Also in for workouts over the weekend (they did not take part in the camp) were veteran NFL receiver Marty Booker and tight ends Sean Ryan and Tony Curtis. All have a connection to Haley, as he coached Booker with the Bears back in 2001-003 and Ryan and Curtis both came into the NFL through the Cowboys in 2004-05, when Haley was coaching there. Booker was with the Bears last year, Ryan with San Francisco and Curtis in Dallas.

Whoah!
I read Gretz this morning and I missed that. What was that info doing hiding down there at the bottom of his post.

Bringing in veteran Tight Ends
more fuel for the conspiracy fodder, except for the fact that they have 23 combined career receptions. Tony caught that in weeks 10, 11, and 12 last year.
i don’t think it means anything. Goes to Chris’ post earlier about signing people for “roster fodder” (assuming we sign then).

Well
given their lack of receptions I am assuming they are blocking tight ends. Brad Cottam is huge and will be a nice, tall target.
If Tony leaves I am guessing they will move Cottom into his spot.
Curtis is only 26. I don’t know anything about him. Is he any good?

Tony Curtis
Looks like Curtis is a career backup, never shown much, but may be a decent athlete

“09/22/08 – TE Tony Curtis filled in for injured fullback Deon Anderson against the Packers and had an impressive performance. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips called him the unsung hero of the game. “He blocked well from the fullback position,” Phillips said. “He caught the ball out of the backfield. He’s a very good target and made a real nice catch and got open several times coming out of the backfield. We put a lot more on him this game because he had to play the fullback position and be the lead blocker, and he was strong as the lead blocker. We made a lot of plays inside with him leading through there.”

We like that all these guys have special teams backgrounds
You think for once we could not start every team off at the 40?

that'd be nice!
I think there will be a huge improvement in special teams this year, with more of a focus on these guys that can and will contribute.

Booker and Curtis
Curtis is a terrific special teams player I see him as a nice addition. Witten is outstanding in Dallas and he was the # 2 until they drafted a guy last year. He can run a catch a bit. Booker is a solid pro. I’m cool wih both of them.

Curtis
I coached Tony Curtis in high school and have been following his career since then. He is going to give you guys a tough, physical, blocker who can double as a leaping jumping bean in the red zone. He was caught in a numbers game in Dallas which is unfortunate. He beat out their former 2nd round pick in Fasano and had the position, then Mr. Jones goes and drafts a physical beast (Bennett) in last year’s 2nd. Tony proved himself but took a backseat. So, now Tony is going to be a Chief I hear. Here’s a great interview question for Tony when he arrives and makes the team for you guys. Who was your idol when you were young, strutting around in your RED #88 jersey around the streets of Marina? It’s going to be fun rooting for Tony this year and watching him play with a future hall of famer in Gonzo. I can honestly say that when you guys come to Oakland this year, I just might grow some bigger cahones and wear Curtis’ jersey to the game.
