Chiefs Chopping Block
Speculation this time of year tends to focus on who we can add to the team. I have a simple question: who doesn't need to be a chief this year?
I'll toss some names out to get this going:
Brodie Croyle- I don't know how good he actually is and none of us probably do. The one thing we can probably be certain of is that he has any future as a starter, its not in Kansas City. Get whatever you can out of him even if its the freed up salary cap space.
Tamba Hali- This may rile some of you but I haven't seen anything noteworthy of this guy. The only thing I think he knows about sacks is that you typically have a paper or plastic option. Aside from his minimal production, we might just have schemed him out of a job with our new 3-4. I find any talk of moving him to OLB as laughable.
Rudy Niswanger- Guy just gets dominated all over the line.
Half of out linebacking squad - most of these guys are practice squad fodder. Demorrio williams might be back up material as long as he can take down a QB more than a QB takes him down (see jay cutler vs demorrio williams)
and just for some controversy...
Dwane Bowe - For all his size and might he still hasn't gotten the whole "catching a football" thing down. I see him being a picth man on a butter commercial some day. If we put him him in a package deal to aquire a better player, I would not complain.

Got to disagree on Bowe
His stats aren’t overwhelming, but how many different QBs has he had to deal with in his first 2 seasons? This season will be the one that shows us if he is a number one or just a good number two receiver.
AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.
His stats arent overwhelming?
Are you freaking kidding me? He’s had two 1000 yard seasons since getting drafted, which is more times then Calvin Johnson. Dwayne Bowe is a beast. It would be a HORRIBLE, I repeat HORRIBLE decision to trade him
Didn't say anything about him being traded.
In fact it was just the opposite. No his stats aren’t overwhelming. If you look at his game by game stats they aren’t eye popping. He is good and is the best we have. I can tell by your name that you are a huge fan and I agree that he is good. His dropped passes issue is a problem however. He had this knock coming out of college. People want to say he is a top 10 receiver, which is nice, but he has yet to acquire top 10 stats. Top 20 I’ll buy.
He was:
18th in yards
Not in the top 41 in YPC
10th in catches
20th in yards per game
Longest? Jamaal Charles and Devard Darling were the only Chiefs in the top 41
TDs he was tied for 12th with eight other players
He isn’t even the top Chief in the league in any of his stats.
DBowe is good but has a long way to go to being an elite receiver. I never said he should be anywhere but the Chiefs. I stand by what I said that this year will define wether or not he is a number one or just a good number two.
AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.
I agree
on croyle but dbo? are you serious? the guys been in the league two years and has tons of potential!

I know you just added Bowe for the controversy, but statistically he is on track to be a not good but great wide receiver. Hopefully he can shore up his dropping problem from last year so his stats aren’t only good but have a positive impact in key moments.

hmm
well okay so you thew it in there in the end but OH MY GOD dwayne bowe is one of the BEST young players we have. probably the best so far. bow first 2 years 156 catches, 2017 yards, 12 touchdowns and 100 first downs. Larry fitgerald. everyones favorite flavor right now. 161 catches, 2189 yards, 18 td. 103 first downs. (thanks espn) pretty freaking close. the guy dropped a few passes but its the dropped onside against san diego that everyone remembers and the reason he gets any bad rap. i mean for a position that usually starts slow thats pretty amazing. especially when you consider the offense we have had and then compare that to AZ offense back then. not to mention TG had the drops his second year..
I see we were on the same track haha.

actually its not that drop that i remember
its the drop in the endzone against new england. but i agree he is probably the best young player on the team and has a ton of potential
Thats the drop that i remember too...

disagree about bowe he is top 10 in recieving cant really complain about that
the guy does work . Yes he dropped some key passes but he is 10 ten in the league and is really starting to make a splash . Keep debowe everyone else you have a good point I do love tamba but if he isnt in our future plans then get what you can for him.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
And with "Dwane Bowe" [sic]... credibility goes. out. window.
How about starting with RON EDWARDS next time?

