Chiefs WR Situation

Here is a list of our current WR on the roster.

Dwayne Bowe 6'2 221

Mark Bradley 62 200

Bobby Engram 5'10 192

Will Franklin 6'0 209

Devard Darling 6'1 215

Jeff Webb 6'2 211

Terrance Copper 6'0 207

CJ Jones 5'11 195

Ok, if you really look at this roster of WR's you will see that some probably should not be on there. Darling, Jones, Copper, and Webb. Darling and Webb have both completed 3yrs in the NFL and pretty much have nothing to show for. Copper has not even had a reception in 2yrs, and Jones is a journeyman with no NFL game experience.

Ok now that takes us to our top 4 guys. Dwayne Bowe is our main ace target. He has the size and strength to be a top WR force for years to come. He does have the tendency to drop some balls but after 2yrs in the NFL he has 156rec 2017yrds and 12td....pretty impressive. Next we have Mark Bradley. He is a second round pick out of Oklahoma. He is a real burner. He can really fly on the field. In only 8 games with us last season he had 30rec. I can see him being very productive if givin the opportunity in a full season. After our top two guys we have Bobby Engram. What can I say about this guy that hasnt already been said. One of the best slot receivers to play the game in his time. Not a real deep threat but he can catch the ball all over the place. Out of 645 career receptions 421 were for first down. That is a very nice stat. Too many times we had to turn the ball over after not converting on 3rd down last season. Mr. Engram can change that right away. Then comes the rookie Will Franklin. He did not get near enough playing time last season to really measure him up. I think he has a lot of promise to be productive much like Bradley. He has a nice skill set.

All in all we do have a nice set of recievers. We have the talent to start the season and have Cassel some good targets the throw to. I do believe we should pick up a WR in the draft. Someone with good speed or another possession receiver to learn under Engram. With our new HC coming from a WR coaching background I believe that will make a world of difference. He can mentor guys like Franklin and Bradley to become that much better. Its also nice to have a QB that can put the ball in the recievers hands and not on their helmets.

Chiefs WR talent C+

If we draft a WR in the 1st or 3rd that would go to a B+

Drafting a WR late or picking up another FA puts us at around B

Let me know what you think about this...
