Romeo Crennel Will Not be a Chiefs Coach in 2009
via blogs.bet.com
The agent for "free agent" defensive coordinator candidate and former head coach of the Cleveland Browns says he will not be a member of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff in 2009.
Agent Joe Linta said Crennel would rather focus on rehabilitating his hip after surgery.
"That is not going to happen at this time," said Linta of Crennel joining the Chiefs. "Coach is focusing on his rehabilitation and then he will entertain opportunities in both football and in the media. He is looking forward to what lies ahead."
Bill Williamson of ESPN reports that Linta "didn't rule out the possibility of Crennel speaking to the Chiefs about a consulting role or coaching role down the road."
I'm assuming down the road means after 2009.
While I wanted Romeo Crennel, I'm now ready to hire someone, anyone as defensive coordinator. Now that Crennel is out of the picture, I imagine that head coach Todd Haley will name Gary Gibbs or Clancy Pendergast the new defensive coordinator sometime soon. Like Friday. After 4PM.

“I imagine that head coach Todd Haley will name Gary Gibbs or Clancy Pendergast the new defensive coordinator sometime soon.” Is there a Plan C?

Don't put it past Pioli
To hire Crennel as a member of the staff for 3 months before anyone knows.

Seriously
I mean, Todd Haley made it seem like he wasnt down to coach the Chiefs.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

Plan C is ...
Bill Cowher!
(… you know, ‘cause his last name begins with a ’C’. Of course, so does ‘Crennel’.)

Although, what the hell? Why can’t he sit up in the booth and call plays? We also have plenty of cap space to spend on a motorized wheelchair or John Deere Gator for him.

He's also 61
And coming off a job where he had a multi-million dollar salary. He’s pretty much calling the shots at this point. And there will be offers next season as well.

So It's Gary Gibbs Or Clancy Pendergast
I don’t like either of them as DC…might as well bring back Greg Robinson.
Now I’m bummed so I’m going to go see the midnight showing of “Watchmen” to cheer myself up. RORSCHACH RULES!!!
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.

NBC Just Showed The Profile For The Comedian
I think they nailed the casting. Although Ozymandias looks like too much of a wuss.
For those who’ve never read the graphic novel, I highly recommend that you do so before watching the film. It’s one of the best pieces of literature put out in the 20th century and it’s head and shoulders above every other work in its genre as far as I’m concerned (and I’ve read a lot of it). Alan Moore (the writer) is a genius.

I Spent Time Overseas
Mainly helping to kill people, but I like to think of it as karma credit for the University of Life. Because a lot of those people were tremendous assholes. :)
I actually decided to move back to take a job here after getting out of the Army and after three years I remember why I left. Like I said, it’s a good place to live…just not for me. Thinking about moving out East. Or West. Or wherever.

By Way Of Full Disclosure
I didn’t actually kill any myself…I was just an intel guy who told others where to go and the few missions I went on myself were as uneventful as it gets. Mainly I tried to make sure the people I briefed knew where I was telling them to go so they didn’t light up the wrong target (which happened far too frequently, I’m sorry to say, because sometimes people are overenthusiastic idiots who don’t exercise sufficient caution when executing missions that require finesse).

Actually, I'm pleased.
My guess is that coaching is a high energy job and he just does not appear to be a high energy person. With his age, hip, last job and other factors (to be nice), I don’t think the Chief’s need him. Maybe we’ll have co-DC’s and Haley will keep himself right in the middle of it. It’ll work out fine.

Watchmen Got A Great Review From The KC Star
The critic there said it’s the best superhero movie ever. And from what I’ve read, Snyder apparently didn’t cut too much. It’ll be interesting to see how he crams it all into 2 hours 43 minutes.

DarkHorizons also gave it a great review
It’s gonna hard to replicate that great of a story onto the Big Screen, i’ve always thought a 6 episode HBO mini series would be kick ass for Watchmen but Snyder did it 2:43. So we’ll see also I guess I’m biased being that I hated the ultra polished look that 300 had.
When deep space exploration ramps up, it'll be the corporations that name everything, the IBM Stellar Sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks.
I'd be fine with 9-7 or 10-6 and competiting for the divsion title

Same Here
It’ll be interesting to see how they cram that all into 2:43. But apparently they didn’t cut that much. I wonder if they’ll have Rorschach’s interview with the prison psychologist in the film? That was a great segment of the book.

