Free agent safety and special teams ace Keith Davis will visit Kansas City Thursday.

Davis led the Cowboys with 20 special teams tackles last season and started eight games.
There are several other teams interested but visits haven't been finalized.

"He's open to just playing football," Davis' agent Curtis Stephens said. "He's always open to playing for the hometown [Cowboys] team."

The Cowboys can't afford to lose Davis. He's one of the toughest players on the team and he brings leadership in the locker room. The fact Kansas City wants to speak with him tells you everything right there.

Todd Haley, who was the passing game coordinator in Dallas for a few years, knows what Davis means to a special teams unit. Haley knows special teams is important to a teams success.

The comments from Cowboys fans

in that post are overwhelmingly in favor of wanting to keep Keith Davis.

We should sign him....

today he sounds like the player that would fit our system.

Jon McGraw

Type of player?

"I can only imagine what it is going to be like in that town if we are fortunate to build a winner. You win there, you can sense that it would be something really special." - Todd Haley

Jon McGraw replacement...

Weird how HC’s tend to bring in special teamers from former teams….ha

by woodman212 on Mar 5, 2009 8:22 AM CST reply actions

This could be good for Jon McGraw

If he is released, he may get promoted to Assistant Manager of the Grocery Store!

They need to keep McGraw

Are we really ready to dump a good backup and special team player even if we bring in another? Is our limit for good players on Special Teams equal 1? McGraw had 44 tackles, 1 Int, and 1 FF coming off the bench. By comparison, Morgan had 23 / 0 / 0.

Yes, if he's younger

Which Davis is not. So I don’t get this. Maybe they want both? Can’t hurt to have two good special teamers so long as you have the roster space.

This would be a SCORE...if we get him

THIS is what I have been talking about the last 2 years: A balance of veterans and rookies.
I’m liking the thinking here. Just a few more veterans and I think we’re good.

If he's coming here at Pioli's invitation

I predict he will have a contract today.

I just hope

we’re not getting played like SF. Then again, he’s not exactly Kurt Warner.

by JComp11 on Mar 5, 2009 8:36 AM CST reply actions

Not so sure he has the clout and resume Warner had

to be in a position to play anyone.

He's not.

He’s just an excellent special teams player that adds depth to the safety position. He’ll help you win a few games if your starter is injured but if you have to count on him to start long term then you’re in big trouble. He’s also a pure SS. Don’t leave him in coverage at all!!!

Regarding Keith "Bullet" Davis

He excels on Special Teams. That’s why Bill Parcells kept him around when The Tuna was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And Special Teams was important to Big Bill.

With Scott Pioli and Todd Haley being part of the Parcells tree, I anticipate similar attentiveness to detail in that area.

Now, as a safety, Davis merely adds depth. He’s been known for getting torched on several occasions, though not as bad as Roy Williams-31/38.

I could see your Chiefs signing him to a short term, vet minimum deal primarily to help solidify your Special Teams.

But that’s about it.

Hope that helped.

Good luck next season… except when you play my Cowboys, of course : )

Side Note: Dwayne Bowe and Tyler Thigpen really helped my fantasy team last year. Bowe’s a stud, who has excelled in his first two seasons (but I’m sure you fans are already fully aware of that)… and he’s only gonna get better in Haley’s offensive scheme.

All da best to you Chiefs Fans!!!!!!!

Thanks for the input

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Mar 5, 2009 9:14 AM CST up reply actions

He made $645,000 last year with Dallas

He is going to command more than that to leave, possibly up to $1 million.

Just not sure if we have that much money in the cap...

All the guys we have signed already. This could be tough for Pioli and Thum to find the cash. Maybe we could cut back on the cokes from a 32 oz to a 16 oz and charge the same price?

Afeter we get rid of LJ for "tree-fiddy" it'll open the cap space

30 Mil. to go.

Bullet....

I like that…

Though it goes to show you the lack of appreciation of history them Cowboys fans have that they would give the same nickname to a Special Teamer as a former Cowboy Hall of Fame reciever (“Bullet” Bob Hayes)

Jk Blue…haha

by woodman212 on Mar 5, 2009 9:31 AM CST up reply actions

Bullet...

LOL

I think we started calling him bullet because he has been shot TWICE!

He was shot once in 2003 outside a night club. Parcells cut him as an example to the rest of the team saying “Don’t get caught in the wrong place and the wrong time”. Parcells later re-signed him after making his point.

He was shot again two years later while driving down the highway.

He plays with a lot of heart and I hope Dallas doesn’t let him go.

Best of Luck next year.

p.s. Don’t sign T.O.

Hey, someone call Scott and just offer

a new bullet proof vest and a bullet proof car!

No, just have a starting gun ready when he seems to be

getting sluggish. Fire that puppy and he’ll take the opposition down trying to get out of there.
