Let's give this thing time to work.....

I know that a lot of my fellow fans are bemoaning the FA situation but, let's keep this in perspective.....free agents are generally the finishing touches for the most successful teams.  Herm got it right in not building exclusively through free agency....you need a strong core of developed players to be successful.  Cobbling together a team of cast-offs (in most cases) from other teams is a sure way to waste a season without getting any better...I would rather us spend/invest the money in/on two or three good FA signings and four or five speculative ones instead of loading up our team with big name/small contribution players who manage to sell jerseys but not win games......

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

I didnt want the biggest names...

Just some respectable ones. Now there are hardly any left. I wish Pioli would talk…give us his plan. He owes us that much…we have went through a lot of hard years lately. I know he says I will build a team not individual talent….well when and how does he plan on doing this. We are one of the few terrible teams that has had no action in free agency. I am just really worried…we have an unproven young coach and a new GM that has made one respectable transaction so far.

Go Chiefs!!

Dude seriously?

What’s the big hurry. We have tons of time and opportunity. We’re not going to fill every roster gap with a stud. We’re bound to get one or two studs and all we want surrounding them is an army of solid guys doing their jobs. I’m having such a hard time believing all of this despair. WTF?

Whats the big hurry?

Well lets see…IM TIRED OF LOSING!! If your not feeling like you want to get out of this rut we are in then screw off. If your not mad about losing then what kind of fan are you? Where are these solid guys and studs you talk about coming from?? I have no patience….we just had the worst season in Chiefs history and you are just so calm about it….sorry thats not me.

Go Chiefs!!

This is a losing mentality…..rushing your plan to have a shot at a big name player who was either cut loose or allowed to walk away from his previous team…is one of the surest ways to fail at this team building thing….look at the Cowboys (now) or Redskins (a few years back…Bruce Smith, Dieon Sanders etc….) how did big name FA signings help them?? The big names in the FA market had pretty much decided on where they were going before Free Agency started and dropping massive cash on the secondary FA market to pick up second tier and/or over the hill talent is foolish. We’ve still got almost 6 months before the season starts, I’m happy with Pioli building this thing on his terms and not getting caught up in the HYPE that is free agency…..fools rush in…….

You have a new GM

who was highly prized. You have a new head coach who was also highly prized. They’ve been in charge of the team for a couple of months at most, during the off-season no less, and you want them to hurry up? First, let me remind you that it’s the off-season. As such, there is no hurry up. Did you think we’d get our new GM and then get our new coach and go 16-0 the next day? Come on MG, a couple of months into the off-season after a massive change at the top of the organization is no cause for alarm. If you want me to screw off because I’m happy with the direction we’re headed, then right back at you. There’s no need to call my loyalty as a fan into question because I’m on-board with the program. I’m just saying, things are improving but it’s a long damn time between now and the season opener. You better find that patience or you’re gonna give yourself an ulcer. Be glad we’re not jumping in on a bunch of high priced (diva!) talent. It means that we have level heads up in the wheel-house. This is a good thing.

Sorry Buck'O

I just get fired up thinking about last season. Thats all. I Meant no harm. Its tough for all of us….even tougher if you have no patience(me). I am happy to have Pioli and Haley….its hard to change from a player/fan friendly coach who loves to talk and says all the right things to a hard nosed slient type. I will get used to it….in due time.

Go Chiefs!!

After you two reconsile.

Who are options at DC that are not signed yet?
And are we going to get Our team players via trade or post-draft FA’s?

by Steve_Chiefs on Mar 6, 2009 5:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think

we’re going to see some trades, but again, they’ll seem like plane vanilla transactions. Probably add some second day picks. I think we’ll do more in post-draft FA and we’ll keep some serious cap room available so we can do a few more things in June. Also, don’t be surprised if we start the year with cap room. We’ll see an improvement in the wins column and we may be in amazing shape to go into the following year (without a salary cap) and do some damage where most teams might not be able to. Slow and steady. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

ummmm yeah

there is NO WAY pioli goes through the entire cap space we have. even with an uncapped year next year. doesnt make team sense doesnt make business sense.

I know, none taken.

I know where you’re coming from. :) I’ve been preaching around here for everyone not to get hung up on big name guys because that’s not what the Chiefs signed up for when they brought Pioli in. You just have to have a little faith that what we’re getting will be WAY better. Seriously, you can take it to the bank, this team is gonna make a run straight out of hell and to the top. But it’s not gonna happen over night.

For anyone who’s hoping we do a Miami/Atlanta style turn around, don’t count on it. In fact, I’d put my shells on those guys taking a step back next year now that the newness has worn off. We’re doing this the right way.

These solid guys and studs

are already here. They are the talented, young guys that Herm did a great job drafting. Every aging vet, every flyer we pick up limit the possibilities of a Dorsey, Tyler, Carr, W. Franklin that we have here who will develop into an outstanding football player. Free agents are temporary solutions to a spot that is lacking an up and comer. Chill the eff out, man.

Herm did a good job drafting escept for.....

That fat ass NT Dorsey,,If he doesnt do anything this year put him as returner. Not really fat ass mor like under weight. Id rather have someone with some weight in there than Lionel Ritchie. Get a RE in the draft or FA and it will help out the rest of the line.Go and buy Roy Williams and put him at LB

Give the kid a chance

Dorsey had a solid rookie year. Line the guy up right with a year of experience under his belt and he’s gonna make you eat your words.

+1 on Dorsey

I’ve been hearing a lot of analyst’s saying that DT’s emerge in their sophomore season. Maybe it just takes a year to get up to speed and learn the tricks of the trade. Hopefully with the possible change of schemes and upgrade in personnel all of our young defenders will improve performance and be fully utilized.
