Denver and KC Are Being Built the Same Way?
Reading about Bobby Engram and Clark Haggans visiting KC made me think about what the Chiefs are doing in terms of free agency, which then led me to a bigger thought/question. Have you noticed that both Denver and KC seem to be going after aging veterans during free agency? It seems that both teams are beginning to resemble the NE Patriots who were never afraid to sign an aging player if they thought it would help them.
This is a bit of a different approach from Herm who wanted to get rid of the aging veterans and build mainly through the draft. From what I have seen or read so far, the Chiefs and Broncos are now willing to bring in more seasoned players for a year or two perhaps to help them establish a winning attitude and mentor younger players (I am sure that they also feel that these players can contribute on the field also).
At first this approach seemed no different to me than what Carl Peterson was trying to do with the previous Chiefs teams. However if indeed Pioli is modeling the Chiefs after NE, the draft will be very important and these veterans will serve as mentors and/or transition players until the younger players develop. The difference I see is that Pioli will try and build a dinasty where as Peterson was only thinking about the current year.
Another thing I see in common with both teams is that they both have a young QB in place that can potentially lead the team for years to come.
Now I know it makes sense for both of the teams to resemble each other since both McDaniels and Pioli came from the same winning organization. I just find it interesting that two division rivals will be built the same way, perhaps even fighting for the same kind of players.

"But what do I know, I'm AP's new assclown and I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
Yeah
Like I have said before….I would rather have the oldest team in the NFL and be a Super Bowl contender, than have the youngest and hope for the playoffs year in and year out. We are not here to hope for the playoffs…we are here for one ultimate goal, and that is to win the Super Bowl. I dont care how Pioli does it.
Have you ever wondered why...
New England’s defense is always called “old and slow”? It’s because they always have a bunch of veterans in the mix (although, ironically enough, we had a bunch of young guys playing last year and the media would STILL call them old and slow).
But yeah, you always want a good mix of veteran leadership with rookies.
ehhh
i sorta see the similaritys but kc isnt just signing a bunch of people. i mean considering our record there is a WHOLE lot more turnover in denver then there is here in KC. pioli and haley see something in the talent here they like?? behind due to the amount of time it took to get HC and everything in order or just not signing any player out there?? dont know but i like the fact denver looks like they are runing around like a headless chicken. well headless donkey anyway
