My sense of all this is that it has nothing to do with Cutler returning calls or being belligerent, but rather the Broncos seeing a new player they’ve fallen in love with, i.e., Sanchez. This is just an educated guess on my part, but something usually happens to change a team’s position, and it normally happens when you find a solution to the problem. The Broncos have their eyes on someone, and I’m guessing it’s Sanchez since he has all the qualities McDaniels values in a quarterback.

Considering the history
Of junior QBs with one year starting, then that’s fine by me.

What would you say about Cassel then??
by Chris Thorman on Apr 1, 2009 9:55 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
True
But he’s proven he can do it in the NFL. He’s less of an unproven commodity.
It’s a risk…and it looks like it’s paid off (so far).
by Joel Thorman on Apr 1, 2009 9:57 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Big Difference
People refuse to accept it, but the NFL and College are just fundamentally different. Cassel is 26, he spent four years in college and three now in the league. Sanchez is 22 with one college season supported by arguably the best defense in college football last year.
We personally think Sanchez will succeed (total gut on that one) but it’s like comparing a blue chip stock (present market aside) with a powerball ticket.
by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 1, 2009 10:22 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
but he
finished college and had was it 3-4 good years behind the prime of a dynasty and its QB, and one full year of playing time, yes could still be a one year wonder….i guess but i like Cassels odds much more

As much as I enjoy this now
I am thinking that McDaniels is pretty good with QBs, and especially one he can shape/mold like Sanchez. I also think that his entire career and reputation are on the line and it will be a priority above all else for him to develop a QB equal or greater than Cutler.
home, of the....CHIEEEEEFS!

At the very least
The Broncos now have a much more difficult hill to climb.
by Chris Thorman on Apr 1, 2009 9:58 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
Cutler is about as good as it gets as far as young QBs go. I know he has some issues but talent like him doesn’t come around that often.
by Joel Thorman on Apr 1, 2009 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
His issues
are what I think makes him not an elite QB. I saw someone else say he could be good on a team with a decent defense where his INT’s won’t matter quite so much.
My crystal ball says Jay Cutler cries himself to sleep every night.

Pro Bowl and 4,500 yards passing by year 3
And he’s not on the path to being elite?
by Joel Thorman on Apr 1, 2009 10:19 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just look at him...

He screams “I’m an emo bitch.” I don’t care how much talent he has, or could have. His attitude destroys it all. I’d rather have this Jay Cutler:

My crystal ball says Jay Cutler cries himself to sleep every night.

Eh,
In my opinion he shouldn’t have made the pro-bowl last year b/c RIvers had a MUCH better year and the main reason he had so many passing yards is b/c they couldn’t keep a RB healthy… didn’t they go through 7 of them?
He is good, but I don’t think he is great.

Won't matter.
After this debacle, he’s already on the hot seat in Denver. If he doesn’t win immediately, you’re looking at a situation like what the Chiefs were looking at last year with Herm and Carl. The problem is, they’re going to have to win immediately with a rookie quarterback taken from one of the weakest quarterback draft classes in recent history.
Even if they love Sanchez (and get him) or manage to talk Detroit out of their #1 pick and get Stafford at the top of the draft, they’re going to struggle to put things together in the amount of time that the fans (and the ownership) are going to be willing to deal with McDaniels.
My prediction: McDaniels will be out and Denver will be looking for a new coach within two years. Then, they’ll get to start this whole process all over again — and all because they blew it when they fired Shanahan (whose smile muscles have to be crampin’ up on him right now).

You can not imagine how happy that I am glad that the Broncos hired McDaniels.
If the did not hire this guy, we probably would have. He appears not to have a clue. There are about 10 teams that have high quality QB’s and the others continue the ongoing search to find theirs. He arrives to the broncos with one of the most promising young QB’s in the game and he totally blows it. He appears to have Belicheck’s people skills (and in my book that is not a positive). Belicheck gets away with it because he wins, mcdaniels does not have his reputatuon and I think the players have probably already bailed on this guy. He should be the first coach ever to be hired and fired before the season.
by saskwatch on Apr 1, 2009 9:59 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
That would be hilarious
He should be the first coach ever to be hired and fired before the season.
Though I don’t think it’ll happen (nor do I think much of the blame goes on him).

When facts are considered, no.
But, that’s not the perception. The perception is that he blew it with Cutler. And, as the saying goes, ‘Perception is reality.’

In a way it doesn't matter. Now Cutler will have to prove that he can get along with a new coach and offensive co-ordinator.
Maybe it won’t be able to. It woundn’t surprise me.

no way he might have the swagger but the nfl it self will change that. Take a couple hits face a couple real deal d’s and he will be done. Dude bronco fans right now are hoping they get brady quinn. hahah . brady quinn we can all pretty much say he had a pretty good college career plenty of starts played in some big games. He had his chance and he got handled by the nfl. Sanchez has one season under his belt in college he is going to get soo handled by the nfl trust me no qb walks in the nfl and rips it. no one.

I think Pete was speaking out selfishly...
he wanted Sanchez back because he doesn’t have someone ready to step in and compete for a national title. I don’t think Sanchez is going to burst on the scene like Ryan did, but give him a year to develop and he’s going to be damn good.

Sanchez the guy is not ruthless. Ya his chances might have been better with Sanchez at the helm . But pete is a top gun at recruiting he has plenty of men he can throw in that will get the job done. There's that lame argument again...
Comparing any college team to any team in the nfl is apples to oranges. Practicing with Southern Cal’s D doesn’t really do anything to prepare him for what he’ll face in the nfl on a sunday.
You have to like the donkey’s getting this character over them having Cutler. Although they both seem to be a little caught up on themselves Cutler’s proven he can be a dominate force at times.
I personally think they are more likely to get Detroit’s #1 and pick Stafford.

If they were smart they would go get brady
from the browns they wouldent have to pay crazy money and they would get a qb that has run a similar system it would make total sense. But I still think brady sucks but would play better than stafford.

Trust me. I like Brady Quinn. I think he is a damn good QB.
But, I think Stafford has potential to be stellar in the very near future.
Quinn would definitely give them a better chance to win now.
To be honest, I think Cutler is waaaay overrated. He has put up some good numbers but, he throws a lot of picks. I would just as soon he stay in Denver as opposed to Quinn or Stafford for that matter.

Not buying the Sanchez thing
An established QB for as someone said a Jr? Denver is not stupid and they are veteran, those guys can’t wait for a QB to mature. And unless you get the top pick (and then why not Stafford?) it’s dicey. Stafford gone and KC could trade the 3rd to SF, Chi, TB who want a QB…
