It all starts with the lines, right?

So I am a fan of Aaron Curry...whether or not he is the "once-in-a-decade, can't miss prospect, lovechild of Junior Seau and Derrick Thomas, man among boys" some scouts say he is remains to be seen.  What I do know is that if our scouts, Haley, and Pioli think he is, I'll trust them.  If they think he isn't, so be it.

My thoughts for the #3 pick can be summed up in the title of this fanpost.

We all have talked about drafting a LT, and moving the lesser of the two (our #3 or Albert) to RT - great, right?  Bookend tackles for a decade...fantastic.

We have also all talked about  B.J. Raji being the guy we need to man the Nose Tackle position in our 3-4 defense...Oh, but if we switch to a 3-4, what do we do with Dorsey?  Can he play end?  Where do we find more LB's?  etc...

Here is my question for everyone.

Even if we stay in the 4-3 defense, doesn't it make sense to complement Dorsey with Raji?  Wouldn't he be the big guy occupying blockers while Dorsey could shoot into the backfield?

Rather than drafting a LT and moving Albert, who had an outstanding rookie year at LT, I think we would do well to give Dorsey a talented partner inside, and let them wreak havoc...

Thoughts?

I really don't like Raji that much.

I don’t think he’d be any better than Tank Tyler, who only has 1 year of starting experience. Tank has a lot of potential left… I say no to Raji.

While I do think Raji is a beast

I agree with you on Tank, and I think we need to protect our new QB.

Vae Victis!

a third and fourth round upgrade at center and right guard

would do a lot to protect Cassel.

Drafting Monroe and moving Albert to the Right Tackle still leaves us with retarts in the middle (with the exception of Waters)

Amazingly, towards the end of last season, Sackintosh was not the worst player on our o-line.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

+1

But I still think we should put Herb Taylor at RT.

I've been saying Raji is my darkhorse pick everywhere so

I hope you guys arent get tired of it. But if given the choice between Raji and a premier OT, its simply a toss up. The case for Raji- Raji blew up the Senior Bowl, he couldn’t be blocked and we saw this year what a dominant DT can do this year for a D with the chaos that Albert Haynesworth and company were causing down in Titan territory. Raji would be an excellent compliment to our young D line, so I think it would be an outstanding pick.

I saw Roy Miller TX blow up the THE Ohio State O-line in the Fiesta Bowl.

He would be a 5th rounder.
Ziigy Hood a 2nd rounder.
If we stay a predominate 4-3. Either would be a good rotation with Dorsey, Tyler.
Raji blew up an all-star line that maybe wasn’t that good TOGETHER.

Connerman is right

basically, we can’t go wrong.

And since we won’t be going QB with the #3, our chance of busting will be lower, regardless of whether we go OL, DL, LB, etc.

I’m a big fan of Tank too, and I would love it if he and Dorsey could man the middle for many years

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Raji might be a beast but I'm still pulling for Dorsey

Besides we have invested a lot of drafts picks the last few years (especially high rounders). I think the last thing we need is another first round defensive lineman. I’d rather take Monroe (or another OL)

Call me Pacman...cuz I MAKE IT RAIN!

Raji would complement Dorsey, not replace him

Hali, Dorsey, Raji, could be a very good d-line.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

edit Didn't want to give a 3-4 impression =)

“Hali, Dorsey, Raji, and insert name of RDE here”

I put insert name of RDE inside arrows…oops.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Shush.

Jclawd ive seen this exact same post from you twice on here now and to answer any further same posts you make we won’t be drating crabtree. Let the raiders continue to suck. However good he may be they still have an incompetent Qb, well make that incompetent team as a whole. (exception Asomugha whos a beast)

I'm not really a fan

of drafting Raji with the number 3 pick. I’ve said this a million times but I think with better coaching (and a better RDE) our d-line wouldn’t be so bad.

Hali, Dorsey, Tank, and >insert name of RDE here< would’nt be bad. Now if say we traded the #3 pick to the Eagles and got the 21st and 28th picks and if Raji fell to one of those spots I would have very little problems with that. I’ve heard he has motivational issues and he was suspended for not keeping his grades up. That to me says he’s lazy and somewhat not that smart. I say we draft Curry but if we trade down that’s fine. I’d love to see us trade down (getting more picks obviously) and still able to get Curry. But I’m not to keen on selecting Raji with the number 3 pick. Seems too risky to me.

Everyone overstates Albert's performance @ LT

Yes, he played tremendously well for a rookie LT. Outstanding? No. If you want outstanding, check out the Donk’s Ryan Clady. Albert got burned on a number of plays last year and while I don’t expect him to be a Pro-Bowler his rookie season, I at least expect people to grade him accurately. I believe he will be great, but he’s just not there….yet

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 9, 2009 4:50 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I was very impressed with Alberts play but...

I will agree that Clady was outstanding. I expect to see alot of improvement out of that position this year. He is still learning and we had a terrible coach.
KCS, do you think we should move him around and draft a new LT?

by Chiefsfan1970 on Mar 9, 2009 5:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I do

I think Albert is skilled and talented enough to possibly play 4 out of 5 positions on the offensive line. I think he’s a good LT with potentail to be great. Do I think there are better LT prospects in this years class? No question.

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 9, 2009 5:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would be okay with it

as long as it is a real upgrade. Otherwise, it will be easier to fill the RT spot later in the draft.
Center is biggest problem right now.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Mar 9, 2009 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do not see any overwhelming offensive lineman

I think we can produce with 3rd round pick, although if we could move up into 2nd rd, then better. We need Curry or someone that can a beast on defense to grow around. I say we get Barnes, get a 3rd round offensive lineman for this year, unless we can move up to 2nd rd and grab one there. I agree on Tank for now. We aren’t going to be able to fill all the holes with manbeasts this year (would be nice though)…so fill the holes with best opportunities and grab the beasts we can. Curry is a beast…one of the few real beasts I see in the draft.

+1 I like Curry

If I had my way, he would be our first round pick.