I was looking forward to this post...
Until you said cut Hali, Bowe and Rudy. You’re crazy.
Hali and Bowe are starters… even if they have to find a position for Tamba… they will. And I bet he performs this year.
Bowe may be the best player on this team this year, or damn near.
Rudy is solid depth at the interior line positions… should be a backup this year
Croyle should be Cut, along with Ingle Martin. I see a 3rd QB in the Draft/UDFA (Chase Patton!)
LB to cut: Weston Dacus, Curtis Gatewood
WR to cut: Devard Darling, CJ Jones, Webb and maybe Kevin Robinson
OL to cut: Damion McIntosh (no need to pay him anymore), Harrison, Carnahan, DeLa Puente, Washington (never even heard of some of these guys)
S Oliver Celestin
Wow um
I was thinking more along the lines of Webb
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
Webb is still around because he's a contributor on Special Teams
Webb contributes on special teams, unlike Will Franklin. The dude was a 6th round pick and he’s never going to be more than a #4 receiver and special teams guy. I think a lot of people have it out for him because of the perceived Herm connection. Webb will be cut when they find someone better. Thats the problem, they haven’t.
Comparing opportunities to lack of production, I’d say Devard Darling has to be on the short list.
Kevin Robinson. I know this is only going to be his second season but he isn’t a receiver and showed absolutely nothing in kick returns last year.
Demorrio Williams. He is a small, fast 4-3 LB. I don’t see him fitting into the 3-4 at all. He’s not a pass rusher and he’s undersized as a run stopper.
agreed
I was jst making a statement. There are worst players on our team than Bowe, Croyle, Hali, and Niswanger
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
Hali had one bad year
Well, two years ago Julius Peppers had a 2.5 sack year. Sometimes it happens.
I don’t think Hali is ever going to be the star LDE Allen was, but he’s not as bad as some people think. I do, however, think he is a bad fit for the 3-4. I think we could get some value out of him in a trade.
Niswanger, I would love to see the Chiefs take advantage of the fantastic Center class this year and upgrade the position, but if it doesn’t happen, I don’t believe Niswanger is the weakest link on the offensive line.
Dwayne Bowe? You’re out of your skull. The guy is going to be a Pro Bowler. Whats hurting him more than anything (aside from a case of the drops last year which he’ll get over) is the QBs using Tony Gonzalez as a crutch. Once Tony G is gone, Bowes numbers will skyrocket.
How does that hurt?
With Haley in KC it should help his stats. Look at the Arizona receiving stats. They both were in the top 10 in more than one receiving category. Marshall and Royal were in the top 10 some stats as well last season. Most of your top receivers benefit from having other receiving options.
AFC West Champs in 2009? Mayyybee.
I wouldn't say it "hurts"
It makes the offense better as a whole…
But, it might take away from having one player with dominant stats.
I’d much rather have an offense with 3 guys putting up good but not great stats… but on a winning team…. than have 1 guy with dominant stats and everyone else suck.
I disagree with almost all of these:
Croyle: injury prone, but a great arm. Can play the game as a backup (in the least). I blame Herm for not getting him to bulk up a la Brady Quinn and work on improving his athleticism to help abate some of the injury issues.
Hali: if we can trade him I wouldn’t be devastated. But he was a 1st rnd pick only 3 yrs ago. “Chopping” him would not be a rational decision. I still think he can play though.
Niswanger: gets dominated at center. Unless we can improve the talent at all levels of this position, he is a serviceable backup guard.
LBs: Just because 5 of 9 look like starters and competent bakups doesn’t mean we dump the rest. Some of these guys are camp fodder and unless we improve this position at all levels we keep the rest.
I won’t even comment on the Bowe suggestion… borderline retart
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

NO ON BOWE
He had a sophmore slump but u have to remember his rookie year, he was a runner up for rookie of the year and now he has the best QB hes ever played with i see him having a breakout year
It would be a Cleveland/Cincinnatti-esque mistake to cut or trade Bowe
He’s one of the brightest young receivers in the league. I agree with the sentiment above that he just had a sophomore slump. Tony G had a bunch of dropped passes his 2nd year, although I’m having trouble digging up any stats to back that up. He mentioned it in an interview, in reference to Bowe’s case of the drops. But he turned out pretty good wouldn’t you say?
you are Crazy................NO........
We just got rid of Franklin, and i could see Jeff Webb, and Darling on the Block also, but you don’t cut from the top, you cut from the bottom.
When someone wanted controversy...
they said the right thing! I say no on packaging DBowe for the simple fact that his talent is increasing and we now have a QB that will need a WR like Bowe to throw to because, as great as Thiggy was last year, can’t use TG as a crutch anymore and we can now spread the field on offense and keep our second half progress going. Watching Cassel last year he threw the ball around pretty well to all the WR’s and TE’s he had to get the ball down the field. That tells me that he won’t be a “1 year wonder” like some people have said. (a.k.a. other fans) He is mobile to get where he wants to throw it and out of the “pocket of death” (that’s what I’m calling it for our offensive line until they shore up and we get our future starters) and tries to not get it to a krutch but to an available player down the field. DBowe WILL be that player. TG will ALSO be that player but not like he was last year.
There's no hope with dope...
