And with the #27 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Indianpolis Colts Select...

                           Ohio St. LB James Laurinitis

craig in calgary with the pick...

To begin my pick, I think I better state a disclaimer that although I am a huge football fan, I am admittedly not a huge X’s and O’s kind of guy. I can’t say for sure how he would fit the Colts defensive scheme and I see they have a pretty decent MLB in Gary Bracket. However, when I see James Laurinaitis play and his presence on the field, I see a leader of this defense for the next dozen years.

Following the season, Laurinaitis was a projected middle-first round pick but following a disappointing combine which he posted a 4.82 time in the 40, he is projected to possibly fall out of the first round. I personally don’t see how a 40 time could affect a middle linebackers draft value, but then again, I’m not exactly a pro scout. For me, I’m looking at his 375 tackles, 9 interceptions and 13 sacks, and plugging him in the middle of my linebacker core and watching him be a perennial visitor to Hawaii or Miami or Calgary or wherever the probowl is played in the future. The 6'3", 240 pound Laurinaitis' combination of size, speed, strength, and instincts will make him an ideal fit for the Colts Defense who likes drafting and signing players of this pedigree.

To be honest I would have loved to go Wide Receiver in this position, but with 4 receivers off the board already in the AP mock draft, the next prospect would be a stretch and could be picked in the middle rounds. The Colts are in an ideal situation without any major glaring holes, so I will pick who I feel is the best player on the board, who ideally enough will help with the run defense which has been hit-or-miss the past several years.

Previous pick: CB Alphonso Smith

You think James Laurinaitis regrets not coming out last year? He was a top ten pick last year and now he's in danger of falling to the second round.

Don't agree with this one...

If Indy is going to reach for a player, and Laurinitis is a reach, I see them reaching for an interior lineman. Duke Robinson or Alex Mack.

I Can See It

He’s been highly productive his entire career and Indy needs linebackers. He’s a reach, but not a horrible one.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.

Did Laurinitis doodle on his jersey?

What’s up with the faded writing on his numbers?

I have trouble respecting ...

… any professional wrestler who stole his stage name from a Muppet.

“And, his opponent, weighing in at 345lbs. … Scooter!”

Shawn Michaels was good.

Marty Jannety not so much.

And, neither of those teams were ever as entertaining as the Hardy Boyz or the Rock and Mankind/Mick Foley).

whaaaaat marty jannety was sooo savy in the ring they had high flying action

dude they take out anyone shawn michael always found a way to win. they would take out the rock for sure. mick foley was good and could take a beating but shawn michaels was just like a fox in the ring to smart.

I really don't see why he's falling this far

and if we do trade, and he falls into late round 1/ round 2, I hope we draft him.

You can make a guy stronger, but it’s hard to make him smarter.

You can teach a guy schemes, but you can’t teach him football instinct.

I truly think that in 4 years Laurinitis will be the most solid LB to come out of this draft…yes, even over Curry.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

I voted yes because I think he fits what Indy looks for in LBs

Fast, athletic, sturdy.

But I agree with HIV that the better pick may be an interior lineman, Mack, Unger or Robinson

by RedNose on Apr 1, 2009 3:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Meh

they have a solid MLB in Gary Brackett, sometime in the middle of last season he was leading the NFL in tackles.. I’d say a Duke Robinson or William Beatty here, seeing as all the first round wide outs are off the board

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

Have you considered...

DT Ziggy Hood? We’re really liking him over at Stampede Blue. Some of us are even liking him over Peria Jerry.

oh I totally forgot

the Colts have been longing for a DT for a while… Yeah Ziggy Hood definitely
