Morning Update (Draft Week Edition)
The face of desperation (via media.kansascity.com)
The Kansas City Chiefs finished up a successful voluntary mini-camp this past weekend. No big stories came out of that really. Scroll down for coverage. Now, the team turns its eyes to the NFL Draft on Saturday.
The Draft starts at 3 PM central time and I'll open up the first of many draft day threads probably early Saturday morning. Make sure you stop by and check out the activity.
Please check out the Round 2 schedule of the AP Mock Draft and make sure you're ready to pick when your turn comes. We're pumping out three picks a day in order to successfully complete the second round.
The. Draft. Is. Almost. Here. I can't wait! Make sure you vote in the poll too. I'm curious just how excited everyone else is about this weekend.
Kansas City Chiefs News
- We still have Chiefs fans referencing Carl Peterson's mythical 5-year plan. Get over it!
- Adam Teicher says the Chiefs don't necessarily have to look in the first round of the draft for a pass rusher.
- More Chiefs mini-camp photos are here.
- Up next on the schedule for the Chiefs - Rookie mini-camp from May 8-10 and the team's first mandatory mini-camp will happen on June 4-6.
Draft News
- The Times-Picayune is talking about those 3-4 defensive "hybrid" players.
- If I were QB Josh Freeman, I'd be a bit concerned about sitting in the green room until the middle of the second round.
Other NFL News
- The Steelers are reportedly interested in Bills' WR/KR Roscoe Parrish. AP commenter onthereg was walking about Parrish to the Chiefs just over a week ago.

Regarding the poll
My interest in the Super Bowl is up and down each year depending on the matchups, but the party of it is always something to look forward to.
The draft is always fun to watch, but it’s less of a party. And even though I watch it to the end each year, rounds 5-7 are always a little bit more boring than I remembered them being the previous year.

Too close to call is my point.
The Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year, but Conference championship weekend is usually better than the Super Bowl from a pure football standpoint anyway.

Depends on whose playing
There are certainly some years where I would rather watch the Draft than the Super Bowl (Tampa vs. Oakland in 2002 for one).

Again
‘I like real sports, not trying to be the best a predicting what people are going to do.’
That Tampa game summarized two of the Chiefs biggest missteps of the past 15 years.

Definately the superbowl.
Hopefully someday we will see the Chiefs play in one. Especially for those of us who weren’t around when they played in 1 and 4.
As for Freeman. That is a bit odd. Out of all the players that are top ten players that were left out, Maclin should be one of those guys. Jacksonville must really like this kid.

Nobody really watches the SB anyway
Too many distractions. Try watching 2 movies in a row in the middle of a party. Now if KC was in the game, different story…
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

Nothing compares
to actually attending a Super Bowl. I was lucky enough to ettend the Colts/Bears in Miami. The excitment level isn’t any higher than say…a big game at Arrowhead. It’s just different. You’ve got this unbelievable buffet of things to be interested in or excited about.
I wasn’t remotely prepared for things like the huge mob of protestor outside the stadium. As I entered the stadium, I was bombarded by crazy evangelicals telling me I was going to hell for worshiping football instead of the lord.
I got within a few feet of Fergie as I went through security. She was clearly pissed at the effect the rain was having on her hair. As you get to your seats you discover that every fan has a goodie bag strapped to the bottom. Most notable in mine were XBox games featuring the Burger King guy.
Cirque Du Soleil performed before the game….that’s one weird show. Billy Joel sings the anthem…awesome. Prince at halftime…unreal. Hester returns the opening kick for a TD. The banter between Colts and Bears fans was priceless.
If you ever get a chance to go…jump on it.

In the SB Nation mock, free man wasn't picked in the first two rounds...
ouch.

Actually we should never forget and never get over it as fans. We should always remember the 20 years and promises made and vocalize any dissatisfaction if we see the team stagnate.
If Pioli doesn’t make a run for the playoffs in the next 3 years and a run to the SB in the next 5, I’ll be the first to want him gone.
Enough with the front office procrastination of the past.

Key word "Mythical"
I think Chris is talking about how Bob Gretz said no one has ever presented evidence that he actually said that.
I could be wrong. I would love to see that evidence, actually.

Carl was asked how long he felt it would take the Chiefs to become successful?
He said within the next 5 years. The word “plan” was thrown in there later by writers. He never actually used the phrase “5 year plan”.
If he was smart, he would’ve said that he doesn’t have a timeframe…the political answer. But he threw a number out there and it stuck. I remember that succinctly.
Bob is still defending Carl because if Bob were to convey what is apparent to the fans…(that Carl was only about himself)..it would be his admission of being a lackey and Carl buffoon.

I would watch the draft
but only if the Chiefs were not in the SB. I guess there would be some people missing from the draft decisions though since they couldn’t be in two places at once. Hey, I think the Chiefs should draft a QB just to mess up the Broncos.
