It looks as if the 49ers are going to sign a veteran quarterback today, after all.
Quarterback Damon Huard, whom the Chiefs recently released, is close to signing a deal with the 49ers, according to multiple league sources.

J.T O'Sullivan
is apparently the greatest quarterback Mike Martz has ever worked with (according to Mike Martz) is it worth anything?
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
And a graduate of the University of California, Davis
which, as you might have guessed, is my proud alma mater.
Martz Isn't There Anymore
He got fired this offseason.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
So O'Sullivan's Probably Gone
He looked really good in preseason, though. :)

4) Uncle Rico
Uncle Rico: Back in ‘82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.
Kip: Are you serious?
Uncle Rico: I’m dead serious.

I hope there's an Office Max near San Frans facilities
so Damon can get his choice of his favorite clipboards

49ers are opening up a senior center..
first they only want to run the ball like caveman and now they have no qbs worth a damn. And their coach runs no system im would be scared if i was a 49er fan
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
I wish him well

I agree
He busted his ass and worked hard for the team. I hope everything goes well for him.
Call me Pacman...cuz I MAKE IT RAIN!
Yup
I’m glad he got himself another gig…now that the Cards have signed Warner, Huard may very well have a shot at a starting job for a year or two. Hopefully his new coach will have more brains about offense than Herm did.

He's not good enough to start
in the NFL. He proved that here. He’s a game manager at best. Too old and never had the arm in the first place. I don’t believe he is any better than Shaun Hill or a healthy Alex Smith

Kerry Collins
is a game manager, Trent Dilfer was, won himself a superbowl. Game managers can be effective starters in the NFL, just not on the 49ers. I agree that Shaun Hill is better and Alex Smith deserves another shot.

Good for Damon.
Hope he works out there. As long as he’s got a good line in front of him, I think he’s still a pretty solid QB. Better than many people in KC gave him credit for.
In 20 years...27 QB's played for the Chiefs
…and they couldn’t get ONE to take us to a SB. That’s a lot considering Trent played 5 years, Damon played a few, as well as Montana a couple.
Thanks Damon for the work, but you’re one of the 27. A statistic.
We desperately needed a change in management that valued the QB as a cornerstone to build an Offense. This org. will never be scared away from getting a QB that fits that description.

And?
If Cassel starts next year, he’ll be one of 28. Does that mean they’ll all suck unless they can win a Super Bowl? Because, frankly, I have a hard time putting either Trent Green or Joe Montana in the ‘tehy suck, they’re just a statistic’ category you seem to be laying out.
There is only ONE goal and that's the SB
I NEVER said “suck”, you just assumed incorrectly Jacin. Quit putting words in people’s mouth’s. Carl and Herm’s “Brodie decision” typifies the Herm supporters illogical conclusions.
We have become so “content” and lathargic when it comes to having a QBOTF that we have shyed away from the potential for the last 20 years. QBOTF was never a goal in that administration.
Kietz said it best, the attitude has always been that the QB position wassn’t all that important. Thankfully, that mindset is changing with the Pioli regime.
Acquiring Cassell is a step in the right direction and I’m not saying he’s the asnwer, but I bet if he doesn’t work out, that Pioli won’t pull the same attitude Carl did and shy away.. QB will ALWAYS be a major factor in the new Pioli regime considering it was the first big move he made.
TrINT was OK and Montana was passed his prime, ergo the 2 seasons for Joe and concussion’s by both.