Mini-Series Seems Like It Would Be Better, Though
There’s just so much to cram in. I’m really curious to see what happens with the DVD though…apparently there’s a lot they’re adding to it (“Under the Hood” and “Tales of the Black Freighter” as extras)

This actually sucks really hard.
I truly wanted Crennel to be our DC. Now we are left with two failed DCs. One wins the job, the other hopefully regains his prowess in some position other than DC.
This really hurts. Our most glaring need will be fixed by mediocre FAs and a DC who has proven his ineptitude at the position.
Vrabel for DC!

But Crennel was the DC for 3 Super Bowl teams.
He is actually proficient in that role. The 2 on our staff are not.
I do not think Crennel is a HC, but he is a proven DC.

My view is kind of....
That our D last year was absolutely horrid and Arizona’s was middle and N.O. was bottom-ish too…Anything is better than what we had last year…And I think alot of the problems with the two alternatives in their past was personnel related, maybe…
I dont know enough about it to say really

The Cards D showed up in the playoffs, but they sucked during the season. If I had to choose one, I would choose Pendy.
Gibbs was just awful.

Well no matter what
we have an experienced LB coach whose sole job will be to focus on our biggest weakness last year, the linebackers. At this point I’d rather see Gibbs at LB with Pendergrast @ DC. And the Cardinals D came on like gang busters in the playoffs, I wanted Crennel as DC, but big picture we have improved our staff frrom last year significantly.

If we are doing the 3-4
the Pendergast will be the DC. If we are doing the 4-3 then it will be Gibbs.
by Vince D on Mar 6, 2009 12:44 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
With the acquisition of Vrabel it looks like we go at the very least hybrid until a full switch
to 3-4. I think Pendergrast will run the D and Vrabel will be on the field telling people where they need to be. Gibbs is a solid LB coach, even with Crennel out I still think our D improves immensely this year.

not how i interpretted it
i dotn think this automatically eleminates 09. it says “at this point” thats like the AD of a large school saying the coach is fine. yeah for now. i think in a month or two when the rehab on the hip is coming along better. then you might be able to get crennel. ive been saying this since day one on here about getting crennel. hip surgery takes a while. there was no way they were going to sign him and have him not be here. wait till rehab gets going. and i woudlnt be suprised if he is hired in a consulting position this year and DC next.

Life is crumbling around you.
Life is just crumbling around you Crennel is not coming to town and you feel as if your life is over. Maybe the best thing to do is go cold turkey for a while. Turn the TV and the computer off and speak to the rest of the family about, I don’t know, maybe the weather.

Hold your horses
The season hasn’t even started yet. Give Pioli a chance, give the Chiefs a chance! I’m sure someone there has a plan B other than “You play to win the game” or whatever. I can’t believe everyone is all excited and then we find out 1 person we wanted is not coming here and the entire season is a wash. A good defense should be like the mighty Hydra, writhing in anger at the pathetic meanderings of it’s opposition, losing one head and gaining two…. wait, this analogy is not going anywhere…..

Did we really want Haley????
Roc 27 touched on Haley not seeming he wanted to be aChief. When I saw his introduction and interview I got the same feeling. I know he was thrugh a lot with the Super Bowl and all but I didnt see any enthusiasm at all. When you here Rex Ryan in his intro. everyone wants to jump off the couch and start shadow boxxing. I know there are a couple of ways to go about taking care of bussiness and one way is talking crap and the other is to let the actions do your talking. But come on,,,shouldnt you show some sort of emotion then looking like you just got woke up and have to go rake your yard??? For as fiery as he is it was a little surprising.

Not only that but.....
How is it going to look if Pendergast doesnt get the job. If it were you would you be thinking,,“me and this guy just wentto the super bowl together and he picks Gibbs??? Well he must of thought my coaching sucks then,, a true slap in the face”. Thats how I would feel. Of course I think he was probably told the situation before he came over.
