Chiefs Show Interest in a Center
It's about time we add a center to our Chiefs draft interest page.
The Kansas City Chiefs have shown interest in small school draft prospect Lawrence Lovell according to Aaron Wilson at Pro Football Talk. Lovell played left tackle for Stony Brook University. He's been projected as a guard or center in the NFL.
At 6'3" and nearly topping 300 pounds, his initial size is pleasing because he'll have to face the likes of Jamal Williams (6'3", 348 pounds), Tommy Kelly (6'6", 300 pounds) and likely a large nose tackle the Broncos will utilize.
Of course the New England Patriots are already interested and have conducted a private workout with him.
At first glance, Lovell appears to have the big and smart parts of the Scott Pioli's mantra "big, strong, fast and disciplined players". He's already finished undergrad and is working on a graduate degree now.
Finding a solution to the center position should be of utmost importance to the Chiefs at this point considering they'll now have two teams in the division running a 3-4 defense which means a nose tackle will be right in his face.

Great !!!
Good players are not necessary expensive. I trust they can evaluate him properly.

We won't get either
the best we could reasonably hope for is Wood (which still sounds like you’d have a hard-on).

I just happy...
… were taking hard looks at new starters for our O-line in the draft.
If all we do to upgrade our offensive line this offseason is the Goff acquisition and draft one guy, then this will be a long season for Cassel.

Interesting...
This guy I never heard of but the thing about centers is you can get a good one late plus it is a good year for centers. My pick would be Luigs hopefully in the third unless they go Curry then they may go tackle there.

C should be a late round draft pick
According to Sportsline’s rankings… you can get a top 10 rated Center as late as the 7th round or FA
I wouldn’t reach for one too soon, unless it’s an elite guy (Unger)
Dallas Reynolds is an example…projected round 7/ Undrafted

Question on height and centers
I thought the knock on Niswanger was he was too tall for a center and couldn’t get low enough to gain leverage on the heavier NT’s. The guys mentioned in this post are of similar height. Will it be a problem for them?

I don't think 6'3" is too tall
Matt Cassel is 6’4" so that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
