Hailey's sinking the ship

The Brian Waters incident has completely destroyed Pioli's ability to attract Free agents.  Haily needs to do something quick to right the ship.  It was a big mistake no matter who's fault.  Brian coming out and making the comments he made about arrogance and the Cardinals veterans dislike for Hailey, came at the worse possible time.

The Chiefs management style of  "sorry no comment", Just doesn't work.  Hailey and Pioli need a major public relations makeover.  I'm sure Hailey's not all that bad and to have a few Cardinals come out on his behalf would be a great place to start.  Also, a public statement from one or both of them (Haley, Pioli) , apologizing to Waters ( no matter who was right or wrong) would go a long way.  Admit that they made a mistake and from now on, opening their doors to Players who have issues or questions. Having Waters on board would be great.

It's probably too late for free agency but it's not too late to keep the ship from sinking.

Not so fast

I’m not sure that the lack of big name FA signings is because of the Haley/ Waters mess. The Chiefs brass came out and told us not to expect to be big players in the FA market. The reason we havn’t attracted such players as you would like is because we suck and we aren’t willing to shell out money to these guys. Thats just not how they operate.

As for Haley going public and apologizing, keep dreaming. He has nothing to apologize for and quite frankly Im getting rather tired of this debate about Haley and Waters so I’m done ranting about it now. :)

Mostly agree

and choirboy, your post will be taken more seriously if you use the edit feature and go back to correct the misspelling of Haley’s name so often.

The Chiefs were never going to go nuts in free agency and spend like drunken sailors.

The Chiefs are going to be very, very shrewd about players they sign and how they spend their money. Pioli isn’t Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones. And he’s been more successful than those 2 guys combined. Four Superbowl appearances this decade, three championships, one 16-0 team. Why are some people in a panic. The dude knows what he’s doing.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

To carry on your metaphor

the ship is still in dry dock, a new propeller and rudder has been brought in and will be fitted soon. But we still need to finish scrapping off the barnacles and repainting, let alone redo the ballroom floor. As it is, the new captain has barely seen the bridge let along played with any of those funny buttons.

Can’t wait to crack a bottle of champagne over the prow come august!

Blame my wife!

waters needs to suck it up

he is used to the “herm edwards” way of coaching, or lack there of. so when a coach comes in who is passionate and will actually tell you how it is and he doesnt get his way, then hes (waters) gonna be frustrated because he doesnt get his way. haley has nothing to apologize for. as far as FA, its not pioli’s style to go out and spend money on big name free agents that are either A) at the end legs of their career B) Demand way too much money or C) doesnt fit his system. dont be so quick to criticize pioli or haley until we see how the season goes, and what other moves are to be made.

You have a copter

MS allows you to drop water to put out fires from copter.
Copter wallpaper.? what the hell is that? Paratrooper help here!

Screw waters.

Let him come out to the working world and pull that shit in real life where you come home and bitch to your dog instead of making a media hay day out of it. When its all said and done he is making big money to perform at a high level and do what he is told. If he doesnt like it then go get a coavhing position.

Who's Hailey?

Is she hot?

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

by UCrawford on Mar 6, 2009 2:07 PM CST reply actions

DAMN IT I meant "coaching position"

Which the coaching position is the guy behind you

by kcoutlaw2 on Mar 6, 2009 2:10 PM CST reply actions

I meant Haley

  Hailey is pretty hot.

by whodachefs? on Mar 6, 2009 2:20 PM CST reply actions

The thing is

Parcells was well revered throughout the league and players would follow him wherever he’d go. As for Haley, I have yet to hear a single player go on record as to say they respect him and believe in him. Nobody say Larry Fitzgerald because that was all Super Bowl coverage/hype. If he meant any of it he wouldn’t be filling Waters ear with nonsense around the pool

On a related note, I heard B Dubs won the cannonball contest

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 6, 2009 2:44 PM CST reply actions

Larry Fitzgerald has been pretty vocal about Haley helping him develop as a player.

