But now comes word from Scouts Inc.’s Todd McShay that the Seattle Seahawks have decided to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez with the No. 4 pick if he is still on the board to replace Matt Hasselbeck. That means teams like the New York Jets and Denver Broncos who had hopes of trading up and snagging Sanchez now will have to go all the way to the Chiefs at No. 3 to get him.

Assuming this is true....

It is all falling into place. I have high hopes for a very interesting chiefs draft day.

Mayock did call 3 QB's possibly in the top 10

(On nflnetwork last night or the night before. I’m too lazy to find the video.)

If Herm and Peterson were still here, we'd surely be drafting a kicker with the #3 overall. That would solve our kicking problems forever!!!

Great point

and even better Seinfeld reference.

Ten sacks in a season! For crying out loud that's what I used to average per game using DT in Tecmo Bowl!

+1

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

can you say pole position?

a trade down is damn near inevitable at this point

Just thinking out loud here

If Seattle truly wants Sanchez and they know we have offers from other teams for the #3, why not trade with them for their #4 and their 2nd round pick #37? It works out fairly close on the ol’ Draft Point Value Chart and we regain the 2nd round pick we gave to N.E.

by NJ_Chief on Apr 16, 2009 6:26 PM CDT reply actions

That's the only way

that Seatle can gaurantee they get their guy, I like the idea. Who would you take at #4 and with SEA 2nd round pick?

by Mostate44 on Apr 16, 2009 6:31 PM CDT up reply actions

We'll still have our options wide open

Curry or most likely one of the OT’s will still be there assuming Detroit goes with Stafford. We’re also still in a great spot to trade down again.

by NJ_Chief on Apr 16, 2009 6:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Me likey

Trade back to #4 so they get their guy, then trade the #4 to Philly for #21 and #28, as discussed earlier today.

by Keyser Sose on Apr 16, 2009 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

we might get a better trade from someone else

Seattle’s an option of course, but the threat of them picking up the guy these other teams want gives us more leverage to get the better deal.

Always nice to have options

It’s looking more and more like we’ll have quite a few come Aug. 25th.

by NJ_Chief on Apr 16, 2009 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Absolutely

From the looks of all of the interviews and workouts they’ve conducted, they’re definitely looking at all their options.

Go Chiefs!!!

Did they push back the draft? Jus’ kidding!

Good catch.....April 25th

I must have been thinking about my fantasy football draft.

by NJ_Chief on Apr 16, 2009 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions

I think this proves that Seattle want Curry

They leak their interest in Sanchez, hoping to entice someone to trade up with us, thereby guaranting that we won’t snag Curry (or possibly LT) and that it will be Sanchez chosen ahead of them, leaving them with either Curry of one of the LTs.

That or the GM in Seattle woke up with a horsehead in his bed and a pre-written press release authored by Don Pioli himself.

by Sudden on Apr 16, 2009 7:08 PM CDT reply actions

more like

Pioli’s got McShay’s grandma locked up in a basement somewhere and is threatening to let Haley go after her with a sock full of quarters if he doesn’t start some rumors that help him trade back.

They seemed to tip a hand that no one was looking at?

Feint, I would guess, they might like Sanchez, but maybe someone better.
They could Sanchez deeper in draft.

It doesn't make sense

to let it out if they really do want Sanchez. They could have had him at #4 but now someone may try to jump them. I agree with Sudden that its more likely they want Curry or Monroe.

Goosebumps...

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.

SEE I knew Sanchez was gonna be worth something....

A bargaining chip that just made our pick look priceless (well maybe a few picks would be okay)

I guess if SFO wants to take Sanchez they better move ahead of a division rival, or spend the next 10 years playing catch up to Seattle.

Think of the possibilities if this is true?

Pick up a draft choice (preferrably a 2nd) from Seattle to just slide back one slot. A second maybe asking too much, but if Denver and SF are also interested the value of our pick could be very interesting.
With the 4th pick we would have the option to trade it to Philly for their two #1’s so they could take the next best LT, or make the selection ourselves.

If we did trade the 4th with Philly we would be in position to take one of the BPA @ LB (Laurinaitis, Rey M., or Kruger) with one 1st round choice. Then take the BPA @ OL (center or tackle) with the other 1st round pick, and still be able to make a selection in the second round.

Dont’ wake me up! Let me dream a little bit more…….

Opinions are like A--holes, everyones got one.

Keep an eye on

Washington. I just watched an ESPN special about the draft and they talked about Washington being in love with Sanchez. They said that Dan Snyder is notorious for trading multiple picks or doing whatever it takes to get his guy.

by Mostate44 on Apr 16, 2009 10:02 PM CDT reply actions

that's the one right there

Washington is one of those teams you love to jip because they make it so easy. A trade with Washington would probably net us a first a second and maybe a fourth…

With all the news we've had today

I think it’s highly unlikely that the Chiefs will be picking in the #3 spot come next Saturday… good things brewing in arrowhead right now.

And we are the dreamers of dreams.

Damn the cynics, full speed ahead

(Now if we can just find a way to draft Crabtree…….)

Vegas Schmegas

I’m sittin in Vegas right now. I can be on the strip in 5 min. Now…if you need a tour guide while your here (I was JUSTa limo driver before the economy went south) and need someone to drink your beer and help you with all those hookers. Gime a ring. Haha.

I see a problem and an interesting idea.

Problem. What if Seattle trades us their 1st and 2nd rounders for our #3…they say they want sanchez…but take Curry!…thus giving us the dirty sanchez…so to speak.

Interesting idea. What if Seattle trades us their 1st and 2nd rounders for our #3…they take sanchez…we trade down to #4…then another team wants to trade with us for Crabtree…haha….we could get a double 2fer and may even still take curry.

by MasterBlaster7 on Apr 17, 2009 2:24 AM CDT reply actions

I say let's hope Seattle leaked the story to try and get Curry.

We could still be OK taking any number of players over Curry, and at the same time Sanchez would still be there for someone else wanting to swoop in and get him, ie. Washington, SF, Jax.

Going to be a great weekend.

Amen to that
