webb over franklin
I’m surprised Haley wouldn’t of targeted Webb over Franklin, Webb seems like more of a Herm guy due to their history.

One more thing we like about the AP
We’ve read a fair share of Mile High Report lately just because of their ‘interesting’ off-season, and we think for better or worse they’ve at least got the player personnel to challenge the Chiefs over this turnaround period (basing this on the most optimistic viewpoint of course, and the Chargers could be scary again with Merriman [but based on their steady decline since Marty left, we think they’re beatable] and the Raiders are pretty young with raw talent [but that front office situation isn’t striking fear in anyone right now]).
So to return to our point, the folks at MHR seem pretty confident Josh McDaniels could “coach” a potato sack into an elite QB if he had to.
We’re glad, and slightly perplexed, that the AP Nannystate hasn’t followed this line of thought thinking Haley could coach Webb, Darling, et al into the second coming of Fitzy or Quan. We think Mark Bradley could have a huge year if he can manage to stay healthy, but as we see the comments hit above us the Franklin cut becomes that much more perplexing.
To clarify we’re in no way suggesting Haley could “coach” Webb into to being an above average receiver, but it’s interesting.
The Patriots system and from what we saw of AZ seems to be using a plethora of strong receiving targets to open up a backfield and spread it around. This is probably the strongest case for Cassel over Thigpen (Thiggy for all his moxy isn’t much of a checkdown, passer IOO). Moreover, Bowe, Gonzalez(?), Engram could really open up the field for that #2 wideout.

Vince D linked this FanShot first
This is a confirmation of that from the Chiefs.
Nice work Tomahawk.
Yes, apologies to Primetime and Vince D
I missed the reference to Webb signing the tender myself.

Whew!
Got home wanting some big Chiefs news, what a day!
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
Yep:)
No not really, waiting on the bank to come to me, all this waiting is frustrating!
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
I can see why the Chiefs kinda wanted to keep him around. He seems to get the job done when his number is called on every once in a blue moon. He’s a pretty big reciever and, from what I’ve read in the past, is pretty intellegent and a hard worker. Seems like he fits well into Haley’s scheme. Franklin may have had a lot more potential/raw talent, but at the end of the day, smarts and work ethic is valued more.
This is a GOOD thing!
Webb coming back is better than most people think. Although he has not been the spotlight reciever that we need (but knew he wasn’t that anyway), Webb will shine this year for the Chiefs IF they use him the right way…
A RETURN MAN!!!
Chiefs’ return man is non-existant and if you remember correctly the first chance this kid had to return a kick he took it to the 50 yard line, and the 2nd chance he went to the 45! Give this kid a chance to return kicks, and his jersey will be one of the biggest new fads at Arrowhead!
I hope you're joking
eturn Stats
YEAR TEAM G PR YDS TD FC LNG KR YDS TD FC LNG
2006 KAN 10 0 0 0 0 0 7 169 0 0 50
2007 KAN 16 0 0 0 0 0 10 204 0 0 28
Career 26 0 0 0 0 0 17 373 0 0 50
HMMM…21.94 average yards per return… that is not that good. If he was the only return man on a team he would be on the 22nd best return team. Why not draft Heyward-Bey instead of keeping this guy?
Webb, Page, mumble grumble - Farnsworth
I listened to sports radio on 610 and 810 today. I think I heard over and over again how wonderful Cassel was to the media. Pay me $14 million and I’ll be wonderful to you as well. Yes, I know, some are paid a lot and still are jerks. I am guessing if Thigpin got more money, he’d shake their hands as well.
We’ll see how is after about game 4 how the relationship is with the media and Cassel. Who knows, they may win many games this year. I hope so, but…..
I did not hear anything about Webb or Page. It was pretty much about Cassel shaking their hands and talking to them. It’s a start I suppose. No one else wanted them like no other team wanted Farnsworth. So, it makes me wonder, obviously.
Yes, maybe Webb will be an okay return man? The others make me think of the Farnsworth comparison once again.
Hey, can we get Jerry Rice and Bad Moon out of retirement?
..because I just don’t get this.
We release Franklin (7 rec. 83 yds.), yet we sign Jeff Webb? 5 rec.’s for 46 yds. with an astounding 5 games played in 2008.
If he signed for $1Mil., that means each catch will earn him $200K if he duplicates his performance.
We’re hurting at WR.

agreed on the Webb/Franklin comment
I was thinking the same thing, or mostly. No team wanted these 3 guys, so KC signs them up. They released Franklin and he is snatched up. If nothing else, more overpaid practice squad guys to go with the other ones they signed on.
And Torry Holt just signed with the Jags....I'm totally bewildered by the recent WR moves.