Why do you think that Fitzgerald was talking shit on Haley with Waters around the pool? Oh that’s right, you bought Whitlock’s story about the Waters incident. That’s the same Whitlock story in which Jason never openly named actual Cardinals players who were allegedly talking smack about Haley. Whitlock didn’t name anybody and he didn’t actually quote anybody. In court it’s called hearsay and it’s inadmissible as evidence. Of course this is Whitlock we’re talking about, so actual reporting is out of the question.

At some point Bill Parcells was an untested first time head coach. And he wasn’t puppy dogs and rainbows then either. Winning players will be attracted to competent coaches. Lazy players won’t want to play for somebody who’s a hardass.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

by Rev. Slappy on Mar 6, 2009 4:19 PM CST up reply actions

I guess I've missed

Fitzgerald’s thanks & praises for Todd Haley’s coaching. Any links?

Everyone’s quick to bash Whitlock. Say what you like, he makes valid points and does so quite often. We’ll see what Haley is made of in 09’ and for the record I don’t have high expectations for him

by KansasCityShuffle on Mar 6, 2009 4:28 PM CST up reply actions

The Whitlock article about Waters was badly reported and written.

His source was one unnamed person who was probably Waters. There were no direct quotes from anybody to back up any of the claims he was making. He insinuates quotes from other Cardinals players that he never provides. The idea that Fitzgerald was bad-mouthing Haley was a total invention — Whitlock says Cardinals players were critical of Haley at the Pro Bowl and then states some of their players who were there. He doesn’t have the balls (because he likely doesn’t have the quotes) to put actual words in actual mouths. Whitlock’s main objective is to write shit that is controversial to raise his own profile. Always has been and always will be. It’s all about him. Plus he’s fat.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

I would agree

with you guys but Waters doesn’t have a history like T.O. Or L.J.. They all make too much money and don’t care about anything but themselves. We shouldn’t be reading all of this crap much less responding to it. It just drives you crazy. I would have liked to see a few holes filled with young free agents though.

by choirboy on Mar 6, 2009 2:50 PM CST reply actions

Waters doesn't have a history like T.O. or L.J....

….but Whitlock does. T.O. and L.J. are some of the biggest cancers in the locker room, but Whitlock is the “cancer of KC sports media”.

by KCChiefs on Mar 6, 2009 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

Hold on a minute there choirboy

The fort knox approach does work, but KC fans aren’t used to it. Brian Waters took a calculated risk and tried to assert his will on the new coach and gm right when they were balls deep in a deal that brought us vrabel and cassell. He shouldn’t have done it. He should have been at home enjoying his time off because when OTA’s start, they’re gonna hurt. The Chiefs have been coddled by their last two coaches and what waters went through is a perfect wake-up call for everyone else. It’s a brand new day and it’s about damn time. When the three highest profile players on the team are the ones whining to the press, they’re the ones showing poor leadership to all of the young guys. Honestly, I’m glad Waters got slapped down and I would venture to guess that TG and LJ did to because they’ve also gone quiet.

We’re not going to build a team on big name free agents. We’re going to find some solid guys that fit the team concept and we’re going to build through the draft and an occasional trade. Your alternative is to go back to the way it used to be around here. No thanks. I’d much rather take my chances with a GM who was involved in 4 superbowl appearances and 3 championships in recent years along with a coach who just hired on after a superbowl appearance of his own any day. Relax and enjoy it already.

Vae Victis!

Buck'O, you said it better than I ever did.

I don’t get the panic by some people. Clark hired the best GM candidate available. Let the guy do his job. It’s going to take time to clean up the mess Carl and Herm left behind.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Yeah man!

More than likely a couple of years even. That’s OK by me if we’re a couple years away from being a threat to win it all year after year like the Patriots.

Vae Victis!

by Buck'O on Mar 6, 2009 5:23 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

I don’t think we are going to trade or core of TG/Waters/LJ now.
They are what is going to provide the stability for Cassel for a couple of years.
AND THE MUZZLE IS ON.

The muzzle is on. I like that.

I don’t think any of those guys will be traded either.

Yea....the Pioli/Belichick style has really stalled out in the past....

…either that or they won 3 Super Bowls with it..I cant remember…

Oh and the Free Agents either aren’t attracted by one of the best OC’s in the game last year or it could be the 2-14 team thing…not sure…
