Chiefs Easter

This is a new way for us/me to pass the time of the offseason and it is an important and timely message to introduce a new tradition.

I know this is quickly becoming a secular society and we are all losing sight of what the actual Easter is about. But, in the spirit of both the occasion and the blog I wanted to tell you all about the new holiday that will be recognized by Chiefs fans. It is very similar to Easter in it's subject and observed duration (not necessarily actual duration)

As most of us understand, Easter is the Christian celebration of the conquering of sin through the miraculous death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Good Friday, celebrated today, Christians recognize the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Obviously the climax of the holiday is Easter Sunday when they recognize Jesus' resurrection and thus the conquerring of death and sin. Many believe that during the day in between Jesus actually was in a spiritual war and obviously was victorious. There was tragedy, battle and ultimately hope.

Now for the Chiefs part:

December 13 is the anniversary of the death of Lamar Hunt, owner and founder of the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the founding fathers of the AFL. Even two years later this past December I know many Chiefs fans remained emotional. December 13th is our Good Friday, our good friend Lamar was taken from us and we were all affected.

December 14, 2008 Chiefs Nation was lower than anyone could have imagined. We had won two games in the past full year and there seemed to be no hope for the believers of the Red and Gold. The hated and arguably evil San Diego Chargers came to town and the game was an absolute battle. The Chiefs held the advantage for much of the game and were ultimately defeated. This was certainly a case for mourning but it was also very much a case in which we had lost the battle but were about to win the war.

December 15, 2008 Headline: "Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson resigned today effective at the end of the season." The resurrection of a team in a single headline. This is the day that evil was defeated in Chiefs history. Hope rang out on the Chiefs message boards and blogs across the country. Chiefs fans had a reason to smile again. This obviously has led to the hiring of Sott Pioli and the turnaround of an organization. Most importantly I am assured that this will ultimately lead to victory in it's truest NFL form...Super Bowl.

Now obviously this cannot be celebrated for quite some time. I thought this, the Easter holiday, to be the perfect moment to draw on the parallels and introduce to you the new Chiefs holiday. Let me know what you think. If I am a heretic, and so on. Also, very open to naming possibilities for the new holiday.

Have a Happy (actual) Easter.
