Thigpen in as throwing tailback/wildcat position?

Tyler Thigpen proved that he can throw and run last year.  As most of you undoubtedly remember, he was a running back in high school.

I couldn't find his 40 time, but a look at a highlight reel reveals how quick he can be.  We know that Chan Gailey is willing to try creative ideas.  What about occasionally sticking Thigpen in as the tailback?  The opposing defenses would have to prepare for a lot of different possibilities for the play: a Cassell throw, a Thigpen run, a Thigpen throw, etc.  Of course, you don't want to hurt your backup quarterback, but he seems like a tough guy.  And, if he got hurt with so few touches than it would prove that their has to be some type of curse on our quarterbacks.

Or, he can be lined up in the wildcat offense [thanks primetime!]...

What do you all think?

Definitely Interesting

Although I wouldn’t call it a throwing RB. I would put him in more of a wildcat position occasionally.

Thigpin's a player

and Gailey is a make it happen kind of coach. This year will be a hoot. Get ready for gadgets, shotgun’s, spreads, pistols, statue of liberties, reverses, the whole shebang! All sprinkled in between some mighty respectable downfield running behind a more than respectable offensive line.

Agreed on Gailey

He had some fun last year, though most of it seemed out of necessity. Hopefully he can have some fun this year too.

I'm just excited to see our WR's this season

Haley is a friggin genius.

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Hope

he makes Bowe lose his case of the drops

If Bowe lost his case of the drops...

…he would be the #1 WR in the NFL.

T-Back?

Thigpen is part Zback from the old Wing T offense, part HBack. could line up in slot or go in motion.
Granted it is a gimic but I bet we do see Thigpen and Cassel on the field at the same time a few times next year.

Anyone have a clip of his TD catch last year? One of my favorite plays from last year. Either Thigpen has a gear we have not seen much or he totally lulled the DB to sleep b/c he just pulled away from him.

Here is the game highlight with it:

From NFL.com

Barber bit on the near fumble by Bradley and Thigpen had set it up earlier in the game during a wildcat play where he faked running a route just like the one he did in that play.

Thank you.

Can’t build an offense around plays like that but … they are so fun to watch when they work.

Jesus h paste

that was painful to watch again

This is why I wanted Pat White...

…before we traded for Cassel. Can you imagine Chan being able to put in a 2 QB package? Normally, this would never happen because you have to compensate for the lack of QB athleticism, but if you had 2 that were both athletes…the wildcat/pistol possibilities would be endless!

The Tri-Cat has already been trademarked by DThomasReigns. :)

How does the Tri-cat look pre-snap?

Awesome and scary. :)

No does Thigpen lineup at Fullback or slot or WR?

Honestly, Cassel could flank with White at QB and Bones at RB or the snap.

The beauty of the wildcat and now Tri-Cat, is that you move the personnel to positions of mismatch and it varies nearly every time.

It's just a running joke. But it would still be awesome.

This looks like a Wishbone with 3 QB's

That would be scary if the Front Five lineman can hold with 3 rcvr or 2 rcvr w/TE

you don't have to win and you don't need to fight. Supertramp

I really haven't done the X's and O's yet.

But here was the genesis inspired by Sudden.

I am still waiting for Pioli to call before I actually start drawing something up on Madden.

That would be some wide-ass Center to hike to either of two shotgun QB's

I would LOVE to see this in a game...

…it doesn’t even have to be a NFL game.

If you have 3 guys that could all throw and run ball in the back feild I could see how anyone trying to rush the QB would have MAJOR problems picking which one to go after. LOL

Maybe we could work on the spread with G,C,G and Tri-Cat and 5 Rcvr set :)

I don't know about the wildcat but

They are going to throw all over the field, that is for certain.
