Stafford. If he somehow falls past Detroit, the draft will get real interesting and I think the Chiefs #3 pick will really start fielding some interest.

Yeah the Lions are negotiating with
3 to 4 different players. One of them is also Jason Smith
AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.

If you believe the Detroit news it's either Curry or Stafford.
I think Smith winds up in St. Louis.

Pride of Detroit blog
has a front page posting quoting Curry as saying he would be happy to sign for less than what Long signed for last year, that might make him more attractive to the Lions and greatly improve our trade position.
Very unsubstantiated at this point, but still damn exciting.

Money Money Money Money....Money
Ford and Mayhew met in Ford’s office
Mayhew: Boy I’m really looking at Stafford. I’m thrilled we don’t have a huge cap hit going into this year
Ford: Well you do have $80Mil. of money to spend this year on salaries
Mayhew: Actually the cap is over $120Mil.
Ford: {long, cold star}
Mayhew: 80 it is.
Cheap, cheap cheap cheap.
They’re going for the cheaper option. Mark my words. When have you heard a team put a time frame on the #1 signing stating they have a backup plan?
If Stafford signs it’ll be because he’ll weigh the #1 pick money vs. being a later pick.

"My job is not to collect talent, but to build a team. Individuals make the Pro Bowl. Teams win championships. That is our goal."—Chiefs GM Scott Pioli.

woow this is crazy
imagine if curry signs 1 over all damn then detroit is fucked.
they will have a good player but no one that could be the face of the franchise like stafford. I would pay to be in a lion meeting what are those idiots thinking . Stafford would be my first selection there is no way daunte culpepper is going to hold down the fort for a long period of time.

Without a doubt
Detroit is the most ignorant of all franchises if they don’t get Stafford.
He could turn that team around in a couple of years. No wonder they couldnt win a game last year.

thats all im saying i mean the fans might be pulling for curry
but i dont know how they can when they dont have a qb anywhere near capable of helping them unless they plan on losing every game again this year and get a top rated qb in the draft . I see it like this stafford could win you some games maybe . And curry would just be enough for a couple tackles a game and you still lose i would rather have stafford give me a chance to turn stuff around unless my plan is we will suck anyways and ill get my qb next year.

Why would they get one next year if the are drafting 1st and don't want to pay one?

well what are you going to do have daunte culpepper
be your starter forever??? Those guys are idiots like i said I where them i would take stafford now unless they feel that they will suck which happens to be the case and they just do it next year either way they are going to have to pay sometime unless they feel culpepper can take them to the promise land.
